I’m having a gathering tomorrow and having a slight panic about having enough food! (And about the weather which looks like it will be the worst of the weekend but that’s a separate complaint)

How many people do you think this spread would serve?

3 x quiche
2 x giant pork pie
1 x gammon joint
3 x large loaves crusty bread
2 x tubs falafel
2 x pots hummus
Potato salad
Cous cous salad
4 x blocks of cheese
“Other” salad (a guest is bringing it)
Sliced veggies
“Leaves” Salad

Coleslaw
2x chutneys
2 x sharing bags kettle chips
2 x tubes Pringles

Cake for afters

It's fine especially with dessert and your additional purchases. People don't need to be stuffed to enjoy themselves and the food, unless they've over for 24 hours or something and it's meant as an entire day of food which feels unlikely

CateringPanic · 30/04/2023 19:13

@SquirrellyTheSquirrel unfortunately I have been told at least twice that my menu is too “pork heavy” so no can do

The ones saying 6 are really making me laugh. Who goes to a gathering and eats half a quiche, half a large loaf of bread, 3/4 a block of cheese, 3/4 a tube of pringles, and a 6th of a gammon joint 🤣🤣🤣

My dh 😳😆

TheChosenTwo · 30/04/2023 19:14

Omg I’d have said 6-8 based on the first numbers, 10 at an absolute stretch.
I don’t like shop bought quiche or any pork pie so would have had more of the other stuff.
Anyway, you’ve got more to add now, hope it all goes well!

TheChosenTwo · 30/04/2023 19:15

Also, gammon joint can vary wildly from very small to very big! We don’t know how big it is 😂

HamstersAreMyLife · 30/04/2023 19:18

Sounds good with the top ups! I love a feast like this but what's the plan for the bread?

Don’t listen to those lunatics people. There’s enough demarcation between sausage and gammon- nobody will even notice.

Dunnoburt · 30/04/2023 19:21

Me and DP for dinner and leftovers tomorrow.....so 4 🤣🤣🤣🤣

AtleastitsnotMonday · 30/04/2023 19:23

I think you have plenty now.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 30/04/2023 19:24

It’s better now but I think you need more bread and also some cheese crackers.

I’d do a huge tray of chips too - people love them!

CateringPanic · 30/04/2023 19:25

@YellowAndGreenToBeSeen i have crackers!

@CateringPanic Tell me about these blocks of cheese. I'm intrigued. I'm imaging 4 rectangles of cheddar laid out. You mean like a cheese selection right?

Crunchymum · 30/04/2023 19:28

4 rectangular blocks of cheddar*

This is what i'm imagining too. 4 large blocks of cheddar

If you have a vegan I recon you could do with letting them know what you've got for them to give them the option of being able to bring something else to supplement it if they want.

Is the potato salad and cake vegan for example? As mayo is made from egg and most cakes also have egg too

Dreamingofasandybeach · 30/04/2023 19:33

why don't you buy a big chicken and roast one tomorrow to go with it too? helps bulk it out a bit xx

@Wherethewildthymeblows thank you! The complete random range of answers tells me it really is very hard to say.

I have on 5yo coming although she can eat more than a lot of adults!

My MIL and FIL barely eat anything so I might count them as half a person each!

My vegan has falafel, hummus, bread, veggies, potato salad, crisps and cake not sure what’s wrong with that for them?

Are you making the potato salad with vegan mayo? And the cake is a vegan one?

As a vegan I would feel undercatered for. Hummus and falafel is so bloody boring. Get some Linda McCartney sausage rolls at the very least, and make the couscous vegan as well. Tesco do some nice vegan cold "meats" which would be nice too.

And to answer your original question, I thought 12. But I wondered about the quiche because in my experience not many people like quiche.

Thinkwicebeforeyouleavemylife · 30/04/2023 19:35

Personally I'd say it would feed about 25-30. How are you guys coming up with 6 to 8 or even 10?

I can't remember the last time I went to a gathering and ate half a quiche, a sixth of a gammon joint and half a quiche plus salad and crisps. Jesus. Seriously this is so much food!

Also people won't take much as they want to be polite and leave some for others so I'm sure you'll have leftovers 😂😂😂

Darkroot · 30/04/2023 19:36

@SquirrellyTheSquirrel ha, brilliant! You’re great 😁

WestOfWestminster · 30/04/2023 19:36

I was also going to mention I think you've massively over done the quiche as I don't know many who like it, but perhaps I just don't move in quiche circles

If she buys a Mumsnet big chicken it'll see her through all of May Grin

viques · 30/04/2023 19:41

Make sure you carve the gammon joint beforehand, some people will just hack at it which will make it impossible for other people to serve themselves sensible portions.

MadeofCheeese · 30/04/2023 19:42

Another vote for 10 but I like people to be well fed. 🙂

Lulu1919 · 30/04/2023 19:42

10 to 12

viques · 30/04/2023 19:43

Why aren’t more people bringing contributions?
