How long would you say a 'weekend away' was as a prize?

Just that...how many nights? 1, 2, 3?

OP posts:

A night away = 1
A weekend = Friday & Saturday nights
A long weekend = at least three nights. Either a Thursday or Sunday, possibly both.

Lulu1919 · 18/05/2023 06:28

Two mights
Friday / Saturday

peachicecream · 18/05/2023 06:32

2 or 3 nights.

1 night isn't a weekend away as you spent most of it travelling and settling in. It's an overnight stay.

SPSN · 18/05/2023 06:48

Two nights

ZenNudist · 18/05/2023 06:50

One night, Saturday

MolkosTeenageAngst · 18/05/2023 07:02

Depends on check-in and out times. I would expect to be acme to spend most of Saturday and Sunday morning away. So either Friday and Saturday night or an early check-in on Saturday (before midday) and then the one night.

PuppyMonkey · 18/05/2023 07:05

The posters saying one night have to only have one day off at the weekend from now on.Grin

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/05/2023 07:09

One night = one night. Two nights = weekend. Three nights = long weekend. IMO

CrystalCoco · 18/05/2023 07:12

If it's a prize that you're organising I'd say something like:

"win a night away at fabulous xyz"

or "win two nights stay at ....."

make it specific.

TenoringBehind · 18/05/2023 07:15

Two nights. - Friday and Saturday

Bunnycat101 · 18/05/2023 07:15

I’d think a weekend away could be one night, possibly two. I certainly wouldn’t kick off if I win a ‘weekend away’ and it was one night. Like another poster I’d imagine travel on the Saturday travel back the Sunday . Obviously others feel different which is why you have to be very careful over wording/include small print for this sort of thing.

If it was as a prize (rather than say a gift) honestly I would only expect one night, but then I am a cynic at heart

MuggleMe · 18/05/2023 07:32

I would never expect this to be marketed without the number of nights stated prominently on any blurb.

Whichwhatnow · 18/05/2023 07:35

Weekend away would be two nights to me, so you have at least one full day at the destination. Otherwise depending on the travel situation and hotel check in times you could just end up with two half days to explore/sightsee/eat out etc which (while still nice!) is not really a proper weekend away.

I would still happily take the one night prize (obviously!) but think it should be framed as just that - a night away.

NoSquirrels · 18/05/2023 07:38

Friday night to Sunday, i.e. 2 nights, 2 days.

TheKobayashiMaru · 18/05/2023 07:50

2 nights, Friday and Saturday.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 18/05/2023 07:54

For a prize, I'd assume one night but probably with stuff included. E.g, a spa hotel, I'd expect there to be spa access, maybe a treatment, dinner. So, not just a night in a hotel.

YeahYouDo · 18/05/2023 07:58

1 or 2 nights.

Same for me.

Jellybebe · 18/05/2023 08:01

Def 2 nights otherwise it would be described as a night away.

MyDogStoodOnABee · 18/05/2023 08:05

Clue is in the name - week end = Friday and Saturday.

Qwerty111 · 18/05/2023 08:08

I agree with the majority of replies 2 nights, arrive Friday, leave on Sunday.

If it’s 1 night, you travel, check in at 2 or 3pm, have a couple of hours until shops, cafes and historic places close, then dinner, overnight and in the morning you have to leave before 10 or 11. That’s not a weekend!

quietheart · 18/05/2023 08:10

@thespy explained it, any doubt and use her explanation.

However if you have won it and they say it’s actually only overnight I don’t suppose there’s a lot you can do.

HolyFuckerRooney · 18/05/2023 08:12

2 nights
Friday night and Saturday night

Wheelz46 · 18/05/2023 08:12

If I was entering a prize draw for a weekend away and number of nights was not stipulated then it's always going to open to interpretation so could be either classed as 1 night or 2 nights. Personally I would be happy either way.

However, as to not cause confusion, the prize giver would have been best stipulating how many days/nights it was covering. Similarly, the person entering the prize draw should have asked if this wasn't stipulated rather than assume, especially if they only entered it assuming they were getting a set number of nights as part of the prize.
