I’ve had a couple and not bothered again. Both times I’ve just got sandwiches (once from costa, once from a bakery). I have a friend who seems much luckier though and got a good supermarket one with lots of fruit, veg, bread and a bakery one with cakes, pastries and the inevitable sandwiches.

Stepbystep100 · 11/04/2023 15:16

Yes we often do them

A local Costa which are mainly un sold savouries which are often the vegan bacon rolls, vegetarian options and pastries. The value of £12 full price is about the level we get.

A local bakery which we get unsold loaves, which we freeze, and cakes which we eat. This is a fab box but there's only so much of their produce you need so we don't do it too often. Their value is supposed to be £12 at full price but its usually a lot more

ScottBakula · 11/04/2023 15:17

I use it off and on , sometimes you can get some really good deals , otherwise times you get food that past its best like brown lettuce, bruised fruit.

A lot seems to depend on the time and shop you go too.

Make sure you have your code ready to show them when you get to the counter.

I've had a few and generally had good results. Morrisons I got 5 loaves, pack of bagels, naan breads, pack of rolls and pack of wraps which is great as I have plenty of freezer space. Co-op a mix of bread, eggs, veg and cooked meat. Greggs was great if very unhealthy 😁 Donuts, yum yum, sausage rolls, cookies and two filled baguettes. Worst was probably Starbucks as it was just thrown in and half squashed - depends on the store I guess.

RoseDog · 11/04/2023 15:21

Greggs and aldi are usually great and worth it, Starbucks used to be good for us but now it's mostly vegan breakfast stuff. Local independent places are usually quite good too.

PorridgeMonster1 · 11/04/2023 15:21

only done this once at Starbucks, think I paid about £3.50 and for this I got a sandwich, a panini, a muffin, a croissant and something random like a packet of trail mix (can’t remember exactly). So I mean good value considering a sandwich alone in Starbucks is probably about £4.

ModerationInEverything · 11/04/2023 15:24

We get a Morrisons one sometimes but recently it's been mainly bread, crisps and shelf stable produce which had the multi pack opened. It used to be much more salad, soft fruit and it was lovely.
I find it better value now to go to Lidl early and get one of their veg boxes. £1.50 and you can choose which box suits you best. The last one had onions, potatoes, mushrooms, green beans, a few carrots, a million parsnips, almost whole box of grapes and raspberries, spring onions and pak choi. Total bargain. Nothing really squishy, more damaged packaging or ends of big boxes. So I guess it totally depends what you fancy.

HelpsHeal · 11/04/2023 15:24

Adult DS does them a lot. He treats it as a bit of fun, like getting a lottery ticket. They're always a good deal, if you're going to use everything, but I'm afraid a lot of it sits in my fridge until I throw it away.

If they were "mine" I'd freeze/cook more on the day but it gets left because it doesn't belong to me!

CeriB82 · 11/04/2023 15:25

Oh its greggs im going to! Teenage son is excited though, loves greggs!

thanks about the tip about the code at the ready!

ill update when i get home!

DC at university get really good things, DS got two fillet steaks and a whole chicken once and DD's flat mates regularly get loads of amazing bakery stuff.
The choice here is pretty poor, my friend got something ridiculous like 8 egg sandwiches, some vegan sandwiches sand a load of stale pastries from Starbucks or Costa I forget which.

Shannith · 11/04/2023 15:30

Greggs are good. Been totally underwhelmed most of the others.

2PintsOfCidernaBagofCrisps · 11/04/2023 15:31

I've had a couple. Got a Starbucks one which was a about 3 sandwiches and a bag of crisps. I was disappointed not to get even one cake or pastry but that's the luck of the draw.

I got an Ikea one once and that was amazing. I got meatballs, mashed potato, chicken in gravy, salmon and some little potato things. For £4 it was great and did my DH a big lunch the next day even after I'd scoffed at loads of it.

HarrietSchulenberg · 11/04/2023 15:33

I wasn't impressed with the Greggs bag I got. I had a steak slice, a ham sandwich, 3 sausage and bean pasties and 2 cookies, and apart from the cookies there was nothing in there that I liked. My DS gets much better things from his local one.

OldTinHat · 11/04/2023 15:34

I've bought loads of them! Morrisons (supermarket, not cafe) is the best. Coop and Costa are a bit disappointing. Local independents are great.

Yes, just ask at the checkout for one.

Changingmynameyetagain · 11/04/2023 15:40

I’ve had some great ones and a few terrible ones.
I got an Aldi one a couple of months ago and it had a shoulder of lamb in it, and another time I’ve had 3 packs of Camembert and 4 packs of Brie.
Starbucks is always pretty disappointing so I don’t bother anymore but greggs and pound bakery are usually decent.
I once got a Morrison’s box and it had 6 cauliflowers!

CeriB82 · 11/04/2023 15:40

As im rural im rather limited. Greggs/Morrisons/spar are my shops greggs is 30 mins drive but its somewhere to take DS!

Starbucks - horrible vegan breakfast stuff, most went in the bin. Sushi place - really good, lots of food for the money. Occasionally Kristy Kreme doughnuts (which are posted approximately 10 minutes before they go). Pret breakfast - usually a couple of the breakfast croissants and a couple of pots of porridge.

I got one from carluccucios once. It was a selection of biscuits, all past their best before dates. That was not what the description said to expect. I’ve noticed that the description has now changed to ‘packaged treats past their best before dates’.

The local hotel does one - full English for £3.50 (although it has now gone up to £5.00).

edwinbear · 11/04/2023 15:52

I'm up to 148 bags now - we've had mainly good ones, a few I've not bothered with again but overall good value.

Greggs are always good, our local Boulangerie Jade is amazing, Aldi, the local Nisa, Starbucks, the bakery Paul and Wasabi for sushi are reliably good. Oh and Krispy Kreme are a hit with DC.

I wasn't so impressed with a couple of local bakeries, where it was just 2-3 cakes, still advertised value but we just don't eat so much cake as a family. Costa can be a bit hit or miss and the sushi concession in our local Sainsburys wasn't great.

I think generally, you need to be fairly relaxed about what you eat and creative as a cook for it to work. I think it might also be hard if you have food allergies/intolerances, but personally, it works well for us. We are in London though so lots of choice.

postapesto · 11/04/2023 16:02

I've had a couple of dodgy ones but some great. My fave is a posh supermarket near work where I usually get sandwiches and expensive doughnuts....added up the full price value of one recent one and it was about 50 quid, paid 5.99 for it.

RJ57 · 11/04/2023 16:04

I've had one and it was a bit naff to be honest. One sausage roll and two old sandwiches for £4 but supposedly £12 value. Had I not been passing by the place and seen the offer, I'd have been unhappy.

RedSmartie · 11/04/2023 16:10

I got rid of the app because everything on it was either miles away, or if local, always sold out.
I was under the impression that it was leftovers at the end of the trading day that they were selling off, yet such as Gregg's were telling me on the app that the goodie bags were sold out at 09.30 that morning!
It was a waste of time.

AllAboutMargot · 11/04/2023 16:14

We had one just this morning from a chain gastropub type place. Supposed to be vegetarian breakfast but there was bacon, sausage and black pudding thrown in amongst the soggy hash browns and beans. It was awful and we threw it away. My DH isn't fully veggie but even he baulks at black pudding!

When I got there to pick it up I was told I was too early (I wasn't). They said to follow them to the servery then when I got there told me again I was too early (again, I wasn't!) and to go and sit down and wait. Got it wenty minutes later (and outside the allocated pick up time).

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 11/04/2023 16:17

I’m intrigued. I’ve never done one, though I love a bargain and yellow sticker.
