Ok so a few days back my daughters friend went into a shop. He was just getting snacks /drink ect. Then 2 people came in. Reached over the counter sort of area and ran out with a handful of vapes. The shop owner did not gey the chance to stop them.

Anyway daughters friend went to pay for his stuff. And the owner accused him of being with the people who stole the vapes he kept telling them he does not know them. Shop owner forced daughters friend to pay for the vapes..

He went back to my daughters house and was upset daughter asked what was wrong. So she took his bank card and went back to the shop and she went mad. Told them he did not know them he has no idea who they are. And told them to give his money back . They refused and said he must be guilty as he paid it .. she then said no you forced him to and went on to tell they you can't accuse people just because they are in the same shop. She also went on to say how they have taken advantage of a man with disabilities. He has autism.

She asked for money back several times. They still refused . She the said she was gonna take 15.00 worth of stuff from their shop. So she started to. They said they were gonna called the police. She said ok. Then we can explain to the police that you have taken advantage of a man with disabilities and we can check at that cctv.

In the end the gave her friends money back .

Did daughter do the right thing ? I mean she got his money back which I suppose is what they wanted . Not sure what I would have done really 🤔

Why did he pay in the first place? 🙄

I imagine having autism may have played a part. People with autism can be vulnerable.

So have some 🙄

90stalgia · 08/05/2023 12:06

Good for her!

ListeningToZach · 08/05/2023 12:06

She probably didn’t go about it the right way OP, but I understand why she did what she did.

Just forget about it now.

MrBit · 08/05/2023 12:08

I think she did the right thing
I imagine she lost her shit because they took advantage of his vulnerability
There's no shame in that , good for her

absnwpqimwest · 08/05/2023 12:08

Good for her, shop owner clearly took advantage of a vulnerable person

NeatCompactSleeper · 08/05/2023 12:09

Your daughter acted like an idiot and a thief but I'm guessing you know that.

Greenfinch7 · 08/05/2023 12:09

She sounds wonderful. I would be extremely proud of a child who stands up to injustice. Very brave.

People confess to things they didn't do when they are intimidated or under pressure.

LakeTiticaca · 08/05/2023 12:09

3 cheers to your daughter for standing up for her friend, and standing up to the bully 😁

NeatCompactSleeper · 08/05/2023 12:10

And I don't believe you're not sure what you would've done.

I mean calling the police and getting them to look through the CCTV would've been the correct thing.

Why are you not sure about that?

dinmin · 08/05/2023 12:11

Good for her! So long as she wasn’t abusive or aggressive about it.

Agree. Your dd sounds great.

I wouldn't say she acted like an idiot. I think she stood up for her vulnerable friend who the shopkeeper clearly took advantage of. If I was in Sainsbury's at the same time as someone stole a telly then I wouldn't expect them to force me to pay for it so why should this young man?

Valhalla17 · 08/05/2023 12:12

Well done to your daughter, very brave.

Emmamoo89 · 08/05/2023 12:12

Good for her 😊 you should be proud x

MrBit · 08/05/2023 12:10

Why do you think that ?

Because simply deciding the shop owner was wrong, marching down and stealing their stock is both thieving and idiotic.

Having said that, the chances of A) Anyone being able to reach over a counter and grab the vapes (kept right at the back) is slim and the idea they would've refunded the bank card without the owner present is even slimmer.

Your daughter was very brave @Oneoff45 I would be proud that she stood up 4 her friend like that!

She wasn't there to witness it

The police is the obvious choice - to look at CCTV.

You can't just march into a shop and start stealing because a friend of yours was accused of stealing.

And probably waited 3 days for the police to arrive. The shop keeper would have got rid of the cctv. Fantastic plan.

You literally said she started to?

RoomOnTheBrooms · 08/05/2023 12:16

@NeatCompactSleeper Sorry but you don't have to be a genius to read that DD didn't actually leave the shop with the stock, therefore she didn't steal.
It's not stealing until you leave the premises with the unpaid for stock.

Beginningless · 08/05/2023 12:16

Wow I am so impressed with her! Yes maybe some of her method was a bit aggressive but the shopkeeper was the aggressor and she was reacting defensively. Yes with maturity she maybe wouldn’t have steamed in and found other ways to establish facts. But, I’d be proud my child was such a good friend and willing to speak up about injustice.

She threatened to steal and started to.

That's an idiotic thing to do, whether she witnessed the incident or not.

The fact she didn't, makes it even sillier.
