How does your Easter Sunday compare to Easter Sunday in advertising land?

We don't go overboard for Easter, tomorrow we will be at church in the morning followed by an egg hunt at my parents and a roast. The marketing this year seems to have been worse than ever, with images of families feasting akin to Christmas! It all seems so OTT.
We are having roast Welsh Lamb (bought on offer in Aldi) with all the usual trimmings followed by a homemade raspberry cheesecake, the total cost for the food for 6 adults is just under £20 and there will be leftovers. We will have some wine too and that is about £6.00 a bottle.
We make a bit more effort than a normal Sunday but it won't break the bank.
What will you be doing tomorrow?

That sounds lovely but exactly like the advertising you mentioning.

It’s lovely to share plans, but why do people feel the need to include the cost of everything they are planning to eat or do. And the prices and activities get more and more ridiculous as the thread goes on. But with a casual “oh we aren’t doing much much this year” then go on to list activities that contradict that.
Have a great time but don’t do the faux casual thing.

I totally ignore Easter. Not religious, not interested in a big family meal with lamb and simnel cake.
I've got an 8 mile walk planned and a bottle of wine with my name on it

Haha this is exactly the advertising I've seen.

We have a chocolate bar hunt followed by a walk... Then homemade pizzas.

I accidentally made plans to see the in laws too. <sulk>

Chocolate eggs for breakfast 😋
Having fake nandos chicken for dinner. Might pop to my mums to drop eggs there. Nothing special planned as we're not religious

brawhen · 08/04/2023 18:22

I bought lamb because it was on special offer! Kids (14 & 16) have a clue to solve to find an Easter egg (one biggish one each). Gardening, walk dog, DS1 revising for Highers, more gardening, probably slow cook th lamb for dinner (just us). Daffodils are out and lambs in the fields, so it does look 'Easter'.

I laughed at 'less diverse'. We are in a small Scottish village, we don't really match a supermarket advert 😂

FurElise · 08/04/2023 18:26

Normally we don't do anything out of the ordinary on Easter Sunday (other than chocolate eggs) but we had a death in the family recently so we're all getting together at mine tomorrow for a massive lunch. I'd guess I've spent over £150 on it - cooking quite elaborately for 14 🙈

Comefromaway · 08/04/2023 18:29

Same as a normal Sunday with a bit extra chocolate.

ArcticSkewer · 08/04/2023 18:29

Don't celebrate it, didn't grow up celebrating it beyond lots of chocolate. Can't even be bothered with that these days.
So. Long walk with dog (daily routine). Gym (daily routine). Sit in garden (sunny Sunday routine).

It's not a family day for us like Xmas is.

I also don't watch adverts.

twolilacs · 08/04/2023 18:30

We have a family member with a birthday, so there will be cake and presents! Apart from that, a roast dinner as normal on Sunday, this week we are having lamb which is traditional for us at Easter. There will also be Easter eggs. That's about it really. I used to accompany DM to church but I rarely go since she passed away some years ago.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/04/2023 18:34

Will do something together probably a walk. Will be having roast lamb and chocolate and a chill out. I'll still be cleaning the bathroom and changing my bedsheets same as every Sunday.

CarolDunne · 08/04/2023 18:34

Normal Sunday here.
Roast chicken and veg
Walk the dog on the prom
Pj's, sofa, tv

Dungarees41 · 08/04/2023 18:41

Going to an Easter event/trail at a beautiful orchard tomorrow morning, then home for lunch and a small scavenger Easter egg hunt at home. Nothing special food-wise though!

Oceans1000 · 08/04/2023 18:41

The advertisers would have us sat at a table festooned with Easter decorations, flowers, fancy desserts and eggs.
We would be hosting extended family all dressed in their best outfits!
The fridge would be bursting with fancy food and the sun would be shining!
Our day may be church, eadter eggs and roadt lamb but will look nothing like that😂

To be fair I should’ve mentioned that our Christmas plans were ruined by Covid again as we tested positive Christmas Eve and so we didn’t have the usual Christmas lunch or presents or anything really. My dad has had a stroke recently so we decided to make Easter more of a thing so we could all get together. It’s made us very aware that time is not on our side for family occasions.

Lessoftheold · 08/04/2023 18:43

Do children not roll Easter eggs any more? When we were little we (and then our kids) used to love painting hard boiled eggs then going to the nearest hilly park and rolling them till they broke. Actually sounds a bit pointless now lol

Powerof321 · 08/04/2023 18:43

What advertising?

my kids will do an egg hunt (mini eggs left by easter bunny) eat chocolate before breakfast

BooksAndHooks · 08/04/2023 18:44

We will be having a family dinner for 15 of us exactly the same as Christmas dinner, we save a Christmas pudding for Easter too.

Its pretty much identical to Christmas except eggs instead of presents and better weather.

Easter has always been a big deal. Growing up we were always told it’s more important than Christmas.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 08/04/2023 18:45

I'll be at work. So nothing like the advert 🤦‍♀️

Favouritefruits · 08/04/2023 18:46

We are going to Legoland discovery centre and coming home to a quick pasta meal, so not a typical Easter.

Oops posted by mistake as dropped my phone!

eat chocolate before breakfast then we’re going to an easter trail thing at national trust but only because it looks like weather will be ok, my son wants to go after looking it up for a project & we are members. Dinner will be pasta as that was meant to be tonights dinner but we were out longer & picked up some pizzas. We don’t eat roast dinners normally so not bothered whats for dinner. We’ve no family & we’re not religious either

That is pretty much how Easter has always been for us. Extended family, big feast and very much like Christmas Day.

tobee · 08/04/2023 18:49

Their making Easter like Christmas now - all a bit desperate with Easter crackers on sale and ads with extra guests suddenly turning up having to sit on the low chair. It can all fuck off with the attempt to make me feel guilty.

We're on holiday so not doing anything particularly Easter-y. Have bought some chocolate from Hema though so will eat that it that's probably as far as we'll celebrate!
