Wedding invite advice

Hello

I'm thinking of including some form of cheeky poem in my 'save the date' card, but not sure if it is a bit naff...

Something like

Pineapple are yellow
Sometimes they are pink

Etc

Eh???

ComtesseDeSpair · 18/05/2023 23:01

Advice from somebody in the midst of this process: make everything about your save the dates and invitations as simple, clear and comprehensive as possible. Don’t underestimate the ability of even your cleverest and most astute friends to somehow misinterpret a crucial detail even if you’ve spelled it out plain and bare, let alone tried to come up with some cute phrase or jokey tone around it.

Also I don’t think Keats will be worrying quite yet.

PhilomenaFunk · 18/05/2023 23:06

Pineapples are yellow
Sometimes they are pink
Save the date for my wedding
Or we'll think you stink

This poem is shit,
The next will be worse,
Begging you for money,
With an manipulative verse.

Huh? Where did I say I was asking for money?

I'd make it clear and try to get provisional numbers.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 19/05/2023 15:12

You're going to have at least 1 wedding guest dressed as a pink pineapple.
Don't bother with funny verses.

ItsNotWhatItsNot · 19/05/2023 15:20

Never underestimate how stupid people are. Do you fancy getting several phone calls asking you about the weird pineapple card? Asking why they’re not invited to the wedding-if they don’t understand a save the date, asking how to rsvp? Spell the facts out clearly. I don’t find poems like that funny, just a bit cringey and awkward, but would barely pay it a passing glance. All I’d need to know is: date, where?

HermioneWeasley · 19/05/2023 15:21

Why on Earth wouldn’t you just be clear?

Lochjeda · 19/05/2023 15:22

Why though?

MyCupIsFull · 19/05/2023 15:23

Why do you want to do that ?

DappledThings · 19/05/2023 15:27

Is the poem meant to convey some information? What have pineapples got to do with anything? I don't get it.

Rainbowshine · 19/05/2023 15:29

Leave the poetry to Brian Bilston.

Simple and clear information is all you need on a Save the Date.

OooYoureHard · 19/05/2023 15:34

See you on our special day
Just rock up in your flats
We haven't got a wedding list
Cos we're not cheeky twats 👌

Totally agree with this, from someone who recently got married. Keep it as simple and factually as possible. For a save the date, it is literally the date. I think we might have put the town it would be in as well.

rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 15:47

Thanks for the feedback

Tellmeimcrazy · 19/05/2023 15:54

No. Don't do it

CreamTeaThievery · 19/05/2023 16:01

I don't get it though, whats the rest of the poem? Is your wedding pineapple themed?

Rightnowstraightaway · 19/05/2023 16:03

My opinion is that you don't need official Save the Dates. Just text/email people the date.

But otherwise, I have never seen a wedding poem that isn't really cringey.

I would love Brian Bilston to do a cringe wedding poem! 😂

What is the point of the poem?

Is it supposed to convey some information about the wedding arrangements or is it just there to confuse people?

rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 16:05

@CreamTeaThievery maybe the wedding is in Hawaii?

OP posts:
DappledThings · 19/05/2023 16:05

What makes it "cheeky"? Are the pink pineapples going to turn out to be something rude? I need to know now.

CreamTeaThievery · 19/05/2023 16:11

Oh - I think in that case you should be really clear - that's going to be expensive for the guests and a cryptic pineapple poem might not make them realise what they are committing to.

rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 16:12

Just to be clear, the poem is not the only information that will
Be on the card

OP posts:
Bluevelvetsofa · 19/05/2023 16:14

Tell them when it will be
Tell them where it will be if you know, or at least the location

That’s all you need.

reluctantbrit · 19/05/2023 16:20

No poem.
Clear info, date and location

And: only send it to people you will definitely invite. If that's less than 10, save the stress and send a text.
