I want to live by the sea

Member869894 · 10/04/2023 17:49

Any suggestions please.? Id like somewhere with beautiful views and country walks.
Not too remote. I can work remotely so dont have to worry about a commute. Ideally I'd like a 3-4 bed house. I can spend 350-400 k

@Member869894 think we should all move there.

Callywhoknows · 11/04/2023 16:19

Folkestone? Recently voted one of the Sunday Times top places to live in the UK, and sandwiched between the sea and the North Downs. Houses in East Folkestone would be in your budget with easy access to walks around The Warren (beach and cliff top walks), and walking distance to the sunny sands beach and the harbour area.

13Bastards · 11/04/2023 16:21

South coast here, you would easily get a house in your budget. I am at the sea in 10 mins walking, and could drive 15-20 mins and be in the countryside.

The northern part of Sunderland, stretching to South Tyneside, especially Whitburn, near the Souter Point nature reserve and lighthouse.

I’ve just done that!
Sold my house that was central England and bought a stunning 4 storey Victorian 5 bed terrace house with sea views for £150k in Cumbria!
2 mins walk to the beach, lovely local community and a train service direct to Carlisle which then takes you either up or down the country and easy access out into the M6.
And the Lake District on the doorstep too - as much hiking as anyone could dream of! 😍

where are you Newusernameaug?

Im near Workington - so Gateway to the Lakes (from Boat!)
Nice places here are Harrington, White Haven, St Bees, Cockermouth, Allonby, Silloth (too far in the middle of nowhere for me).
Maryport isn’t bad either, lots of nice pubs and community.

Newusernameaug · 11/04/2023 16:45

Here’s a good example in White Haven, 4 bed Georgian Townhouse for £270k!
It doesn’t have a sea view but your moments from the harbour.
I’ve been watching this market for a year now (been house hunting a while) and good sea view properties obviously get snapped up quickly, as does anything with land.

Dh delivers to a supermarket at Workington. I'm at st Bees soon doing some of the C2C walk. Did the full lot a while ago.

Sorryyoufeelthatway · 11/04/2023 17:03

Sussex! Either side has my heart.

EleanorRavenclaw · 11/04/2023 17:09

I was about to say St.Bees. I‘m off there tomorrow for a walk over the cliffs. It’s so lovely but a bit out of the way. Still seem to be some bargain properties compared to the rest of the coastal areas because I look at property porn a lot.

dinkytoon · 11/04/2023 17:13

Just a quick aside the Tories have filled our seas full of shit when we used to have a load of Blue Flag waters before.

This property has a great sea view and lots of character, 50mins to Manchester and the same in the opposite direction to the lakes.

Fleetwood to Manchester in 50 mins?? Never! Amounderness Way is a nightmare for a start!

Just a few words of advice.

The East Coast can cold (very) and the winds from the North Sea can be biting.😟

Hunstanton is a dump.

The West Coat is warmer and wetter.🙂

Glasgow has rain nearly every day.

North Wales is full of Scousers

The South Coast has a better climate but you get a whole load of retired folks. Not a problem in itself unless you require NHS services.

Glasgow is nowhere near the sea ?

midsomermurderess · 11/04/2023 17:44

Glasgow is indeed nowhere near the sea. These is no question (?) about it.

HouseofHolbein · 11/04/2023 17:49

We relocated to north Devon 13 years ago. We live in a town about 2 miles from the coast as it was better for schools and social stuff for the kids. Can walk to the sea in about 45 minutes or obviously drive faster.

Absolutely love it. Can't imagine ever moving back to the midlands 😊

Fleetwood is quite nice if somewhat windswept and a bit grotty inland though with some fine period properties if you want a bit posh but not too expensive go for Cleveleys or St Annes.

Favouritefruits · 11/04/2023 17:53

@motherofawhirlwind Rome to Rio said Fleetwood to Manchester is 58miles but most of its motorway so 50mins

The most wonderful area. Rye is utterly charming

And that’s one of those O-60s lease con properties.

Aka spaff away your kid's inheritance with some greedy financial institution.

👋 Nice to see someone from my neck of the woods! I was just about to suggest somewhere along our coastline!

OP it's lovely around here, I'm more the Allonby/Cockermouth/Silloth side where I think it's abit cheaper than Whitehaven/St Bees etc. The sea being a ten minutes walk away and the lakes/woodlands being a very short drive away. I'd definitely recommend looking to see what's on offer up this way ❤️

My cousin who lived in Brussels for most of his working life wanted to retire back to the UK. He did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that Sheringham was the ideal place which is where he lives now though he quickly discussed himself from talking about Brexit to the locals !
