I've found them to be a bit shit tbh. Have had 3 and gave up.

1st one had tonnes of cooking apples in it so had to batch cook up a vat to freeze.

2nd one had 8 bags of pre prepared salad with a use by date of the next day, plus some bananas and avocados. We ate the salad for about 4 days after the use by date cos I hate throwing stuff away.

3rd one was the best one but again, not a good mix. Got 6 lots of lovely decorated muffins (12 in total)

OhmygodDont · 12/04/2023 17:29

You just have to find your good ones

Morrisons - poop
cash and carry - poop
greggs - fabulous
aldi - fabulous
local Chinese - fabulous
Toby breakfast - was a good amount but they covered everything in the beans and toms and I don’t like beans so it went in the bin.

Yes sometimes they can cancelled but you always get your money back or rather it removes the hold they place on it. So you don’t see it go back in because it never left.

We do one a week and treat it as Pp said like a sort of lotto-the best one we had was a local bakery one-£4 for two loaves of posh bread, 6 hot cross buns, 4 cupcakes, and 3 chelsea buns. We also had a great one from M and S once that had a few ready meals, lots of fruit, and a whole cake.
Greggs would be the holy grail I think-But is ALWAYS sold out near us.

Had a fair few, some much better than others. It’s very hit and miss but that’s to be expected, just luck of the draw. Had some amazing ones filled with lots of goodies but also really shit ones where we’ve barely been able to eat any of it.

magicstar1 · 12/04/2023 17:58

I’ve had a few great ones.
Aldi gave me a roast in the bag chicken, broccoli, carrots, parsnips, asparagus, hot smoked salmon, bread rolls and blueberries for €3.99.

tommika · 12/04/2023 18:44

I’ve had mostly good results.
It must be understood that you are getting things that would otherwise be binned, ‘use by’ dates will be the day of pick up or the next day.

My favourite was breakfast buffets at a local hotel (White Hart in Salisbury) which came to an end under Covid (they changed from buffet to room service, and haven’t brought back the app)

My worst was a direct contrast between two ‘motels’ in Southampton (Ibis & Novotel) the Ibis was definately ‘budget’

In the attached pictures we have:

Ibis - the bag was pre packed with two dried up breads and an apple

Novotel - the two takeaway containers, I was due one but given two, so had one as breakfast and the other as pastries etc

White Hart - Also with a takeaway container, but the pictures are their buffet.
If you arrive at the beginning of the collection time slot you would see the chef still stocking up the buffet hot plate right up to the end of their resident breakfast times

Residents would still be at their tables, but as a too good to go user you should be taking away
(Don’t count on getting disposable cutlery)

My local-ish Cafe Nero has started doing "sweet and pastry" bags which are great as I'm veggie and ended up with 3 x meat sandwiches the last time I did a regular bag. £2.59 and I got 2 x croissants, 2 x pastries and 3 x cheesecake slices.

Cotswoldmama · 12/04/2023 19:02

I've bought a few. Greggs is the best they are always good. Costa are rubbish! Coffee #1 nearly as good as greggs. I've had a few coop ones and they're hit and miss. Top tip if collection is between say 5.30-6 go as close to 6 as you can as the might have extra stuff to get rid of before they close and they'll put it in the bags rather than throw it out.

RoseDog · 12/04/2023 19:05

Ds is away to pick up a Costa bag, we've never had a Costa bag and this seems to be the first time this Costa has done it so we are a little scared but he's got a local bakery one for tomorrow and that should be good!

charliegirl86 · 12/04/2023 19:06

Love it! Costa and Greggs are always good. Had carvery from a pub a couple of times. Also had a bagel bag from a bagel shop. It was vegetarian that I ordered but there was a salmon cream cheese and a tuna bagel in it plus some others. I complained on the app that they weren't vegetarian so I got a refund easily for that one

OhmygodDont · 12/04/2023 19:06

In our aldi boxes we have had anything from flowers, mince, organic corn fed chicken, sushi, fruit and veg, pizzas, crepes, cheese, whole curries, meaty wraps and sandwiches, yoghurts and crisps.

Sometimes it don’t even a bad date dh has watched them go around and rip open packages to put crisps in the boxes kinda thing to bulk them even more.

We have three local aldis on there and two of them are better than others.

compared to Morrisons we tried a couple of times. Bread, bread rolls, fruit going off, a mini mayo, bag of potatoes.

Dixiechickonhols · 12/04/2023 19:40

Got 2 Greggs for tomorrow, thread reminded me to check.

CrotchetyQuaver · 12/04/2023 20:13

It's pretty rubbish in my area, usually only a vegetarian carvery on offer and that's nearly 10 miles away. Today there are also triple baked chocolate biscotti biscuits on offer for £9 reduced from £26. I hope you get a huge sackful for that price
I only did it once, ordered and paid then turned up at Costa the following evening as arranged. They had no knowledge of my order until I showed them my email.

CheeseLouisePlease · 13/04/2023 10:44

I’ve ordered a Morrisons box for tonight, first in a year. Let’s see how dreadful it is!

Just collected our bag from Greggs-
1 x chicken and bacon pasta
1 x Mexican chicken filled oval roll

2 x hot pastries (TBC as to what they are)
2 x filles donuts
1 x iced ring donut
1 x Belgium bun

For £2.95 I'm more than happy.

That’s great. Our Greggs was disappointing compared to usual. We got 2 bags £2.95 x 2 and got
2 ham and cheese baguettes
1 oval tuna roll
Egg sandwich
Tuna sandwich
2 pasties (? Vegan)

Nothing sweet would usually have a donut and sausage roll too.

How did you know the pasties were vegan?
I agree that wasn't a great bounty ☹️
It is always such a chance.

dizzygirl1 greggs pasty's all have a different pattern on top for the different fillings.

Thanks, just looked at their site. It looks like they are sausage, beans and cheese melts (wish they were vegan but its ok).

CheeseLouisePlease · 13/04/2023 18:13

I got my bag. It’s very average and only about £7 worth of stuff.
Its veg, some pears, some crumpets and hot dog buns.
I think they should have stuck something else in, even for variety. I’ve found that they only put in fruit and veg and bread products.

Bag said vegan but I’ll check pattern that’s a good tip.

The bag on our pastries said about their vegan range but they look like they have stripes on the top

ClassicLib · 13/04/2023 18:26

Bags vary, as you would expect. I have had amazing bags from supermarket convenience stores which were full of posh ready meals & desserts, yummy salads, nice sausages, chicken breasts etc.
I have also had bags from Starbucks containing a few stale, inedible vegan rubbish that nobody wanted to buy & which ended up in the bin.
