I want to live by the sea

Member869894 · 10/04/2023 17:49

Any suggestions please.? Id like somewhere with beautiful views and country walks.
Not too remote. I can work remotely so dont have to worry about a commute. Ideally I'd like a 3-4 bed house. I can spend 350-400 k

I live overlooking the sea. Never tire of looking at the view. I can watch dolphins from my living room. Hills and a waterfall behind the house. It's heaven for me.

If you have the opportunity, go for it.

Custardbanana · 10/04/2023 19:42

Do you want sun rises or sunsets?

BeeBB · 10/04/2023 19:42

@Whisper23 that sounds my idea of absolute heaven. Whereabouts roughly do you live in the world?

The most wonderful area. Rye is utterly charming

@sidee only if you are a male over 60! that's the "home for life" price - real price for people who want to own, not lease, would be double that!

Hedjwitch · 10/04/2023 19:45

I would do it tomorrow if I could afford it. But I'm going remote. Orkney for me

Isle of Skye.

I type this looking out at the sea from my house. My house overlooks a blue flag beach, and the whole bay is beautiful tbh. Sometimes I forget how lovely it is to look out of the window at boats and flocks of geese. We are in the South West and it is not cheap, but I like the view. Where-ever you buy, factor in the tourist season and your reach from essential services. The local tourist supermarket where I am charges double or triple what a city supermarket would for some basic items. Beaches usually attract holiday makers in Spring and Summer. I live in a holiday area, and there are huge crowds in the summer, but it is very quiet in the winter. I don't mind that as my house has a large driveway and we are off the road so don't notice so much, but it can get noisy and the traffic can be problematic on hot days.

Northumberland. Lived there for 13 yrs. Coast & countryside, stunning.

Redebs · 10/04/2023 19:48

One of my children moved to the seaside and I go over to provide care for my grandchild. I still find it very exciting and would love to live there myself, in fact I think everyone should live by the sea! 🤣

cruisingwater · 10/04/2023 19:48

I live about 150m walk from the sea can see it after 50ml.
South coast - Portsmouth (thereabouts & not in the city) - great climate and good for employment.
You will however be pushed to get a 3-4 bed for under £500k but there may be some options.
I wouldn't move now live by the sea, it's amazing.

North Wales is full of Scousers

How incredibly ill mannered. Dreadful thing to say.

OK, please yourself.

Have you even been to Hunstanton BTW, there's nothing to recommend it - unless you like seal-watching ?

UsingChangeofName · 10/04/2023 20:07

So many places in Wales.

I love Anglesey.

However, if you are wfh, you would also need to check broadband or other internet connection.
I've been to many beautiful places in Wales where the scenery is gorgeous but phone signal and internet connection not consistent enough to wfh.

Aweebitpainful · 10/04/2023 20:09

Me too OP

I'm in West Sussex. Beach at the end of my road, South Downs a 5-minute drive away. Expensive but lovely.

Thinkingofthings · 10/04/2023 20:35

Norfolk! I live by the sea and I LOVE it. I grew up here, moved to London for 20 years but the pull of the sea brought me back. In the summer you feel like you are on holiday.
Winter can be bleak at times. But there is beauty in the bleakness of the beach in winter. You'd definitely get a 3-4 bed house here for that price. However some areas of norfolk are more pricey. Personally I'd avoid Great Yarmouth and Hunstanton though.

Greenfairydust · 10/04/2023 20:55

I live in Deal, Kent. Pretty little seaside town.

Sandwich, Broadstairs and Whistable are also very nice.

I also spend a lot time in Margate, Ramsgate and Folkestone. Not always popular towns on this forum but they have a lot going for them. Great art scene and restaurants for example.

Leigh on Sea in Essex has a really nice high St and is convenient for commuting to London.

Before I moved to Deal I was thinking of moving to Scotland. I was looking at Troon, Dunbar and various places in Fife. Looked very nice too! In the end I had to stay in the South East for work reasons, but still considering moving to Scotland one day maybe when I fully retire.

Y'all hating on Hunstanton tonight! 😆

AnythingToSay · 10/04/2023 19:20

@Powderandpaint this cracked me up. Assuming it's not a piss-take, where's the sea in Glasgow?

Glasgow in on the Clyde which is tidal, How do you think they launched ships from there?

Most beaches are about 25 miles from Glasgow such as Lunderston Bay.

Newusernameaug · 10/04/2023 21:12

I’ve just done that!
Sold my house that was central England and bought a stunning 4 storey Victorian 5 bed terrace house with sea views for £150k in Cumbria!
2 mins walk to the beach, lovely local community and a train service direct to Carlisle which then takes you either up or down the country and easy access out into the M6.
And the Lake District on the doorstep too - as much hiking as anyone could dream of! 😍

warmmfeet · 10/04/2023 21:23

Dorset! The Jurassic coast is just amazing. Purbeck, Weymouth, Swanage, Bridport. West Bay. Loads of fantastic walks and the sea is so beautiful and blue. Elsewhere I've lived it seemed more brown. Yes there are a fair few pensioners but we also have seals and dolphins!

slowquickstep · 10/04/2023 21:25

If i had to live in England it would be between Berwick upon Tweed and New Biggin

LaurieFairyCake · 10/04/2023 21:41

So many horrible places named on this thread (that I've had accidental holidays in) 😂
