After the death of Paul o Grady it occurred to me I've never heard anyone say a bad word about him before or after death- ditto George Michael
Other celebs I can think of are David Attenborough and Peter Kay
Are there any others?

Julian Clary seems very nice.

I don’t think we can ever truly judge the character of a public personality, no matter how good they are at the PR side of their job.

GraysPapaya · 22/04/2023 08:21

Paul Rudd and Ryan Renolds.

HuggingtheHRT · 22/04/2023 08:21

Michael Palin
Victoria Wood (RIP)
Tom Hanks

And obviously Victoria Wood seemed like a wonderful human being.

I randomly met her once going to the loo in a cafe and we had a random convo - at no time did she ‘announce’ who she was (but obv internally I was OMG it’s Victoria wood!)

JustDanceAddict · 22/04/2023 08:26

Phil Rosenthal

Sir David Jason?

Nope, not universally liked. Does not come across in interviews as someone you’d like to spend time with…say no more

Confused about many of these names.

David Attenborough would obviously fulfil some kind of “loved / respected by a lot of the nation” criteria (for good reason) but most of these other names are just irrelevant to most people. Just because there aren’t horrendous stories about someone doesn’t mean they are loved by much of the general public.

Even Bob Ross? :)

Raquelos · 22/04/2023 08:27

Alan Rickman. He seemed to be universally loved by those who knew him. I still feel sad when I remember he has gone.

CJsGoldfish · 22/04/2023 08:27

Richard E Grant ❤️

Fraaahnces · 22/04/2023 08:27

Princess Diana

Chris Kamara, always has been genuine

Yeh from what I have seen he does seem so nice

Ellie43 · 22/04/2023 08:29

Carrie Fisher?

butterpuffed · 22/04/2023 08:29

I haven't even heard of some of the people mentioned . Some are reading the title as 'Loved by Me' rather than Universally Loved .

cptartapp · 22/04/2023 08:30

Robin Williams. RIP

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 22/04/2023 08:30

Sorry but most of these have had bad things said about them (and gossip).

Paul O’Grady appears to be lovely.

Most people will have had on/off days in my experience which comes across in how they come across when people meet them in real life.

BiggerBoat1 · 22/04/2023 08:32

Definitely Graham Norton, Sam Ryder and David Attenborough

I'd like to add Sandi Toksvig and Susan Calman.

drsp51 · 22/04/2023 08:33

Terry Wogan, Victoria Wood, Tom Hanks and going back a bit, Dean Martin

BiggerBoat1 · 22/04/2023 08:33

Paul O'Grady was an absolute gentleman. What a loss for his friends and family.

CellophaneFlower · 22/04/2023 08:33

Jason Orange

Whiteroomjoy · 22/04/2023 08:34

These threads are tosh.
Some people get lucky or are very disciplined in how they present their character to the public and don’t ever screw up. If you think that shows their true selves you are deluded.
we all have met, possibly dated, people we liked at first and then didn’t like as we saw more of them. And those people we love, we can sometimes not like what they do.
All humans have flaws. We all have a tendency to screw up from time to time, there ain’t one of us that hasn’t hurt someone in the past . However, most of us try our best to be decent humans, considerate of others feelings, and empathetic.
celebs are no different. It is merely how good they are , how lucky they get, at being able to present an image to the public that is perceived as “lovable”

UniversalMamma · 22/04/2023 08:34

I’ve heard people say bad things about David Attenborough and Peter Kay!

marmaladeone · 22/04/2023 08:35

ONJ was an absolute angel.
