Wedding invite advice

Hello

I'm thinking of including some form of cheeky poem in my 'save the date' card, but not sure if it is a bit naff...

Something like

Pineapple are yellow
Sometimes they are pink

Etc

OP posts:
CabernetSauvignon · 19/05/2023 16:27

Satisfy my curiosity, how does the poem continue?

Tashface · 19/05/2023 16:31

Pineapple are yellow
Sometimes they are pink
Come and watch us tie the knot
And have yourselves a drink

@CreamTeaThievery maybe the wedding is in Hawaii?

Advice remains: be clear and straightforward.

And if your wedding is in Hawaii then be really really clear in your save the dates that you acknowledge this will be a totally unaffordable trip for some of your guests, that you completely understand if they have to decline, and that you love them and don’t want to put them under any pressure to attend if it’s too difficult. I speak here as somebody who is also having an abroad wedding. Even though we’re actually paying for all our guests’ transfers, accommodation, meals and booze for the whole long weekend trip, we still acknowledged that it would involve guests taking annual leave and finding childcare and that we weren’t going to be at all upset if they had to decline as a result.

I too want to know what the rest of the poem is???

OP- Why do YOU think it would be cheeky? Because its incredibly cheezy? Rude? Shows your wacky/comedic personality? 🙄

The fact you even need to ask whether its naff is surely a clue that is 100% is!

rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 16:36

@CC4712 interestingly, no one has said it's naff. They've advised against it for different reasons

OP posts:
starfishmummy · 19/05/2023 16:47

How will it give you an idea of the numbers? If you want that just send an invitation.

What reasons?

rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 17:03

@Tashface have you read the thread? Clarity appears to be the main objection

OP posts:
gelatogina · 19/05/2023 17:06

Eh? Pineapple what?

I do think the fact that everything wedding related with a poem is naff and overdone.

poems about the cake, poems requesting money, poems with the blankets outside, poems with the flip flops. Not an original idea in sight it’s all so 🙄

Tashface · 19/05/2023 17:21

@rockingthekasbah - I've read all of your posts and I definitely cannot see that you have stated the reasons why people have advised against it.

rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 17:23

@Tashface you don't read that people has suggested that it isn't good for the sake of clarity?

OP posts:
Irritateandunreasonable · 19/05/2023 17:24

yeah it’s awful

Oh, I neglected to clarify that then. It is 100% naff.

ItsNotWhatItsNot · 19/05/2023 17:39

@Tashface obviously OP means the reasons listed in the various replies on the thread.

No one can tell if it’s naff from the two nonsense lines used as example.

rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 16:12

Just to be clear, the poem is not the only information that will
Be on the card

But what information is supposed to be in the poem?

Or was the pineapple thing an example and not the actual poem?

rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 18:03

@MargotBamborough no information will be in the poem. It will
Be a fold out card and that will be on the outside cover. Information would be inside the card

OP posts:
TeenDivided · 19/05/2023 18:03

Is this wedding invite as per title, or save the date as per your OP?

In my view 'Save The Dates' should only go to core guests that you would be very upset to find out that they can't come.
And certainly not to anyone who may get cut for numbers or relegated to evening only.

Awrite · 19/05/2023 18:03

Normally 'cheeky poem' = asking for money.

Do you just mean funny/humorous?

TeenDivided · 19/05/2023 18:04

And I am completely confused re the poem side.

rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 18:18

@Awrite no one I know would associate cheeky with asking for money

OP posts:
Awrite · 19/05/2023 18:27

@rockingthekasbah - context is everything.

MargotBamborough · 19/05/2023 20:19

Ok. Is that the actual poem or will the actual poem say something different?

If so, what is the actual poem?

rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 20:28

@MargotBamborough I actually have no idea yet what the poem would be. I added a small example that probably bears no reference to what I actually have in mind

OP posts:
rockingthekasbah · 19/05/2023 20:31

@Awrite I agree that contact is everything - but if it's not in your frame of reference...

Ok, well if it's just a short poem that you think is cute (rather than one containing important information or asking for money) then in principle I think it's OK but we would need to see the actual poem to tell you what we think!
