I'm going through some shit and need to cry but can't so am resorting to watching whatever it takes to kick it off.

I'm watching 'Its a sin' at the moment, episode 3...

I don't want to be asked what's wrong just ideas of what to watch. Thank you.

I am feeling you OP. I have just lost my beloved grandmother and the tears won't come. Just numbness and exhaustion which is far worse.
Marley and me would do it, but I have a beautiful labrador myself - I just can't.

Alcohol always works better than films, I find. However Philadelphia is definitely an ugly cry type film. Maybe Philadelphia and wine, that will do it!

The Search with Montgomery Clift. There's a version on YT with subtitles & 1948 in the title. Just checked it & it has the original sound (English). Gets me every time.

Watched Inside Out with DD and the bit where BingBong gets forgotten had me sneaking away to cry.

Also end of Coco where he sings to his grandma 😭

omg. This!! Watched it in the cinema. Where he sacrifices himself!! All the parents were teary. Kids were like “whatever”. It was really interesting to see that the parents were sad about something that the kids couldn’t really understand. That film was v good on two levels.

Truly Madly Deeply is my go to. Juliet Stevenson at the psychiatrist.
The last episode of After Life by Ricky Gervais..DH and I both on the sofa sobbing.
Of you're a Doctor Who fan either Father's Day (Billie Piper gives good cry), or the Van Gogh one (Vincent And The Doctor).

One scene in particular in Midsommar has me sobbing uncontrollably, every single time.

Oh yes…. Beaches and Marley & Me definitely.

About Time

The end of Firefly Lane season 2 just made me blub

I thought it was so beautifully done. The jarring transition from past to present. Snippets of surroundings.... God I was so sad after it.

Any episode of Long Lost Family

Petty much!

For music, I break at Dean Lewis: "How Do I Say Goodbye." Every time.

*Pretty much! Sorry.

herbygarden · 14/05/2023 20:25

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Notebook

clpsmum · 14/05/2023 20:26

@PickoftheMix oh try and get it if you can think it's channel four on demand thing. It's the real life interviews of victims of aids that were recorded at the time absolutely heartbreaking but feel we owe it to them to watch xx

NoWordForFluffy · 14/05/2023 20:28

Another Marley &Me vote.

Or The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. I made the mistake of watching this at 9 months' pregnant. So many tears and lots of snot!

Mossstitch · 14/05/2023 20:29

Paul o Grady for the love of dogs always brings a tear to my eye but since he's died 😭

Terms of Endearment - that hospital scene with her sons
Billy Elliott - the very last scene where his dad catches his breath

someone should compile all the best sad scenes into one hours long loop so we could just watch them when we needed a blub.

Agree about Terms of Endearment hospital scene, I can cry just thinking about it!

Bridge to Terabithia!

Yes. My dd had to lead me out of the cinema at the end.

User14528564 · 14/05/2023 20:38

Is Firefly Lane like Virgin River and This is us. It’s been mentioned a few times on this thread

SirenSays · 14/05/2023 20:38

Boys don't cry

MrsArrison · 14/05/2023 20:40

Babyteeth. Nothing has ever made me cry like that did. And each repeated watch is worse, because you know what's coming, so the sobbing starts earlier!

Ozzbozz20 · 14/05/2023 20:43

My sisters keeper- HYSTERICAL sobbing
You before me- the ending 😱
Stepmom- god so sad

mewkins · 14/05/2023 20:43

Watership down
Beaches
Stepmom
Philadelphia

Yes to Philadelphia. There's also some really sad documentaries out there. The Beegees one from a year or so ago is REALLY sad.
