Universally loved celebrities

After the death of Paul o Grady it occurred to me I've never heard anyone say a bad word about him before or after death- ditto George Michael
Other celebs I can think of are David Attenborough and Peter Kay
Are there any others?

OP posts:

Michael Palin.

About Gary Barlow, his tax arrangements have been the source of criticism.

Scout2016 · 22/04/2023 07:51

Bill Nighy. The Sylvanian Family rabbit at the Oscars sealed it for me.
Please don't tell me bad things about him!

WithyouFromDuskTilDawn · 22/04/2023 07:52

Also Neil Patrick Harris. Nope. Surrogacy. Why do people think renting womens wombs, purchasing eggs and buying babies is ok.

Dashel · 22/04/2023 07:52

Jennifer Garner? She seems so lovely.

BillyNighysWife · 22/04/2023 07:53

Nobody in the world is universally loved. That’s the nature of human beings. They are complicated.

Michael Palin

Yep was going to say him immediately 😍

Ok I’ve been through all the pages and tried to think of some who hadn’t been mentioned (unless I missed). Correct me if I’m wrong though! (Might be thibgs I don’t know).

Julie Andrews?
Paul Rudd?
sir Jackie Stewart?

Sir Jackie Stewart was racist to Lewis Hamilton.

EarlGreyAndCucumber · 22/04/2023 08:01

@Ellie43 Jackie Stewart is relentlessly negative about Lewis Hamilton.

FabFitFifties · 22/04/2023 08:02

Showing my age, but I think it's still true, so don't burst my bubble - Donny Osmand 😍

Ellie43 · 22/04/2023 08:02

LJFred · 22/04/2023 07:22

Oh my goodness yes how has Paul Rudd not been mentioned. He and Dolly Parton are like, the goodest of good eggs.

Neil Patrick Harris, Tom Daley, Emma Watson all come across as mostly
positive

What about Kristen bell?

GP75 · 22/04/2023 08:02

ShannonMcFarland · 22/04/2023 07:49

I think Dave Grohl is quite possibly not as nice as his carefully cultivated image would have us believe.

Spill the beans, have always had a bit of a feeling about him but never heard anything.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/04/2023 08:02

Maggie Smith

Ellie43 · 22/04/2023 08:03

Bob Ross!!!!!

Ellie43 · 22/04/2023 08:03

Steve Carell

If you are going to suggest him, what about Daniel O Donnell? I don’t know much about him so apologies if I have this all wrong but isn’t he supposed to be lovely?

SybilWrites · 22/04/2023 08:08

French & Saunders

Unicorn2022 · 22/04/2023 08:10

Rylan Clark
Lewis Capaldi
Jennifer Garner
Jack Grealish
Keith Lee (MMA fighter)
Vin Diesel

Olivia Newton John

Yes! No one has ever had a bad word about her, managed to navigate fame and fortune without scandals, substance abuse, etc despite several major setbacks in all walks of her life, health (cancer at a young age), business failure, movie failure, record company disputes, marriage/relationship breakdowns, etc. Continued doing good right until her death last year at far too young an age!

Good to see so many people saying Dolly Parton, who was a life long friend to Olivia. The new release of their "Jolene" duet is awesome if you've not yet heard it. Two music icons singing together for one last time!

Wishawisha · 22/04/2023 08:12

Confused about many of these names.

David Attenborough would obviously fulfil some kind of “loved / respected by a lot of the nation” criteria (for good reason) but most of these other names are just irrelevant to most people. Just because there aren’t horrendous stories about someone doesn’t mean they are loved by much of the general public.

Maggie Smith

If Dame Maggie doesn't have a waspish tongue in private life I will be sadly disappointed!

tonystarksrighthand · 22/04/2023 08:14

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/04/2023 22:34

Anthony Head.

I love that man

Deathraystare · 22/04/2023 08:14

Yes Dolly Parton is a queen and I don't particularly like country music but i love her!!

I would imagine everyone has off days though. Especially if you rely on other people to get things done for you and for some reason things go wrong. I would probably be an awful sleb cos I do have off days. So thank your lucky stars I am not!

calimali · 22/04/2023 08:15

Yes, yes, yes to Dolly, Bob Mortimer, David Attenborough, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

I also want to add George Takei to the list. I have always loved him, and even more so after listening to him talk about how his family were treated when he was a small boy.

I would also be gutted to hear anything negative about Mackenzie Crook. I am a huge fan of The Detectorists and I read so many stories of how polite and charming he was to fans when they were shooting the last special.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 22/04/2023 08:16

I hope I never hear a bad word said about

Brian May
Revd Richard Coles
Michael Palin
Terry Wogan
