Autistic women assemble!

...only if and when you're not feeling antisocial and want the entire world to +%$¥ off, or course. 😉😆

A few of us were talking on another thread and thought it would be nice to have a support/ chat thread on here to share interests/ challenges/ parenting issues or whatever we feel like. A little community of autistic women on here that we can dip in and out of but will be supportive and friendly and people who actually get it.

Might also be a nice counterbalance to all of the horrific posts about autism that we find here so regularly!!

P.S. Have deliberately posted this in chat rather than in the ND Mumsnetters topic because it will hopefully reach more people who would like to join in. I didn't even realise that section existed for a long time and often miss threads there as they don't show in active and expect I'm not alone in that. However, in posting this here, we will be relying on the people with obnoxious and ignorant views about autism who so regularly post on Mumsnet, to demonstrate to us their allegedly superior empathy (ha!) and please just leave this thread alone: it's not for you. Many thanks!!

Hello. Feeling sad and small but still autistic.

Hi @Nepmarthiturn !
I'm sorry you haven't been well.
My hair is a dark blonde.
We had to cancel our holiday because one of our cats became very ill and died.

It sounds like your life has become very overwhelming at the moment.

I hope things calm down soon.

Thank you. I hope so as well!

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. 😔FlowersFlowers

Hello. Feeling sad and small but still autistic.

😔😔

Do you want to talk about it? Sorry you're having a rough time. Life can be so hard.

Hello. Feeling sad and small but still autistic.

Hello. You're among friends here.
If you want to talk, we're listening.

Had a meltdown in front of irritating people today. It involved sounding the car horn repeatedly and using a small amount of foul language. I think I'm just about coming round from it, five hours later. It was a parking issue. No diagram, sorry. 😁

Nepmarthiturn · 01/08/2023 22:25

Aaargh how stressful.

Tbh, sometimes people deserve to be on the receiving end of a meltdown! 🤣

I hope you are back at home now and feeling calmer and safe again?

No diagram has ruined my evening though, I must admit. 😆😆😆

TBH I can never understand diagrams anyway so it's as well that you failed to append one.
I've had a few embarrassing meltdowns in public myself. Sometimes, some people deserve it.

I decided to make my own diagram of my mental image of @StopStartStop 's experience, complete with 1970s style cars.

The ADHD procastination to avoid folding washing is clearly on steroids tonight.

@TheShellBeach Thank you. They truly did deserve it. I mean, I could just about get past without damaging her car or mine but the stress...

Hello .this is a good idea x
i to get sick of the negative attitude towards autism on here

CallMeBettyBoop · 02/08/2023 07:32

Hello.

Autistic mum of 2 autistic adult DC here.

Currently in A&E for 2nd night running, waiting for bed and MRI scan after suspected mini-stroke. Am really struggling with all the noise and light, and all the disturbance. Just wanted to vent to others who would understand.

QuitChewingMyPlectrum · 02/08/2023 07:35

In burnout. Heeeelp.

QuitChewingMyPlectrum · 02/08/2023 07:38

Background.
I work from home. Son has had second ADHD diagnosis appointment cancelled last minute. It's holidays so everyone is here. I am talked out, touched out, and have to go get my hair coloured today. I just want to hide in my room and not hear anything.

StopStartStop · 02/08/2023 07:56

Hello everyone. @AuDHD4Me , I hear you. Hope the day goes unexpectedly well.

StopStartStop · 02/08/2023 08:00

@CallMeBettyBoop Gosh, I hope you're ok. About fifteen months ago I was in hospital for exactly the same thing. They decided in the end that I have hemiplegic migraine and I've had it all my life (I remember symptoms from my childhood). Hospitals are awful for us, aren't they? When I was taken to a ward I introduced myself as autistic and closed the curtains round my bed.

QuitChewingMyPlectrum · 02/08/2023 09:17

@StopStartStop Thank you. Sometimes it's just nice to know someone gets it. Luckily, husband also gets it, so when he gets home later, he will take over everything.

QuitChewingMyPlectrum · 02/08/2023 09:18

@CallMeBettyBoop Oh yikes, and here's me moaning. Hospitals can be awful places, sensory wise. i hope you are ok!

camelCase · 02/08/2023 09:44

@Nepmarthiturn
Sorry to hear you've not been well and things are getting overwhelming for you, hope things start to settle down soon. When I have a lot on I always try to think ahead to when things are calmer, so like this time next week it will all be over and I can relax.

The team thing wasn't a work thing, it's part of a course I'm doing. Long story short my team didn't listen to me and without going into detail the work we did was part of a competition, we did not make the finals (not at all surprised). I have another one coming up in a couple of weeks and I'm going to work alone especially as I'm currently in another team(working on another project) that's a disaster. We were given a choice of topics to work on and based on our selection we were put in teams. I finished my section of the app weeks ago, I've been waiting for the others to finish theirs so I can pull the whole thing together, I don't think we will make the deadline so will just have to offer up what we have.

@TheShellBeach

So sorry to hear about your cat, it's always devastating losing a pet 😔 and well done on the weight loss!

@StopStartStop

Sorry to hear you were so down, I hate parking it gives me so much anxiety, driving doesn't bother me but actually parking sometimes I end up hyperventilating. I try to park completely out of the way so nobody is near me, less anxious then.

@Autumnsoon

Yeah, some of the comments are shocking but we have this little safe space here 😀

@CallMeBettyBoop

I hate hospitals, such a horrible sensory experience! I hope you get all tests done quickly and can go home asap.

@AuDHD4Me
Can you rearrange your appointment? I'm very lucky that my DD is grown up and mostly leaves me alone when I'm busy, I found it so hard when she was younger and wanted constant attention.

I'm not doing much today, had a terrible nights sleep and have a bad headache, probably made worse by having to pick DD up from her boyfriends, walk the dogs and then go shopping all before 7.30 this morning. I wanted to finish off a game I'm making but I know I will end up making lots of mistakes in this state so I'm having a relaxing day, going to finish off the witcher and eat chocolate instead 😆

StopStartStop · 02/08/2023 11:11

@camelCase I try to park completely out of the way so nobody is near me, less anxious then. Yes, I do that too. Unfortunately, when I park on the drive at my dad's house, the arrogant neighbours block me in - or make it really difficult for me to pass. 😥

CloudyPurpIe · 02/08/2023 11:14

Thanks @Nepmarthiturn I might stick around

It's rubbish, isn't it? This thread has been a breath of fresh air to counteract all of that. So many lovely posters.

I'm so sorry to hear this. How scary. 😔😔 And then the hell of hospitals on top. They really do need to set up autism-friendly wards, given there is a duty under the Autism Act to make all public services accessible and hospitals are so hellish that many avoid medical treatment.

I hope you are ok and can go home soon.
