Pissing down again. AGAIN. I think I’ve had the washing out 3 times this year and it’s mid May.

And just more of the same predicted. Mizzle and fog tomorrow morning😒

Wonderful sunny day in SE today from about noon, still sunny now.... so rare I almost did a celebratory dance and the day was soooo much nicer for it...

Sun all day here in Kent

No, I’m in Sheffield. And it’s been shit. In fact we keep saying ‘This is Cornwall weather!’

(Many holidays in Cornwall!)

Plenty of 'Cornwall weather' down here in Cornwall too. I was in the supermarket yesterday and you would think it was November the way people were dressed - including me!

EversoDisorganised · 12/05/2023 06:56

It's the changeableness of it that's annoying. Yesterday it was lively and sunny and warm till about 11.30, then it poured with rain for half an hour and got much cooler, then sunny again all afternoon with another downpour about 6pm. I did get a load of washing line dried between 1 and 6pm as it was breezy but it only really works if I'm at home to grab it in when the rain starts which I'm not most days. Normally at this time of year there are more days when you can reliably put it out before work and get it in dry in the evening but not this year, there seems to be at least one downpour every day.

I know what you mean, we normally have beautiful spring days but it's a good day if you can leave the house without a coat at the moment, although there has been a small handful of nice days. I'm fed up of people saying "but it's spring" like I don't know what the weather is usually like this time of year. It's actually meant to be 16 degrees today and sunny so I might get to roll my sleeves up ☀️

MorrisZapp · 12/05/2023 07:16

Awful isn't it. Cold, windy, unpredictable with bursts of warm sun that make you sweat. If you put on something lighter you freeze and feel silly.

As for outerwear shall I just carry every jacket I own at all times?

Edinburgh's always changeable but this is getting silly.

Okay this is gonna sound a bit conspiracy theorist, I am anything BUT..
I was told about this recently and can confirm it's literally on the gov website.
A big reason it's so cloudy and rainy this spring is because planes are up there all day specifically to "create" cloud. At first people thought it was too create rain for crops, make sure reservoirs stay full etc. But apparently it's to create a barrier to block the sun so the earth cools down. Sounds crazy but it's on the gov website that they are doing this.

Hahahaha oh crikey.

You've been watching too much cloudy with a chance of meatballs.

Lonelycrab · 12/05/2023 07:46

Yes it’s been crap here so far this year, N Hampshire. Seem to get a nice few hours, or possibly a day but then it soon reverts to grey and drab, cool and wet. Getting properly fed up if it now. Was thinking back to spring if 2020 just as we locked down, how nice it was then!

Saw something the other day that said the jetstream is weaker this year. Only hope it picks up as at the start of June I have a camping trip In North Wales…

EversoDisorganised · 12/05/2023 07:55

N. Hampshire here too, it was much netter last year too, I had covid at the end of March and spent the whole time out in the garden, no chance this year, just about every time it’s been sunny for a few hours I’ve been at work. We were sitting on the patio all evening this time last year too, not managing more than the odd half hour out there yet this year.

Whinge · 12/05/2023 08:02

I agree. It's jumper weather then an hour later t shirt and shorts weather, then 20 minutes later you need a big coat and jumper again.

@QueefQueen80s I think you need to back this up with a link to the gov website pls.

I just saw a post on FB as we have a "severe" weather warning incoming for the weekend.

It went along the lines of 'make sure your pets are indoors, expect extreme cold weather" etc....

It a low of 8 degrees and a high of 13 degrees one day and 9 and 15 the next. 😂

I did think of this thread when I saw it.

No, I am not in the UK, but we are a little bit dramatic when it comes to colder temperatures.

KittyAlfred · 12/05/2023 08:34

Apparently Devon and Cornwall still have a hosepipe ban!

CurlewKate · 12/05/2023 08:37

Don't worry-there's a heatwave coming. Climate change? Pah-what climate change!

TheKobayashiMaru · 12/05/2023 08:38

I sympathise OP, every time you think it is getting better, it rains again.

CeeJay81 · 12/05/2023 08:42

It's lovely here in Wales until late on Sunday. 18 degrees today and tomorrow its 20 degrees and 🌞 all day.

Objectrelations · 12/05/2023 08:43

I'm in Jersey and it has been cold and raining practically every day. Usually by this time of year we all have a tan and a number of beach days behind us.

QueefQueen80s · 12/05/2023 09:04

Yep I'm the first to roll my eyes at conspiracy nuts and I'm cynical as they come but he showed me the link. I'll find it for you. Also if you google geoengineering it'll show they've been talking about it for years as a viable way to stop the earth heating up any more then it already has.

QueefQueen80s · 12/05/2023 09:06

Also cloud seeding.

AsphaltGirl · 12/05/2023 09:09

I'm in London and it's shitty here too. We get a few hours of sun here and there but otherwise it's bloody freezing and grey and wet and depressing.

SequinDiscoBiscuits · 12/05/2023 09:10

Where I live (NW) we get an average of 7 feet of rain a year. Yes, feet.
I've thought it's been quite dry in comparison to usual, must be falling elsewhere instead.
But yes, it's beyond tedious when incessant, I can fully empathise.

SequinDiscoBiscuits · 12/05/2023 09:11

Ps cloud seeding and weather modification have been happening since the end of WW2, that's nothing new.

Exactly, so it's not as crazy as it sounds.

tatteddear · 12/05/2023 09:15

I'm in Herts and I'm a dog Walker. It's been boiling one minute, absolute stair rods rain the next here. It's impossible to know what to wear when I'm out all day. And everything stays wet for ages as I don't want to the put the heating on to dry it.
It's really muddy so still in wellies but when the sun is out they are too hot and I'm fed up of wearing them.
I'm constantly either too hot, or drenched, nothing in between.
And it adds to my time as I have to dry the dogs off when I drop them off.

When I started this I thought 'brilliant' I'll have a nice tan on my legs from all the shorts wearing. Not a bloody chance!

Not in the U.K. - cloud seeding is no use here. It’s basically the ME and China that do it.

Could cloud seeding be used in the UK?

How does cloud seeding work, and are conditions right for it to operate in the UK?

Bloody freezing? I'm in London and I've been out without my jacket for the last two weeks. We had a barbecue last month and the other weekend I was sat in the sun in my garden with an ice cream. It's been 14-18 degrees most days and it's forecast for 20 this weekend.

You have a very odd definition of bloody freezing.
