Slim 15 year old having trouble buying clothes. Which shops? Jeans shopping was a disaster.

So... We used to buy very easily from h and m, zara and mango etc.

Recently all her 164 size stuff is far too short in the leg. So we went to h and m and stuff was really long in the leg.

Jean's from several shops didn't fit her and she ended up crying. I've brought stuff on line but now I Csnt buy an age range I am struggling.

Just checked and 69cm is around a size 12
Measure her inside leg length and that will give Petite, Regular, Long etc
For example Regular length is 30cm

@CrapBucket 😂

100 though!! That's taking the piss!!

Well it was excellent service, if I was rich I’m sure I’d say it was worth it

RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 21:36

Size 12!!

Generally or in one shop?

I used to be a size 10.
My old size 10 clothes hang off her!!

That’s my waist size and I’m a womens size 10/12 (my hips are around 95cm)

Outside of service they are also extremely comfy and last for ages. I’d recommend, although I picked mine up in the US where they are much much cheaper! Don’t know if I could stretch to £100 for a pair of jeans.

RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 21:40

Top to middle hip is 88cm

DeathMetalMum · 02/04/2023 21:41

I'd agree with size 12, as I said in a pp I'm 5'1 so will still buy children clothes in say new look as often they do the same style but cheaper price and 13-14 is too big on me in length and waist. I'd need 12-13 for it to fit, I'm adult size 10 in most places but sometimes a 8/12.

RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 21:40

Are you sure you are measuring that right? Google how to measure hips. That seems very small compared to waist size.

RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 21:44

Thanks..
I'm truly astonished.

In my younger days I was a good size 10.
Once I got down to an 8 and she looks much more like an 8!

When I'm a 12 I'm far far chunkier!

She's a slip of a girl and if she lost any weight at all I'd been really worried 😧

OP posts:
Mañanarama · 02/04/2023 21:44

I’m so confused! She’s short but the jeans are too short… how tall is she?

And 6, 8 & 10 are too small but what about 12?

And where is it not fitting properly? Waist? Thighs?

stoptherainny · 02/04/2023 21:45

River island, children's range go up to aged 16. My dd is slim and likes jeans from here

This is a needlessly catty thing to say and suggests you’re a person with poor body image projecting onto a kid you don’t even know.

The child has found that adult size 10
clothes are too small. That suggests that they aren’t “very slim”. No moral judgement on the dimensions (I was a large, overweight child and have two very slim young adults, one curvy one, all healthy and have naturally different body shapes which we dress accordingly!).

RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 20:33

I've written the op badly... She is very slim but what we were trying on was still too small.

We tried 6 8 and 10.

So try a 12.

I used to be self conscious about size but used to make myself feel better by cutting off the labels once I had bought them.

You should be teaching her that size is just a number and its more important that she feels good.

RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 21:47

@stoptherainny

She wouldn't go in by this stage but will try them!

@Mañanarama

Sorry I've not been clear. Up until last year we got age size clothes and they all fit perfectly. In say zara that's size 164.

However whilst they still fit around the waist but now they are too short in the leg.

OP posts:
RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 21:50

So 69cm is 27 inches.

I've been size 8 and size 10. I've got my old clothes they hang off her.

What you mean is that leg length is too short

You need to measure her inside leg length. Most places sell jeans by waist size AND leg length.

How tall is she? If she’s 6ft then yes she is very slim with a 27” waist.

Pestispeeved · 02/04/2023 21:56

Next time you go shopping start at a 10 and then go up or down as required. Make sure you explain to her how inconsistent sizing is (even in the same shop). Most women own three different size trousers that all fit.

Also my DD1 and I have identical waist and hip measurements. She generally ends up in an 8 or 10, I generally end up in a 10 or 12. We are different shapes.

Get her to wear sensible knickers, easy to get off shoes and promise her lunch. Laugh at the randomness of sizing, dance when you find a pair that fits.

Eventually she will find a shop that usually works for her body.

The 164 is height in cm, H&M have the same way of measuring. We once had to buy my daughter boys school trousers as the girls just didn’t fit right, so I get your frustration. It’s a funny time going from kids to adults clothes but my daughter has so much more choice now.

My only advice is once you find a brand and style she likes, buy extra pairs!

Naillig222 · 02/04/2023 22:02

If you went to several shops why did you keep trying the same sizes instead of just trying a 12 if 6, 8, 10 were to small in the previous place?
Could you not tell by looking at the size 6 that it looked 3 sizes too small?

Your description of her being very slim is resulting in a lot of replies suggesting size 4 jeans which is not very helpful.

Remaker · 02/04/2023 22:06

It would be helpful to know where they are too tight - waist, bottom or thighs?

Childrens clothing generally isn’t nipped in at the waist like adult clothing as they are more straight up and down. My daughter was too tall for children’s sizes by age 13. She went from a children’s 12 in jeans to an adult 4/6 but we always had to shop around as the cut varies depending on the brand. Some would fall off her while others were too tight. Now at 16 she doesn’t have any spare fat on her, but she is an 8 while her cousin is a 4 as DD has boobs/hips and cousin does not. You need to work out her shape and go from there. Does she have any friends who are a similar size/shape? DD and friends often try on each others clothes to get ideas on what suits them in a more relaxed environment than a shop.

I’m confused. If she’s very slim surely a 10 wouldn’t be too small?

I’m 5’5 (not sure what that is in cms) with waist 24/25cm and Asos or New Look size 6 is good for me.

Also Monki.

I think the children's clothes 'track' to a women's 10 or 12. A girl who is going to need a 4/6 would not usually be able to wear an children's 14, they'd have to go straight from a children's 12 to women's sizes (sometimes petite sizes). A 164 (age 14) fitting suggests women's 10 would be the best starting point.
