seems not having shareholders isn't such a bad thing for customers. Fancy that ?

So you broke it.

I don't know, the man in the branch said the battery was most likely dead and best to order a new one, I've had it for years so that seemed to make sense

LOL - probably not if you put it in those terms but I am selling a flat and I am angry enough to refuse to deal with any potential buyer with a Nationwide mortgage!

This seems a little over the top Confused

Towelie · 20/05/2023 16:18

Bit weird when they've just made mass redundancies, I'm sure it'll make them look better despite the horrible way they've treated their staff though.

Ginmonkeyagain · 20/05/2023 17:11

I got it as I have a mortgage, two current accounts and two savings accounts with Nationwide.

Nice surprise but doesn't quite make up for the extra £120 per month I have been paying on my mortgage since February (thanks Liz Truss!)

Not really - they didn’t make the redundancies because they couldn’t afford the people.

Bank branches are closing because they aren’t used much, not because banks can’t afford to keep a large high street footprint.

Least than half of the redundancies are at branches, most are at head office. Sure redundancies happen, but what dreadful (and purposeful) timing.

I saw it 2 days ago. I have 3 current accounts and 2 savings with them

shame its not £100 per account!

Crochetpenguin · 13/06/2023 07:57

Got my £100 in this morning.

AnchorWHAT · 13/06/2023 08:30

You had to have £100 or more in the account to qualify, we had £94 😟

ksjsb · 13/06/2023 08:37

Mine has gone in this morning, need to check if DH has.

Dreamstate · 13/06/2023 09:02

Yay I received mine, been with Nationwide since uni days so over 20yrs now and never had an issue banking with them. Took out my mortgage with them too and their customer service at least for me has always been good.

Soupsetscared · 13/06/2023 09:09

Mine and DHs has gone in this morning

Fiftyisthenewsixty · 13/06/2023 10:30

My ds18 had a child trust account that he hasn't cashed in yet. Does anyone know if he'll get it?

You need 2 products to qualify

Stepbystep100 · 13/06/2023 12:38

Which is the £100 balance account?

My Dad inherited Mum's NW accounts last year and moved most into a savings account bond but only left £7 in the current account.

Will he qualify?

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/06/2023 13:57

You have to have at last two Nationwdie products - either a qualfying savings account and a qualifying current account OR a mortgage and a qualifying current account.

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/06/2023 13:58

Bascially it is for people who are long term, active customers who use their accounts regularly.

Æthelred · 13/06/2023 14:12

I missed out by the narrowest of margins but I was able to get £175 switching to First Direct and I will also cost Nationwide a few hundred pounds by escalating my complaint to the FCA. I'm now an ex-member of the society and I will boycott it in future - to the extent of even refusing to sell my flat to someone with an offer of a Nationwide mortgage.

Probably not. I have a current account and didn’t as I use it mainly to move money around savings and withdraw from savings. You had to have 2 deposits of £500 or over into current account for 2 months, January to March from outside Nationwide. My savings qualified but not my current account.

Stepbystep100 · 13/06/2023 14:52

Sad. Given my parents investments and accounts with them over eons.

I can see why people might move.

That's hilariously petty! I doubt the FCA will be interested but you do you.

HelebethH · 13/06/2023 15:07

Must admit I feel a bit miffed. Saved with them regularly for many years yet entitled to zilch, whilst they have had the use of my money. Oh well. It's the way the cookie crumbles I suppose

And I think that is a fair way to reward members

I don’t know I’ve had an account with them for 46 years and mortgages over 40 years. Finished paying my last mortgage last year, so only one account now which means I’m not getting it.
Feeling a bit miffed actually.

Lol. So if you’re 3 months into conveyancing and your buyer decides to switch to nationwide as their first mortgage offer falls through, you’ll pull out the sale? Sure you will. Good luck, it’s hard enough to sell flats. Took us 17 weeks to get our sale and purchase through and I would have accepted a mortgage with Satan himself by the end of it
