We've got very limited supplies locally, but I've just ordered my very first one - from a posh local Italian grocery & deli. For £4 I'm very hopeful! May contain "cheeses, cured meats, artisan breads, dried produce, sauces etc" apparently. I'll update tmrw!

MojoJojo71 · 11/04/2023 21:40

@Supergirl1958 yours sounds awesome. I think I need to try to get one from the big Morrisons. Our little local one doesn’t have much fruit and veg at the best of times

BlueJellycat · 11/04/2023 21:44

Unless it's Greg's I have been under impressed.

Cheese from a deli?! Sounds promising!

@Supergirl1958 that's,a great bag.
I am jealous of those that can get Aldi and Greg's bags I have both only a 10 min walk from home but they are not on the scheme.

I think the worst ones I have had are from Upper Crust, 3 very dried out pasties and James Martin kitchen 2 baguettes and 2 cakes , one of the baguettes was brie salad, I love brie so thought I'd hit the jackpot but on checking the whole sandwich was just the very tips and the rind/ last slice so the whole thing was all rind and bog all cheese with just rocket and 2 slices of yellow pepper .

The best one was a last minute decision to get a veggie Burrito , I was on time but they were not ready , I was happy to wait . So as compensation they also gave me a box of salad stuff it was huge box like a big ice cream tub. ( I still use the tub to store food in when I have batch cooked ! )
As I said up thread , some bad some good 😋

That sounds promising , don't get your hopes up to high though it really is hit and miss.
Don't forget to update us tomorrow

I got rid of the app because everything on it was either miles away, or if local, always sold out.
I was under the impression that it was leftovers at the end of the trading day that they were selling off, yet such as Gregg's were telling me on the app that the goodie bags were sold out at 09.30 that morning!
It was a waste of time.

I just got the app and looked. Our local M&S food place was sold out at 7:30am!

shieldmaiden7 · 11/04/2023 22:17

Did it today from Rowes bakery. I had 7 items, last time I had 6. We love them!

Madcats · 11/04/2023 22:17

I always get prompted to review my TGTG purchases and say what I was given. I suppose they ask for this in case someone gets a duff bag.

There is a massive variation in quality/quantity (and I did get my order cancelled by a deli once when they ran low on stock).

JTro · 11/04/2023 23:21

Is that pissible to read reviews there somehow? I downloded the app, but can't figure out how to read reviews

jarviscockatiel · 12/04/2023 01:56

We usually get one every school holiday from the local Waitrose petrol station. It costs £5 but we've never had less than £30 of food in the bag. There's always been nice bread and/or cakes, posh ready meals, some fruit and vegetables and often fresh meat too. Not saying the exact location as don't want everyone hurrying there. 😂

It isn't a review that you leave really. You give a star rating and then tick from a preset selection what positives stood out the most for you. Then you list what you got in the bag. Other than the average stars and the things people selected the most about the bags, you can't read any of this. Being able to read what others got is pointless as every bag is different and some people already have silly expectations.
You can join the Too Good To Go group on Facebook, but to be honest, it's full of people complaining that they don't like vegan food or carrots or sandwiches so how dare x, y, z company include these things 🙄

JTro · 12/04/2023 09:09

DelilahBucket I checked reviews of this app on Trustpilot and to be honest it looks dreadful as many people complain about cancelled orders last minutes and not getting refunds.

Not had anybody those issues myself.

Guiltypleasures001 · 12/04/2023 12:12

Never not had a refund

GingerAle1 · 12/04/2023 12:27

I hadn't heard of this

is there a way to check it's in your area without downloading the app, my phone is groaning with them!

SedentaryCat · 12/04/2023 12:37

We don't have many places on the app at the moment but the Greggs ones are always very good. The Starbucks ones tend to just be sandwiches so we don't bother. Aldi have just started their bags here and they don't always have anything to give away - or I miss the very tight timeslot that they offer them in!

The local Polish supermarket was interesting but we won't do it again due to lots of out of date stuff, some of which was mouldy.

We had steak from the Co-op along with all sorts of stuff from the bakery, plus fruit and veg. This was probably the best value one we've had. Hopefully more people will come on board as it's a great way to reduce waste.

No it’s all on app. You could add it and delete if nothing near you. Lots of chains are on. Unless you are very rural you should have something.

Dixiechickonhols · 12/04/2023 12:50

I’ve had cancelled but always refunded.
It’s obviously hit and miss what you get but that’s part of appeal the surprise element.

Not sure what you're looking at. The app is useful. I've used it quite a few times local and when we've been out and about. Any cancellations have been refunded straight away.
There are obviously people leaving bad reviews but that's mainly because they haven't understood that the food is always going to be the items just before best before dates and will be a random selection of whatever is left at the end of the day. - it's like the reviews on a 3 hotel when people are expecting 5.

TragicMuse · 12/04/2023 13:00

Yo Sushi used to be amazing, it sells out really fast but isn't as good now imho.

It can vary really widely. My local Costa only ever has one or two slots and they're almost never available. The one time I got it they were tipping trays of croissant into my bag! I think I got about £30 worth of bakery products!

The opposite end of the spectrum was 3 rather sad sandwiches at Leeds Station. Not awful but not particularly great!

But Gregg's is generally good for us - sausage rolls and doughnuts are always popular with the teen. Pret isn't too bad either.

I love the app and seeing the options.

TragicMuse · 12/04/2023 13:02

To add, I've been using it for YEARS and never not had a refund for a cancelled order.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 12/04/2023 13:57

If I reserve a bakery bag I will call and ask if they can do vegetarian or vegan. No one has refused yet.

You can also cancel 2 hours before pick up for a full refund. .

LostAtTheCrossRoad · 12/04/2023 17:07

Well I got my Italian deli bag - two nice focaccia deli sandwiches with Parma ham, mozzarella and tomato, and a huge pot of olives. We hate olives but I knew that would be the risk, I'll give it to a friend who adores them. I'll have one of the sandwiches for dinner tonight and the other for lunch tmrw. I'm a teeny bit disappointed there wasn't any deli meats or fresh pasta but them's the breaks!

Shhhquirrel · 12/04/2023 17:15

I paid for one at Morrisons, went to pick
it up and they said they’d run out, waste of time and money getting there. Won’t use the app again.
