I want to live by the sea

Any suggestions please.? Id like somewhere with beautiful views and country walks.
Not too remote. I can work remotely so dont have to worry about a commute. Ideally I'd like a 3-4 bed house. I can spend 350-400 k

Formby, Merseyside.
Beautiful beach, sand dunes, pine woods and a high street packed with cafes. And a short drive/train ride into Liverpool when you want a city.

I’ve just done that!
Sold my house that was central England and bought a stunning 4 storey Victorian 5 bed terrace house with sea views for £150k in Cumbria!
2 mins walk to the beach, lovely local community and a train service direct to Carlisle which then takes you either up or down the country and easy access out into the M6.
And the Lake District on the doorstep too - as much hiking as anyone could dream of! 😍

Do you mind me asking where in Cumbria? That sounds incredible!

I live in south wales, 35 mins outside of Cardiff. Good transport links (trains to Cardiff and beyond, 15 mins from m4 motorway), lots of lovely beaches close by, not far from the Brecons...magical

It's the Beacons not the Brecons btw 😬

I type this looking out at the sea from my house. My house overlooks a blue flag beach, and the whole bay is beautiful tbh. Sometimes I forget how lovely it is to look out of the window at boats and flocks of geese. We are in the South West and it is not cheap, but I like the view. Where-ever you buy, factor in the tourist season and your reach from essential services. The local tourist supermarket where I am charges double or triple what a city supermarket would for some basic items. Beaches usually attract holiday makers in Spring and Summer. I live in a holiday area, and there are huge crowds in the summer, but it is very quiet in the winter. I don't mind that as my house has a large driveway and we are off the road so don't notice so much, but it can get noisy and the traffic can be problematic on hot days.

Came to say the same.

We have a beach on our doorstep but at times it is inaccessible. I wouldn’t change it though. The positives far outweigh the negatives.

Me tooo!!!! 🌊🌊🌊

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 11/04/2023 19:21

Just don’t go to Skegness OP. Lived there for years…it’s a fucking hole in the winter.

SandLResources · 11/04/2023 19:38

Ignore those who say the Wirral. Gangs of feral rat "children" have taken over to the point that there are constant, non-effective dispersal zones in place and now there are areas that buses no longer run through after a certain time.

CurlewKate · 11/04/2023 19:41

Has anyone suggested Folkestone?

Harrington, but I’d also recommend Whitehaven, St Bees, Allonby, Silloth, Cockermouth too.

Ginmonkeyagain · 12/04/2023 07:41

Christ Almighty don't move to Jaywick!

vera99 · 12/04/2023 08:34

Poor old Jaywick they get loads of filmmakers around the world visiting. If it wasn't so deprived it would actually be quite nice with a great beach.

AllIeveknewonlyou · 12/04/2023 08:46

Sounds like a great plan. I am inland city but have access to a couple of coastal houses (friend/relative) so enjoy escaping and seeing the sea and going for works.

Others have made good points about access to services. I like being near a hospital and supermarket and need good Internet access.

AllIeveknewonlyou · 12/04/2023 08:46

Wish there was an edit button!

Whitehaven is very deprived.

In Bridlington you can get a decent house for your money 10 mins from the sea. For a sea view from your window, as in a stone's throw of being on the beach you can think £650-700k at least. Beautiful long sandy beach in Bridlington and historic harbour.

I'm feeling so envious of you. I was brought up in South West close to the beach. DH brought up in Bridlington. Now both living and working in the West Midlands which was a compromise between our 2 sets of parents. My parents are both dead now and DH only has his Mum left but we are trapped in the Midlands. We both love the beach. Our compromise is a holiday home in Brittany about 5 mins from port, 20 mins from the beach and 5 mins from National Forest.

This is a 3 min walk to one of top beaches in the country. Bridlington.

Looks like a beautiful house to, lovely hall.

Another house 3 minutes from the beach and with a sea view, albeit between houses. Cardigan is a good road and this is at best end nearest to the beach. Bridlington has 2 beaches but the South beach is the best one.

I'm leaving the thread now, as I'm becoming too invested and desperately jealous. I'm going to ask my dh again if we can move to the coast. Good luck on finding somewhere tranquil and special.

What are your DH objections? Are there work/children factors?

I have a choice coming up about moving so it crossed my mind about coast or city. I have a few months to decide.

Ishouldbeoutside · 12/04/2023 11:26

I want to live by the sea too. Thinking of possibly East Sussex and it’s near family. Or Hampshire.

Member869894 · 12/04/2023 11:28

Thank you everyone got your suggestions. I need to get my house ready for sale. Which is a whole other thread !😊

My house is about 60m from the sea with lots of countryside around too.
NE Scotland but in a fairly sheltered area so rarely gets that cold or snowy.
Houses currently selling in under 2 weeks but for over the asking price,

Thelittlekingdom · 12/04/2023 11:36

@caringcarer, I’m in a similar boat but with kids in three different schools (2 have special needs) the uproot would be so hard. I’d definitely have a chat with your DH and see whether you can make the move. I’ve told my DH that when the kids have finished their education, I need to move.
