Behaviour that annoys you at the airport

Liverpool52 · 16/04/2023 12:35

Have taken refuge in a bar now but what behaviour annoys you at the airport?

My top 2:

People who walk passed the multiple signs at Heathrow telling them about the rules on liquids (written and pictorially) and express outrage when said liquids get confiscated or they spend ages already at the conveyor belt digging out all of their little bottles.

On the otherside of security the people who, instead of moving their tray to the little cubicles designed for the purpose, they stand at the exit to the baggage scanner putting on shoes, belts, watches etc causing a backlog through the people scanner.

Not wearing a mask.

TeenLifeMum · 16/04/2023 23:47

People being smug because they’ve got priority boarding… great, they pay extra to get to sit on the plane and wait while the rest of us who didn’t pay extra get on and sit in our pre booked seats. Just what is the point?

my dc very much enjoyed the woman coming home from the Canary Islands last year whose hand luggage was too big so they made her wait until they boarded everyone so they could take her additional payment before she boarded last. She was having a fit about missing her priority boarding. Dd3 was so excited to see “a real life Karen in the wild”. It’s not a term dh or I use but she just came out with it. I think it made her holiday.

Not wearing a mask.

Seriously!?! I've flown 4 times in the past 2 weeks and have not seen anyone wearing a mask at all. Confused

My most hated thing is the so called duty free shops. They're pretty pointless now and I can find most things cheaper online or on sale in my high street. Those shops are an absolute waste of space!

SD1978 · 17/04/2023 00:15

People who seem surprised by the liquids rule, or food rules.....people who need to rush to get on a plane that ain't leaving until everyone at the gate is on anyway. People who can't share an armrest and see it as their personal property to passive aggressively defend until the end.........there's so many 😂

Everybody, and everything at airports annoys me!

yes x 100

Mumof3girks · 17/04/2023 01:59

Probably as there is a chance of your checked bag not arriving. I would put all my clothes and medication (which would prob take up 1/4 of my case) in a hand luggage case. That way I have it all. Anyway who needs 23kg for a week!

Everyone standing up the moment the plane stops moving.

I stand up as soon as the plane stops, not because I think I’ll get off any earlier but because I have sciatica and I’ve usually spent the last couple of hours in fucking agony!

Absolutely! I'll patiently wait for all the rows in front to clear before I try to leave the plane, I'm not being an arsehole trying to push in or anything.

But I stand up ASAP, even if I'm in the window and have to stoop to avoid banging my head, to get the creaks out of my joints before I have to walk!

ChimneyPot · 17/04/2023 03:00

I really dislike cancelled flights, serious delays and very drunk people especially if they are vomiting.
I am irritated by people whose music, game, movie is audible to others.
I am sure I probably annoy others.
I do hand luggage only if at all possible. Too many experiences of lost luggage.
I put my coat in the overhead even if the announcement asked me not to, though it is usually in my hand luggage.
I like to board early to put my luggage as close to my seat as possible.
I will also ensure my arm rest is down preferably before the person beside be arrives. One experience of sitting beside someone too large to allow the armrest down for 11 hours was one experience too many. It was a health and safety risk and I won’t do it again.
I put my seat back without warning those behind but not during food service.

Agree with @Getabloominmoveon Air travel can be very stressful if you let it. I just look at the other morons and enjoy wondering how they can be so thick, selfish, slow, etc. There is no point getting annoyed, or wondering how Ms. Chancer got her mahoosive underseat bag on board, or how.... oh hell there are so many things. I can't change them.

As long as I am ok and organised myself, the rest of the human race can annoy someone else. Hell really is other people though!

This. Just when you think you have seen the most idiotic thing, someone tops it. I just read my book and drink wine.

Bagsundermyeyestoday · 17/04/2023 05:18

People who start queuing up before the plane is even ready to board!!! 🤯

Elpresidentedela14 · 17/04/2023 05:26

I can't believe no one has mentioned people boarding with shoulder bags or backpacks slung on their shoulder, banging them in the face of every passenger already sitting in the aisle seat! Hold it in front of you! Oh, and my DH that gets into a trance as soon as we hit duty-free and has to check every item/shop. I just want to find a quiet corner to wait...

Milksheikha · 17/04/2023 05:34

Nanatokidsdogshampsters
I am pretty sure there are safety issues in flying people who don't fit in seats.
They were boarded last and I'd have thought if the flight wasn't full given a exit or extra seat. As it was I was literally sharing mine. The passemgers arm, leg and bum blubber was spilling over half of my space. Thank goodness it was only a 2 hour flight .

StrawHatOnTheParcelShelf · 17/04/2023 06:42

Oh and when you need to get up mid flight, if you are physically capable of doing so please push yourself out of your chair using the armrests rather than yanking yourself up using the headrest (and a clump of hair) of the snoozing person in front.

SouthCountryGirl · 17/04/2023 07:25

When you're sat waiting for the plane and someone's child won't leave you alone. And the parent does nothing

BlackberrySky · 17/04/2023 07:40

I think most people on here could do with a massive chill pill and a dose of tolerance.

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/04/2023 07:51

Drinking. Completely unnecessary and the behaviour of those who had been drinking was appalling on a flight I was on last week. Shouting across the plane to mates they hadn't paid to sit near, every other word a swear word, standing up and walking around when fasten seat belt signs on, including during take off, shouting/talking loudly when crew were trying to carry out safety briefing. The flight was at 7.15am. Had anything gone wrong on the plane I dread to think what would have happened.

These arseholes have no regard for anyone else. Their right to down 6 JDs and coke/multiple pints before 7 in the morning overrides everything else.

Makewayforsummer · 17/04/2023 07:53

JudgeRudy · 16/04/2023 22:39

There's blissfully unaware/ignorant sods who do this but it isn't always practical to get these things out and ready in a moving queue. It's hard to carry a cabin bag, handluggage, maybe a coat plus a laptop, phone etc ....add a child and its even harder. Not everyone has 1 rucksack and handy pockets.

Then organise them before you leave the house. I have young children and I think it’s even more important to be organised so I don’t have to worry about trying to sort my bag and stop a toddler wandering off at the same time.

Philadelfina · 17/04/2023 08:11

Busy departure lounge with nowhere to sit because of people lying across several seats, or adults with a seat or two between them and the kids for their stuff or just to spread out.

The coughing. Everywhere. Without covering mouth. Near or next to you on the plane or stood close in the airport.

Back of seat being kicked.

This.
The bars shouldn’t open until Noon ( if I have to pick a time, Noon it is ).

Boarding manners, get to your row, take glance behind you, if there’s anyone there, STEP INTO YOUR ROW, bags(on your seat), and let them past.
Put your bags up quickly. Sit down.

ah, that feels better.

Manchester Airport is indeed the worst. And just gets even poorer year on year; it’s sort of astounding.

The transport drop off/pick up is astonishingly bad. I think the worst I’ve ever encountered and I have been through so many airports around the world.

Agreed.

It's awful. Security is full of staff yelling at travellers. I put my head down and try and get through as quick as I can.

notimagain · 17/04/2023 08:37

@tanstaafl

The bars shouldn’t open until Noon

Just bars or are you saying no alcohol at all before Noon?.

At many major airports no alcohol until Noon would penalises those connecting passengers who want a drink with what for them is tea or evening meal (I tried explaining the reasoning for this upthread), it also stops those who are travelling home having been on a night shift having a quiet shandy with their full fry before traveling home.🤐

In any event closing bars until Noon won't stop those on PM or evening flights pre-loading before boarding..

There's already legislation/bye laws in place that can be used to curb bad behaviour caused by excess drinking.

rookiemere · 17/04/2023 08:37

Oh yes talking of drunk people, we once got an early morning flight for a Ladies weekend away.

There were a bunch of lads in their 20s who had driven overnight from far up North to get the plane. Some of them were absolutely paralytic as they had been drinking the whole trip. One beside my friend fell asleep and then threw up over himself ( thankfully not her). It was utterly revolting- cabin crew should have more rights to remove obviously inebriated passengers.

Hand luggage is my bugbear, I don't mean on short haul flights or those frequented by business travellers going to meetings for a couple of nights - I mean on flights where everyone has a 23kg checked luggage allowance . Why bring so much on board, what do you need for 7 hours??? Or even 4 hours in the case of TUI flights (free hold luggage was included with everyone's flight!) I carry a mid sized handbag on board, big enough for my passport, phone, book and a snack, it sits under the chair in front easily.

I pay for a cabin bag, of the permitted size, to go in the overhead locker and that is all I take.

I don't want to put a bag in the hold because I have had suitcases not turn up twice at Heathrow and once at Manchester. DS's pushchair didn't turn up at Geneva. So basically I don't trust the buggers.

christmastreefarm · 17/04/2023 09:11

Read this thread while I was waiting to board. Just landed and they have told us very firmly they are disembarking 5 rows at a time and everyone else is to sit down...and repeat agin repeat we are telling you for the 3rd time.....sit down!

Oooh, you’ve got me started now. Definitely this, especially when we’ve got an horribly early flight!

Yes, we’re all sleepy/tired and didn’t really want to get up at 3am either but what gives someone the right to stretch out over several seats and catch up their shuteye when there isn’t even enough seats for others just to sit down for 10 minutes to try and have a quick rest in a busy airport? 😡

I always secretly hope that these seat lice will fall deeply asleep and miss their flight.
