How does your Easter Sunday compare to Easter Sunday in advertising land?

We don't go overboard for Easter, tomorrow we will be at church in the morning followed by an egg hunt at my parents and a roast. The marketing this year seems to have been worse than ever, with images of families feasting akin to Christmas! It all seems so OTT.
We are having roast Welsh Lamb (bought on offer in Aldi) with all the usual trimmings followed by a homemade raspberry cheesecake, the total cost for the food for 6 adults is just under £20 and there will be leftovers. We will have some wine too and that is about £6.00 a bottle.
We make a bit more effort than a normal Sunday but it won't break the bank.
What will you be doing tomorrow?

We don't celebrate Easter as a religious festival but we celebrate over the long weekend as it is Spring official! BBQ today and checking out garden for new growth. Few drinks tonight, cake and now watching 'Beef' on Netflix. Tmo will be a lie in, coffee, chocolate, brunch and then a nice walk. Potter about house in afternoon then DP will prepare a lovely dinner while I sit talking to him. It's great being a proper adult but I must admit I still miss my DC being little at this time of the year.

TheChosenTwo · 08/04/2023 20:19

All atheist here, I’ve got my nieces and nephews coming round tomorrow morning for an egg hunt and then my mum and stepdad in the afternoon for a bbq. We’d have just had a normal roast the 5 of us but saw the weather was going to be nice and we’ve been meaning to have them round for dinner anyway so thought we’d combine the two.
we don’t decorate for Easter, there will be no gifts or cards, no bunnies adorn my windowsills.
So a bit different to a normal Sunday but just because of the egg hunt. It’s not that unusual for the rest of it to happen!

Moxysright · 08/04/2023 20:19

DC will wake up and get their eggs (only one each as family buy them too) do a little an egg hunt in the house, get dressed in new Easter clothes (this is tradition!) and go visit dh’s parents then having lamb roast dinner at my parents. A slightly more fancy Sunday but nothing OTT. I’ve seen people go crazy with balloons, hampers all kinds but not for me!

We'll do a little egg hunt for DD in the morning, then roast chicken for lunch and some gardening in the afternoon. Might drive out to the nearby Dunkin' donuts in the afternoon because it's open and Costa didn't have ice today so couldn't have my iced latte.

BearKey · 08/04/2023 20:23

We do nothing for Easter really, I didn't realise it was such a thing for people. I appreciate some people like to visit a special church service but apart from that it's never really been in a thing in my world!

Tomorrow we will have a roast, but mostly because it's Sunday, and I'll give the kids an Easter egg. That's it!

NoUseNumber31 · 08/04/2023 20:25

We were meant to be having my parents round for a roast and Easter egg hunt but I've finally succumbed to the dc's norovirus so an Easter egg hunt that dh will set up and more sleeping for me I guess :(

Snugglemonkey · 08/04/2023 20:27

I love Easter. Although, tbh, we live an occasion really. We are not religious and will not do any kind of church stuff. Mil used to try and slip jesus into conversations with my DC, but I shut that down pretty sharpish. We have decorated the house, but not madly. Mostly homemade things, flowers, wreaths etc.

We will kick off the morning with an Easter egg hunt. I have got chocolate mini eggs, mini chocolate chicks and prefilled Lego type eggs for that. I will make bacon sandwiches but also allow DC to have chocolate at breakfast (a twice a year event). Then there will be playing with the hunt stuff while I cook.

There will be 14 for late lunch/dinner and it will be a big meal akin to Xmas. 3 courses, cheeseboard. Some relaxing. Then once guests leave, we will pack as we leave first thing on Monday until Sunday.

Yup- big extended family roast lamb lunch around the table, Easter eggs for the (young adult) “children”, church for some in the morning (inc the dawn service for the keen). Insta perfect, the pics will not show the seething resentments under the surface and multiple ongoing disagreements and hatred. What others see isn’t always reality!

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 08/04/2023 20:34

Not religious don't really do easter. Il do a Easter egg hunt for the kids in the morning then have friends coming round in afternoon so probably a few drinks in the garden if the weather is OK. Not bothering with a roast this year probably get a takeaway if their open

Stormydanielss · 08/04/2023 20:35

We're going for a mooch round Liverpool and then home for a roast
Smallest has some eggs and I've got me and fella a small egg each

Would I rather have beans on toast with some sincere atheists? Absolutely…. I

PurBal · 08/04/2023 20:42

Dawn service at 6am if not too cold. Eucharist midmorning. Lunch out (yes lamb). Champagne to celebrate. My previous church did a firework display as part of the Easter vigil and Prosecco was always available for the celebration, I’m not at a vigil tonight but the celebration is epic and I adopted the bubbles. I told everyone I wanted my wedding to be like Easter, it’s lovely and so exciting. DS has had plenty of chocolates already but I have a gift (book) for him.

EnglishRose1320 · 08/04/2023 20:45

Was hoping to go to the dawn service, but I've hurt my back, so resting up today and will see how I am tomorrow.

Will hopefully get to the church breakfast and baptism service later on in the morning.

Not cooking a roast for the first time in years, lots of busy family commitments Sunday night/Monday morning- so taking the pressure off a bit with a pub roast.

FoxFeatures · 08/04/2023 20:47

I've got 10 for lunch.

I don't believe in any god so it isn't a religious event, but we have some birthdays to celebrate and it's a long weekend.

I've been cooking all day and will start again tomorrow, so I’ll be knackered tomorrow evening, but it's worth it.

anerki10 · 08/04/2023 20:50

Normally Sunday for us. No idea what to do for dinner. Need to do a food shop really but I'll rustle something up. DS has a birthday party in the afternoon for a school friend. That's it.

Forgottenpeeves · 08/04/2023 21:12

Hot cross buns for breakfast, church, egg hunt, Easter crafts, Roast and an Easter film. Kids will probably be in the garden a lot so will do some gardening too.

coffeetofunction · 08/04/2023 21:18

Completely different this year to any others.

Easter hunt off the Easter bunny in the morning. DD3 going to her DF. I'll be spending it with my new "friend" having day time drinks. Older children will be joining us after work for drinks.

I used to love Easter as a relaxed family day with a big dinner, games,, family time ect but that's finished now. I think Christmas will be the same. Not sure how I feel about that

Bagatella · 08/04/2023 21:20

MsChatterbox · 08/04/2023 19:01

Hot cross buns for breakfast, then start the main large egg, get dressed and ready, then the hunt for the small eggs, then watch some Easter movies, then prep Homemade pizza. Eat pizza and chocolate for the rest of the day. I'm so excited for this! (5 and 2 year old children).

What are Easter movies?

MysteryBelle · 08/04/2023 21:21

This sounds wonderful.

xogossipgirlxo · 08/04/2023 21:23

I am celebrating, but within my means. It's just two of us, and my husband is working on Monday. If I had as many guests at home as they have in adverts, I would probably prepare more food and would put more effort in house looking nice. I cooked nice food though and made cake, I don't want it to be just another Sunday.

impossible · 08/04/2023 21:29

We have a meal with local extended family, twelve of us this year. We're non church so for us Easter is just an opportunity to spend time together. Roast dinner, lots of chocolate and a walk. Not expensive but very lovely, especially if the sun shines.

mynameisnotkate · 08/04/2023 21:40

We’ll do egg rolling in the morning (currently painting them now) then a big roast lamb with lots of family round. An egg hunt for the kids (all teenagers now but still up for it) in the afternoon and then an Easter tea with an Easter cake and chocolate nests. Presents for everyone (just eggs/sweets or other edible treats) and generally a lot of sweets all day (I’ve given them up for lent so am looking forward to it - not at all religious but still enjoy the abstinence of lent followed by the indulgence of Easter). I love Easter - a big traditional family day like Christmas but a million times less hassle.

FusionChefGeoff · 08/04/2023 21:49

You do know you've just described the advert, right?! GrinGrinGrin

LadyHelenaJustina · 08/04/2023 21:50

Chocolate hunt in the garden after the Easter Bunny has been.
I’ll spend the day gardening and washing.
Lasagne for dinner.

Xiaoxiong · 08/04/2023 21:52

9.30am service with MIL, back to cook a leg of lamb with orzo, for 8 people. At some point there will be chocolate and also a very nice carrot cake.
