There were a lot of these around for last royal beano and they were remarkably cheerful. Anyone got any photos of current ones? Or are they few and far between? I've seen some on tv but none in real life.👑

Is there anyone else out there who doesn’t like them? 🙈 I just don’t, I don’t know why 😫. Please tell me I’m not alone?

You're alone 😃

The lovely ladies in the village I live in have done all the recent celebrations. Including Christmas, Easter, Halloween etc. They put loads of effort in and they look lovely.

This week someone stole Camilla from a display. Not really sure what I think about that tbh 😆

Wonder if she's in a skip round the corner.

Or on someone's mantelpiece! 🤔

I don't do postbox toppers (my skills are lacking), but I have yarnbombed quite a few times. It's just a nice thing to do. I usually make about twenty individual flowers, plant them out & put a note next to them saying 'help yourself to something to make your day a bit brighter'.
The only time I've had a bad response was when a group of drunk students pulled them up & then puked over them. I scowled a fair bit that day.

@Justalittlebitduckling You are not alone.

I promise I am not usually a miserable bastard, and I usually love creativity, but these things really piss me off, even though I know it is irrational and they delight loads of people.
It might be because the woman locally who does them started posting on the local FB group fishing for compliments and when she didn’t get any would be a sulky about it as if she wants everyone to comment how amazing she is and if she doesn’t get enough likes she “bumps” the post.
Or it could be because with typical British wet weather, I really hate them getting soggy, like they shouldn’t be outdoors?
i wish I could be more enthusiastic but I do enjoy other people loving them, I just can’t do it!

I'm gonna be the party pooper here but I think they're hideous! I would consider them on a par with littering or graffiti.
I've even seen 'wooly things' in trees. Really unattractive.

DiscoBeat · 05/05/2023 00:30

We have them in put village, they are lovely! I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Littering creates a mess on paths, verges etc. Graffiti is often difficult to remove (TBF, some graffiti art is amazing and should definitely have dedicated areas to display art like that).

These are harmless and easily removed.

I love spotting them, the ones on this thread are great. There are only a couple of postboxes I’ve seen in the past around here, might have to take a drive tomorrow to see if they’ve got new additions.

This is next-level yarn-bombing. I love it.

yarn crafters tend to be a very responsible lot. The type who will remove their own guerilla public art installations when they start to get dingy.

Stealing/vandalising toppers does happen. I am in a FB group for people who make toppers. People do it to brighten up their local area, make people smile. Some might be "fishing for compliments" but most do it anonymously. I have done a couple on my local post box and it does get talked about on the local FB page, people post photos and make comments - which I'm not denying are nice to hear. My first one which was a Christmas theme with santa and trees and fairy light "bunting" created a lot of attention.

Every few days there is a post on the FB group about toppers being stolen, especially the really intricate ones with figures on. They're just attached with cable ties, anyone with a pair of scissors or a knife could get the topper off without any trouble.

Scummy behaviour though, and if you haven't got your own personal postbox in the house, what are you going to DO with it?

There's loads where I live!

Loads where I am too, local news stories and lots of Facebook posts about

I wonder if there is a divide between urban areas and more rural ones

As well as postbox toppers, we also have these guardsmen and total visitors on all the bollards in the village. They were first made for the Jubilee then sold off for charity, this set appeared last week.

I love them too, we have a few near us and I think it just epitomises Britishness, making something clever and sweet, for the public, with no recognition (mainly).
There are loads of lovely British things like this. We went to a village fete over the weekend and my sons (who weren’t born here) were like “so what’s this for?” (as ones in Aus are normally done by schools to raise money for the school) and I was like “normally to raise money for something like a village hall or something” and they were full of questions about how do people in the village decide to do it, how do they decide who does what, wouldn’t it be easier to just get everyone to donate etc and I thought, what a nice thing an English village fete is. Organised by volunteers, raising money but also just doing a nice thing in the community even though it’s hard work.

Aaargh I missed the typo - royal visitors not total!

Not a coronation one, but this is our Easter one, so I'll pop down this weekend and see if there's a update!
