Universally loved celebrities

After the death of Paul o Grady it occurred to me I've never heard anyone say a bad word about him before or after death- ditto George Michael
Other celebs I can think of are David Attenborough and Peter Kay
Are there any others?

Jarvis Cocker and his friends were standing right across the pavement where I was walking next to a busy road in London circa 2001. They were completely oblivious to anyone else or thought they were more important, I had to step into the road. (And I am a big Pulp/Jarvis fan, but this just made me think that perhaps all celebrities are a bit self important).

I’ve had a couple of interactions with Jarvis Cocker and each time he seemed friendly and unassuming.

It's an impossible challenge for a celeb to be utterly lovely at all times and have absolutely zero people have something bad to say about them.

One grumpy look on a shitty day when they've got to go and slap on a public face and they really don't want to, to the wrong person, and that person is going to be horribly disappointed and tell everyone how awful XYZ is.

That said - Anthony Head is a fucking saint and I adore him, but I have known his wife for years (so have a lot of people in my field though so not really any big deal!).

I could dish the dirt on a lot of dog related telly types...

Graeme Hall is not very nice, also his 'qualification' in dog training is entirely self certified and a 'pay annually having ticked some boxes to agree you can do what you say you can do' affair. He's also very outdated and poor at actual dog training, but extremely good to camera and has the sheer, unadulterated arrogance required to do what he does.

Victoria Stilwell is very good, both in front of camera and at dog training/behaviour, far more so than the current TV show really demonstrates tbh as the format is rather shallow and 'shiny' and it doesn't show the depth of work that has gone in behind the scenes - but tv dog training is a tricky bastard, too much actual effective, kind dog training is basically boring as fuck and no one would watch it. SO it has to have some sort of frilly shit going on!

Linda Biscuits from Late Night Lycett is a sweetie, has never weed on a studio floor and never would! (Joe though... not so much and almost certainly would!)

I have never heard a single bad word about Paul O Grady and I have worked with people who worked with him on tv, both front of camera and crew and no ones ever said anything other than that he was absolutely lovely (and if people aren't you REALLY do hear about it from the animal peeps, we're not tolerant of people who are drama queens or arseholes around animals!).

I don't think there's a celebrity who is universal loved, as there will be people who dislike them because they are liked by many. Whether that's because they think that the person aren't talented enough to justify their fame, or they think the niceness is fake, and other reasons. I mean I'm sure I've read people saying they dislike David Attenborough on here, and his name has appeared frequently so far.

But going by some of the names that appeared on here, I feel people are just listing celebrities they admire and feel that means every else must too. Seemingly blind to the fact there's groups that have a reason for disliking this celebrity. (Or worse just think these groups of people don't matter and their opinion is therefore meaningless.)

Such as the Queen, I mean honestly no matter how much you adored her, you can't truly think your adoration means universally loved. Surely you must be aware lots of people disliked her? There's plenty in England who disliked her, before you even venture into countries where minimal political awareness and knowledge of history would inform you why.

Joanna lumley :)

I love Joanna lumley! I hope she is as nice as she seems.

sqirrelfriends · 22/04/2023 06:05

I’ve heard loads of bad things about Beyoncé. I wanted to believe she was genuinely lovely but apparently not.

sqirrelfriends · 22/04/2023 06:08

HighInfidelity · 21/04/2023 22:47

I used to like her a lot but she made some very victim blaming types of comments that put me off. Jennifer Saunders seems to pretty well liked though I think.

I agree about Dolly Parton. I’ve never heard anything bad about her at all. Joan Collins is another. Kylie Minogue seems to only have positive stories about her too. I think it’s very rare to find somebody universally liked though as there will always be somebody that takes against a person.

Joan Collins came to my home town to do some makeover tv show and apparently she was basically throwing money around and was a massive dickhead if anyone kept her waiting for more than a minute.

Hotcuppatea · 22/04/2023 06:13

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders seem like two people I'd like to go on holiday with.

bevelino · 22/04/2023 06:19

Mary Berry

Hotcuppatea · 22/04/2023 06:21

And obviously Victoria Wood seemed like a wonderful human being.

bexappleberries · 22/04/2023 06:21

I've met Michael Palin, he is such a sweetheart

Fannyinfinefettle · 22/04/2023 06:25

@HighInfidelity I've heard more than one person on threads like these say that Jennifer Saunders was an awful bully at school.

JoyDivisionOvenGlovesx · 22/04/2023 06:26

Just adding to the Bob Mortimer tally.

Seems squarely in the ‘not a bad word’ category. I’ve never seen anyone say they’re not fussed about him, always positive.

ClaireEclair · 22/04/2023 06:34

Brad Pitt? You haven’t heard the update to night on the plane then and the way he is attempting to smear Angelina Jolie. There was a hashtag trending on Twitter after #bradpittisanabuser He got drunk on a private plane, pushed AJ, punched the wall and ceiling of the plane, shook AJ by the head, shoved one of the children who tried to protect her. When she tried to calm them all down she covered herself and some of the younger kids in a blanket. He poured beer and wine over them. And she was trying to sell her share of their winery to him for years but he would only do it if she signed a non disclosure agreement (which we can assume is about his abuse). She refused. When she eventually managed to sell it he tried to sue her.

Those saying Keanu Reeves - up until recently I would have agreed, but I read Matthew Perry's autobiography and he is nasty about Keanu in passing several times but doesn't expand on why.

Jealously? Matthew Perry came across as a complete self pitying arsehole in the excerpts I read.

That was the post I was going to reply to also. Not nice at all apparently. You don’t get to be ‘Queen Bey’ without getting rid of your competition

Riapia · 22/04/2023 06:43

Victoria Wood.

sashh · 22/04/2023 06:44

Never heard a bad word about Dolly and how many big stars go to Rotherham to start a reading scheme.

Redglitter · 22/04/2023 06:45

Universally loved Alison Steadman. Bradley Walsh

God no. I hate Bradley Walsh ugh can't stand the fake idiot

Have heard negative stuff about Joanna Lumley who lives locally. Was very surprised.

Joanna Lumley is very good friends with Boris Johnson and initiated that corrupt garden bridge project which cost Londoners tens of millions of pounds but never got off the ground.

Athrawes · 22/04/2023 06:50

Michael Palin

stayathomer · 22/04/2023 06:50

Mo Farah, Gary Liniker, Tom Holland, Dawn French, and I miss Sean Locke. The day after Paul o Grady died I was working and everyone who bought a paper commented on how awful it was he’d died. Age group of people would have been in their 80s and everyone was so upset. I hope he knew how loved he was when he was alive

This has been deleted by MNHQ as it was the work of a previously banned poster.

Is that a joke? He chained an escort to a radiator and people have had plenty to say about thar!

Jürgen Klopp
Roger Federer
Steffi Graf
Melinda Gates

Sean Locke, yes! Gary Lineker definitely not. There are reasons why two women have divorced him (and avoiding taxes is not a good look even if it's within the letter of the law).

daisymoonlight · 22/04/2023 07:04

Dolly parton and KEANU REEVES!- he is known to be one of the kindest, most generous people in Hollywood
