Is there anyone in the UK remotely excited about the coronation?

It was vaguely on my radar as DF is taking DS to watch a football match on the extra bank holiday. But I’ve just realised it’s only a couple of weeks away and I’ve not had a single ‘doing anything special?’ conversation. There are a few token flags about, but no real sense of impending excitement that something special is happening.

We aren’t big royalists but live in an area of the country that probably has more royal family fans than most. It wouldn’t normally be an event we would get excited about but previously, local town and villages have had lots of events to mark jubilees, royal weddings etc.

Anyone else noticed how low key the coronation seems to be? Has the shine worn off the royal family with the demise of the Queen? Has the cost of living situation taken the joy out of folk? Or maybe I just don’t go to the right places to share in the royalist excitement?

As an aside it seems optimistic to have it in early May. It'll probably be cold and piss it down. It did for the last coronation and that was June.

BunnyFun · 21/04/2023 18:06

It's no Platty Jubs, is it?

I've got a biscuit tin (I do like a commemorative biscuit tin) and will get a badge for my camp blanket which is always exciting. Other than that not bothered.

I'm at work on that bank holiday. Haven't worked a bank holiday in many years and I feel like the whole world is off lol. Some friends are having a party

WildRosie · 21/04/2023 18:38

I am quite looking forward to the coronation ceremony itself quite simply because such events are relatively rare in one's lifetime, although given Charles' advancing years, we could see another coronation within the next twenty or so years! All provided there isn't a Republican revolution in the meantime.

FWIW, I am neither Republican nor Royalist - firmly on the fence. And I concede that ceremony and pageantry is something we do awfully well in the UK.

GraysPapaya · 21/04/2023 18:45

I’m really looking forward to it! I like Charles, I’m a bit of a royalist and I love the pageantry (I’m ex armed forces), we’re also having a street party and my street know how to throw a party 🥳🇬🇧

qpmz · 21/04/2023 19:04

Yes. Good excuse to see friends and family and have fun!

houselessmatch · 21/04/2023 19:11

No interest at all.

TruthsAndALie · 21/04/2023 19:14

Of course I am - it’s a bank holiday! And that is how you sway public opinion, the RF know what’s going on.

The Remainers should have said we’d all get the day off if they won then we wouldn’t be in this mess.

Tintackedsea · 21/04/2023 19:58

It's not a bank holiday for us. I am not a royalist and I can't be doing with it. I'm happy for folk that are into it though. May they fill their boots and wave their flags with abandon!

334bu · 21/04/2023 19:59

I can barely contain my indifference.

Sorryyoufeelthatway · 21/04/2023 20:00

Don’t give a shit. So outdated and a waste of money.

JoeLovesGina · 21/04/2023 20:05

I live in a Norfolk village too and haven't heard anyone even talking about it.

Please don't give the impression that we're all old and Tory here!

Maybe just my town then …..! Definitely mostly older, conservative types here. I guess it depends on the area.

Yes can’t wait. Looking forward to getting together with family and neighbours for a traditional summer buffet. Last year was lovely so glad we get to do it again. Especially after everything we missed over Covid it still feels special to be able to get together to celebrate.

Bongosbanjo · 21/04/2023 20:18

Not arsed about the whole debacle, think the royal family are well past their sell by date, by about four hundred years.

PollyPeptide · 21/04/2023 20:20

🙋‍♀️

Itslookinggood · 21/04/2023 20:21

No interest. RF time is up.
extra BH nice though.

RoseBucket · 21/04/2023 20:22

No and pissed off at the three bank holidays which puts extra pressure on businesses who will lose money paying extra or not being able to work for three Mondays!

TooOldForThisNonsense · 21/04/2023 20:23

I wouldn’t say that I was excited but I am quite looking forward to watching it. I might get in some food for a nice lunch and a bottle of Nosecco.

Lampzade · 21/04/2023 20:23

Happy about the extra Bank Holiday

Farmerama1 · 21/04/2023 20:24

The French had the right idea…

Agree

bamboonights · 21/04/2023 20:25

Not remotely interested.

HRTQueen · 21/04/2023 20:28

No not at all and the only thing people have been talking about that I know is the extra bank holiday

I loved the Queen but now would not care if we become a republic
