I would never call myself the greatest royalist, I’m not bothered either way.

But I loved that for the horses, the music, the colour and the history.

SunnyEgg · 06/05/2023 13:05

So good

Loved the spectacle and music

Imo we’d be mad to throw this away

polkadotdalmation · 06/05/2023 13:05

This is the bumpy coach 😀

I'm sure it's not deliberate (??) but I love how in most shots of the family Anne's headdress obscures Harry's face.

I clocked that too - a bit like the candle at the funeral.

CatMattress · 06/05/2023 13:06

Grr. The kids were taking lumps out of each other so I've had to drag my sorry arse to the playground get them to burn some energy off.

Both adhd, neither of them could manage to just stay nicely at home for the duration of the ceremony, never mind sit through a service.

Gutted to miss the smiley bit

gemstoneju · 06/05/2023 13:06

I can't see anyone wearing one of those ermine capes around their shoulders without thinking of the King of the Birds from the Rupert Bear annuals.

Giggorata · 06/05/2023 13:06

Imagine a heavy WET bearskin, the poor buggers.

PermanentTemporary · 06/05/2023 13:06

@TitsInAbsentia Elgar Pomp and Circumstance March no 4 - is that the one you meant?

MrsFinkelstein · 06/05/2023 13:06

JudgeJ · 06/05/2023 13:04

Anne didn't go, she was interviewd for an earlier Jubilee and said she hadn't been happy to be left home and Charles hadn't been happy with his hair Brylcreemed down!

You're correct, my mistake.

Anyone else having a good singalong to the hymns? Testing my memory a bit as I'm an atheist and it's years since I left school!

I did, I even muttered my way through the Eucharist, I can now stay in bed tomorrow!

Same.

Gollumsring · 06/05/2023 13:06

Do the riders nearest the carriage have blonde wigs under their hats?

the80sweregreat · 06/05/2023 13:06

It was fascinating.
This is the uncomfortable coach
They don't like this one much

SoupDragon · 06/05/2023 13:04

I remember my mum telling me the same - they had so many people round to watch as TVs were rare.

My Dad says my Grandad bought a TV so they could watch, the whole village came round to watch. He was so excited that they had a TV, my Grandad returned it to the shop the day after the Coronation and they didn't get another one for a fair few years.

flutterbyebaby · 06/05/2023 13:07

I want a cape now

Casuaala · 06/05/2023 13:07

What a shame about the weather. How very British.

I said exactly that to DH Smile

the80sweregreat · 06/05/2023 13:07

The weather ! The one thing money can't buy

CruCru · 06/05/2023 13:07

My Mum said she went round to a friend’s to watch QEII’s coronation on the telly … and they were sent out the room for giggling. Perhaps not surprising if it was four hours long.

Bouledeneige · 06/05/2023 13:08

Weird things you never thought you'd say - Oh good here comes the marching

Babymamamama · 06/05/2023 13:08

How rude calling him an old man on itv, ageist.

Bells are great!

Our village church bells are bing bonging right now!

KrasiTime · 06/05/2023 13:08

My grandparents had also bought a tv, mum says she remembers the amount of people in their living room.

MrsFinkelstein · 06/05/2023 13:09

That carriage was first seen in 1762.

ScribblingPixie · 06/05/2023 13:10

Look at that gold coach bouncing around like a fairground ride!
