How does your Easter Sunday compare to Easter Sunday in advertising land?

We don't go overboard for Easter, tomorrow we will be at church in the morning followed by an egg hunt at my parents and a roast. The marketing this year seems to have been worse than ever, with images of families feasting akin to Christmas! It all seems so OTT.
We are having roast Welsh Lamb (bought on offer in Aldi) with all the usual trimmings followed by a homemade raspberry cheesecake, the total cost for the food for 6 adults is just under £20 and there will be leftovers. We will have some wine too and that is about £6.00 a bottle.
We make a bit more effort than a normal Sunday but it won't break the bank.
What will you be doing tomorrow?

I would have thought it was more a time for reflection than celebration?

Easter crackers? Is this where we are now.

Guess it all looks good on Instagram.

We don't believe in God physics is much more interesting so taking advantage of the normal life work shutdown with spring weather to get a tiny bit of DIY done.

Do you mean for Christians? Good Friday and Holy Week are a time for reflection. Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Christ and is meant to be festive.

  • Take kid to usual sports class
  • Give kid 1 medium size easter egg
  • Ponder fact that I forgot to buy minieggs for vaguely-thought-of egg hunt, shrug
  • A nice lunch with brother and his family
  • normal day after that.

I'm home alone - DD is with her dad this year - so absolutely nothing like the tv. Just me. So it's just a normal day.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/04/2023 22:25

Just a regular day here. I have a stinking cold so no Easter eggs for me.

We’re in Scotland and it has never been a big deal really - as kids we did painting eggs and rolling them but I don’t ever remember having an Easter meal or anything. Maybe we were brought up as heathens!

mondaytosunday · 08/04/2023 22:38

Same, without the church bit. My son is visiting a I'll do a lamb roast (don't bother on a normal Sunday). So that in itself is exceptional.
Not sure about the ads as I don't watch live tv so don't see them.
Our lamb alone was half price but still cost £13 so amazed you are feeding your family for £20.
And what is it with red currant jelly?? Tesco only had on brand which was sold out, nothing at two other shops i went to - one guy who worked there did don't even know what it was! He said look at the (dessert) jelly section! No eggs at two markets either!

Well as my user name suggests it’s more about a day to celebrate lovely things after winter. Spring flowers, chocolate eggs and a lamb roast.
DH and I gave up stuff for Lent because it’s good to have a reset. We are both looking forward to sugar and wine respectively tomorrow.
I do make a bit of effort with decorating, nice plates etc just to differentiate between Easter and any other Sunday meal.
I prefer Easter when it falls in March. By late April I’m in full on summer mode.

piedbeauty · 08/04/2023 23:02

We're on holiday. We will do egg hunt in the morning then a long walk on the moors, with a picnic lunch. Easter just isn't a big thing for us, unlike Christmas.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 08/04/2023 23:15

Oops forgot hot cross buns! DH was going to make some but didn’t get round to it. Spar or Tesco Express tomorrow it is then.

dontgobaconmyheart · 08/04/2023 23:18

Not a great deal, which I'm more than fine with. DP will be on call as he often is on public and bank holiday's so won't be around Sunday/Monday. We'll have dinner together in the evening and have got each other an Easter egg because we'll take any excuse for a sweet treat, but neither of us particularly like a roast so won't be doing anything like that - just something nice that we both fancy, walk the dog and a quiet evening in - a normal Sunday really.

I'm going to go to the garden centre on the Monday and make a start on the garden because it looks in a sorry state after winter, and hope to squeeze in a bit of reading time as I've just started a new book.

We aren't practising Christians (or any other religion to be fair) so don't feel compelled to particularly celebrate the day but do hope that others enjoy themselves whatever they have planned.

Lucylock · 08/04/2023 23:35

Not much. A bit of DIY, the two teen DCs have got some Easter eggs. We both have tiny and dysfunctional families who we rarely see. I find Easter and Christmas hard as everyone seems to have nice families to meet up with. My DC always comment on how we don't. It's not possible to magic up an advert land family afraid.

The extent of my Easter/Ostara decorations

I've spent the day in bed because B&M is shut 🤣

What are Easter movies?

Just some kid movies on Disney+ about Easter!

ilovebagpuss · 09/04/2023 17:49

I don't eat Lamb for a start.
Easter eggs for the teenagers. Decided not to do a roast lunch bit expensive and it's my day gone.
Went 2 hour walk and coffee with friend instead.
Popped to see my DF with an egg for him which he was proper chuffed with. He had made himself pie and chips for lunch not bad as he's in his 80's

He will come for a roast another Sunday as he does regularly anyway and not because Easter marketing says he must come today.
Just popped some nando's spiced chicken in the oven we will have it with chips and salad.
