Just that...how many nights? 1, 2, 3?

2 nights - Friday and Saturday

TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/05/2023 08:15

2 nights.

BadNomad · 18/05/2023 08:17

I would agree with it being 2 nights. But I'm guessing the wording says something like "2-day break" which would mean Saturday and Sunday DAYS, but only one night.

Fandabedodgy · 18/05/2023 08:18

2 nights Fri + Sat night

2 nights is a weekend away, usually Friday and Saturday. 1 is an overnight, 3 nights is a long weekend.

This.

DrHousecuredme · 18/05/2023 08:20

If given as a prize I would assume 1 (Saturday) then anything more than that would be a bonus.

kittensinthekitchen · 18/05/2023 08:24

Min. 2 nights is a weekend stay.

1 night - overnight stay
2 nights - weekend stay
3 nights - long weekend stay

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 18/05/2023 08:25

The Ts & Cs of the competition should stipulate exactly what the prize is.

notsinging · 18/05/2023 08:40

Two nights - Friday night and Saturday night. I would expect to be required to check out on Sunday morning.

FANCHEA · 18/05/2023 09:00

I won a weekend away once! 3 nights.

EggInANest · 18/05/2023 09:02

Fri and Sat nights.

With specified conditions for a Bank Hol weekend.

PositiveLife · 18/05/2023 09:25

In general I'd say 2 nights (Fri and Sat). I'd possibly expect 3 if it was, for example, a holiday park that usually only offers 3 night/4 night/7 night breaks as I'd see 3 as the option that covers a weekend.

That said, I expect some places will try to get away with 1 night.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 18/05/2023 09:30

The weekend is literally Friday to Sunday so 2 nights. A weekend is not going somewhere Saturday morning and coming back Sunday that is just an overnight stay.

foulksmills · 18/05/2023 09:42

Well, look, a weekend is traditionally understood to be two days - Saturday and Sunday so I can see how one could argue that a 'weekend away' at a hotel could be 'come Saturday, stay Saturday night, leave Sunday' (= 1 night). But, as has been pointed out, check in time is usually quite late - 3pm perhaps 2pm and I have even seen some places with a check in time of 4pm. That certainly doesn't encompass the whole day on Saturday. And checking out at midday (or earlier) isn't a whole day either.

So to get two 'whole day's you would need to check in on Friday, stay Friday night, then you get all of Saturday, stay Saturday night, you would have to stay the whole day on Sunday, and Sunday night, and check out on Monday in order to get two whole days. But that's more than two whole days. That's ~68 hours. So if instead you check in on Friday and out on Sunday that would be 44 hours. Which is a lot closer to the 'two whole days' that 48 hours would be.

Stand firm OP!! Demand your 48 hours!! Or, at least 44 hours, and that's you being generous. Good luck.

Movinghouseatlast · 18/05/2023 09:44

Two nights minimum, either Fridsy- Sunday or Saturday-Monday. It could be 3 nights, Friday- Monday. I own holiday cottages and lots of other owners sell weekend breaks which end on a Monday morning.

ODFOx · 18/05/2023 10:00

It depends on what the prize includes I think.
If it is entry passes to an attraction or event for two days then a single night in a hotel is fine. If it is just the hotel then 2 nights otherwise, as a pp said, it is just 4pm to 11am which isn't a weekend.

Cattenberg · 18/05/2023 10:02

Fantina · 17/05/2023 23:48

Two nights, Fri - Sunday. Otherwise it should be described as a night away.

This

octopusrus · 18/05/2023 10:24

It was a prize we bid on at an auction, so we've paid for it rather than been given it.

So yes we are feeling rather ripped off and it's completely embarrassing. I've complained but not sure what happens next as we already paid before we were given the details.

What was the wording? Weekend break or weekend away?

meatbaseddessert · 18/05/2023 10:56

And what's included? Flights accommodation? Food? Experiences?

purplecorkheart · 18/05/2023 11:00

I would consider it two nights but in my experience of Charity Auctions it is always better to check before bidding.

Kyse23 · 18/05/2023 11:04

I would definitely say 2 days because
Night away - 1
Weekend - 2
Long weekend - 3

You can't say it's a weekend away when it's a one night stay surely

LaLaLouella · 18/05/2023 11:14

Weekend - I would absolutely expect 2 nights otherwise you've only got from 3 pm one day to 10am the next which is not enough time to do anything much...

user1471462634 · 18/05/2023 11:14

So they've auctioned a 'weekend away', what exactly have they come back with now you've paid OP?
