Slim 15 year old having trouble buying clothes. Which shops? Jeans shopping was a disaster.

So... We used to buy very easily from h and m, zara and mango etc.

Recently all her 164 size stuff is far too short in the leg. So we went to h and m and stuff was really long in the leg.

Jean's from several shops didn't fit her and she ended up crying. I've brought stuff on line but now I Csnt buy an age range I am struggling.

Where does one measure the waist

Her slimmest part

Okunevo · 02/04/2023 21:23

What are the measurements of her current jeans - waist and hips? I wouldn’t tell her you’re measuring them (in case she’s self-conscious). You can then use these measurements to look up the size guide of jeans in different shops to find the adult equivalent.
This will only work for high waisted jeans, lower and they will be wider than on the size chart.

@3WildOnes

Because by the time I realised it wasn't working we are about 4 shops in exhausted and she burst into tears.we have not actually physically been into shops since pre covid and even then she was young enough to head straight to her size and it fitted.

Kids clothes by age are mostly aimed at the chunkier end of average. If a size 10 doesn’t fit her perhaps you need to accept that she’s not as slim as you both think.

My 13 year old struggles with jeans. She is lovely & slim, tiny waist but larger hips.
Teen clothes don't fit her as they don't seem to have room for hips.
She is only around 5ft, best fitting jeans we have found for her are from Hollister, size 8 short length.

sixfoot · 02/04/2023 21:27

Asos!! My DD15 is a size 4-6 and 5’9, asos do loads of super long length jeans, cords, everything. You can check all the measurements before ordering, a brand called Stradivarius is a massive hit here

Jellybean23 · 02/04/2023 21:27

Try TkMaxx. When my daughter was size 4 with long legs, it was a godsend.

RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 21:27

69cm

Another vote for Primark, my dd is a size 6/8 and their skinny jeans fit like a glove

All the people suggestion new look didn’t even read half a sentence into the OP did they?

This is a needlessly catty thing to say and suggests you’re a person with poor body image projecting onto a kid you don’t even know.

@Jellybean23

Her only pair of trousers that fit anymore are from there, really lovely blue sort of flared ones. Size 8 I think and whilst too long they fit beautifully but as you know we won't find the same things again sadly.

Have you a Uniqlo near you? Lots of different styles and different waist measurements plus most stores have an alteration service so you can get the legs taken up once you find some that otherwise fit. It’s free for bottoms over £19.80 or a cheap fee if under that.

@BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers

Thank you.

It's a bloody minefield and I'm acutely conscious of how sensitive girls are at this age!

I meant just measure the top of the jeans and then the widest part (hips). You’ll need to measure your daughter’s actual waist if she wants high waisted trousers or a dress. I just looked at Newlook and their 164cm jeans (kids section) is a 37 inch hip. A Newlook size 10 is also a 37 inch hip. That might be too tight on her so she might be a size 12.

Try Holister for jeans, my DD14 is a size 6 and we’ve been getting lovely jeans for her for about 3 years.

RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 21:32

Where do I measures the hip?
The top or middle

A size 10 should fit then. Does she have large hips?

RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 21:34

Her skirts we brought when he was age 14 and they sold to age 14 say (13/14) say 164.

They still fit. It's the trousers for that size that are too short or they would still fit.

Go to a Levis store and the staff will go endlessly back and forth getting some that she is happy with. I did this when my eldest went from kids to adults range.

They were about £100 though so we didn’t actually buy them but went to Primark and looked for that size waist and leg plus had an idea of the type of fit/cut that suited them.

I did buy a sale t shirt from Levi though so we didn’t completely take the piss.

Around the largest part. Would be around her bum too.

RoseandVioletCreams · 02/04/2023 21:35

@CrapBucket 😂

100 though!! That's taking the piss!!

You need to accept that you can no longer think in age sizes by the way. People come in all shape and sizes by teenage years!
