How many people do you think this spread would serve?

I’m having a gathering tomorrow and having a slight panic about having enough food! (And about the weather which looks like it will be the worst of the weekend but that’s a separate complaint)

How many people do you think this spread would serve?

3 x quiche
2 x giant pork pie
1 x gammon joint
3 x large loaves crusty bread
2 x tubs falafel
2 x pots hummus
Potato salad
Cous cous salad
4 x blocks of cheese
“Other” salad (a guest is bringing it)
Sliced veggies
“Leaves” Salad

Coleslaw
2x chutneys
2 x sharing bags kettle chips
2 x tubes Pringles

Cake for afters

I thought add more crips maybe one more quiche.

The ones saying 6 are really making me laugh. Who goes to a gathering and eats half a quiche, half a large loaf of bread, 3/4 a block of cheese, 3/4 a tube of pringles, and a 6th of a gammon joint 🤣🤣🤣

Exactly this. Cannot believe people are saying that is only enough for 6 people!!! 😂

@MolkosTeenageAngst you make a good point about what is popular.

I “think” it will be okay as almost everyone has met everyone else before and knows people’s dietaries but I will make a little PSA when I bring out the food especially to my dad who you can always count on to eat literally anything and who is a penchant of the “eat as you go” buffet technique

I think it sounds fine but I'd make 2-3 more salads (without a mayo dressing) and drop one or two of the quiches/pork pies. Just something simple like a carrot salad with a mustard dressing or a really good green salad.

8 different salads?!

Bemyclementine · 01/05/2023 07:29

@CateringPanic can you report back this evening? I think you'll have loads leftover!

CateringPanic · 01/05/2023 09:09

I will provide a full breakdown including the popularity of the quiche! 😂

TheGirlWhoLived · 01/05/2023 09:11

You’re going to be eating leftover quiche for a week 😂

Youdoyoubabe · 01/05/2023 09:12

24

CateringPanic · 01/05/2023 19:59

Update:

It was waayyy too much food! Granted I only had 18 in the end because two people couldn’t make it but even with 20 I would have had loads leftover even without buying more stuff last night.
Pork Pies - 75% gone
Quiche - I only put 2 out in the end and only one slice left
Almost all the cheese gone
All crisps and grapes gone
Lots of bread home
Most of the cake gone
About half the gammon gone.

I sent my GF guest home with the rest of the GF bread, cake and quiche.
I sent my vegan guest home with a tub of falafel.
I sent my brother home with a quiche and a loaf of bread
Sent MIL home with a quiche.

DH and I have a fridge heaving with pasta salad, cous cous and the rest of the gammon.

Lesson learnt to trust myself more!

Ah well

Did everyone enjoy it?? Sounds like a great day

CateringPanic · 01/05/2023 20:11

@mackthepony yes it went very well - thankfully the weather was kind to us and we only had a smattering of rain so were able to be largely outside.

I don't like to say I told you so but...

actually I do like to say I told you so.

WestOfWestminster · 01/05/2023 21:16

Eh? Doesn't sound like way too much food if most of it got eaten?

Taxitaxiforever · 01/05/2023 21:18

About 10 but not enough Pringles !

TheChosenTwo · 01/05/2023 21:40

It really doesn’t sound like there was
too much!
I know I’d never take the last of anything in case someone else also wanted some, eg if 18 people saw 2 quiches they’d only take a tiny amount. Or if only half the gammon was sliced I’d just eat what was sliced and leave the rest. However you managed to send guests home with something too which is lovely.
Glad you had a nice day and the weather was mostly okay!

Just catching up with this - yep - not surprised tbh. I was at a family event on the bank holiday, the person hosting will be eating sandwiches and cake for weeks. Over catering is much more common. People who've never catered for big numbers do over estimate - you got it right first time. Your instincts are good.
