Do your grown up DCs raid the kitchen cupboards?

Just that.

Do your grown up DCs who’ve fled the nest raid the kitchen cupboards and fridge as soon as they are back visiting “home?”

I hope so. They are at home.

GlassBunion · 08/04/2023 23:03

Hell yeah. I actually stock up for them.

Pantah630 · 08/04/2023 23:03

Yes

MrsDoylesDoily · 08/04/2023 23:05

Yes, but they always ask if it's ok or if I'm saving something for a meal.

Just like they did when they lived here.

HumphreysCorner · 08/04/2023 23:08

Mine haven't left home yet but so hope they do like I still do at my mum and dad's aged 81 and 82.

JimmyDurham · 08/04/2023 23:10

Kitchen cupboards, no. Biscuit barrel OMG yes!!!!

HaggisFace · 08/04/2023 23:11

I don't do this at my parents as its not my home. I'll stick the kettle on and make a coffee but that's about it

TriggeredByGravy · 08/04/2023 23:13

Yes of course! Same as I did at my parents house!

Throwingupinthecenterparcsfootbath · 08/04/2023 23:16

What age grown up kids are we talking here? I can see this being normal for teens/early 20s home from university but a 30/40/50 year old raiding their parents cupboards is a bit weird is it not?

NeverHadANickname · 08/04/2023 23:16

I do at my parents and my step son does here, I am happy he does.

doodleygirl · 08/04/2023 23:17

Yep, and loo rolls

KnickerlessParsons · 08/04/2023 23:18

It's not so much the DDs, it's their boyfriends. I never knew how much young men can eat!

determinedtomakethiswork · 08/04/2023 23:20

How old are the children? Do they have their own homes?

ToHellBackAndBeyond · 08/04/2023 23:23

Yes, they do. I can't with my parents and couldn't when still living at home. I don't want mine to feel like that. Ever.

Marchintospring · 08/04/2023 23:24

Nope. I tell him he can have anything but he always asks first. He’s pretty good with food anyway. Probably seen his mum be a greedy pig and is askance at the prospect of being the same.

Parker231 · 08/04/2023 23:25

Yes - even though they have both left the family home, they know that the door is always open and they continue to raid the fridge and cupboards whenever they visit.

notangelinajolie · 08/04/2023 23:28

Yep. Mainly loo rolls and Heinz Beans. They won't ask but it's probably because they have no money, I did the same. I always make sure they leave fed and with a bag of 'spare' food I don't need.

Isanny · 08/04/2023 23:31

Raid them? No

Treat the place like home? Yes

Pixiedust1234 · 08/04/2023 23:31

Yes. Not only the kitchen cupboards but the secret stash in the bedroom!! Its just like she's a child up to mischief again as she goes really really quiet 😂

RaininSummer · 08/04/2023 23:33

Not unless they are staying with me. When just visiting they would ask and not take things although I don't mind in theory it would be a bit odd I think.

Scutterbug · 08/04/2023 23:34

Yep!

Truestorypeeps · 08/04/2023 23:38

No, I would not as a grown up child visit my parents and proceed to help myself to all their food/food they have bought for us if my visit was expected, as it's usually been bought for a reason. If I'm starving, I will ask if there's something I can eat to 'keep me going'. I think this is polite and was how I was brought up.

Mossstitch · 08/04/2023 23:39

One of my sons who lived nearby used me as his corner shop😂

MaitlandGirl · 08/04/2023 23:40

We’ve got one that’s moved out (DD2) and 2 that still live at home. DD2 heads straight for the pantry when she comes over and it drives me mad.

We’re barely keeping ourself afloat and can’t afford to feed another adult, especially one that has more than twice my income. If she needed food or bathroom bits then of course I’d help her but it’s her attitude that gets me the most. She’ll happily walk on and announce she’s “doing some shopping” as she heads to the cupboard.

whiteroseredrose · 08/04/2023 23:40

Yes. Same as I did with my DM. I was looking for the meaning of life in the fridge, apparently.
