How are people feeling about Charles' coronation ?

Considering it's a few weeks away I've not heard any sort of excitement, any enthusiasm or much at all about it really!
Are the public totally over the royal family now, is it because it's Charles or is it because people are struggling to stay afloat financially?

Utterly indifferent and glad they've avoided the mawkish two week enforced QE2 mourning period which will have wrecked finances AGAIN for many in the gig economy...and then I heard they're going to be spending 8 million approx on royal portraits for public buildings. This government is so out of touch with the Zeitgeist they're a parody. I can't remember the last time I was in a public building with a portrait of the recently dead Queen in there, which is one of the stupid justifications they're apparently making. I can't help wondering which Tory mate is going to benefit from this one....

TheNyx · 02/04/2023 13:49

Interferent generally, annoyed if I think a out how much it'll be costing.

Won't be watching and I don't know many who will be

AMealASucculentChineseMeal · 02/04/2023 13:52

Well now. I did not have "Prince William is woke" on my bingo card, but there you goConfused

The 8 million on portraits is awful. Schools need staff and books etc

£8m wouldn't make a dent in schools.

Government spends £100bn per year on schools.

That's around £250 per school of the £8m was spent in schools instead...

£8m equates to around £250 per school... Not going to make a jot of difference...

MajorCarolDanvers · 02/04/2023 13:55

I'm looking forward to the bank holiday.

dontgobaconmyheart · 02/04/2023 13:57

I didn't even know exactly when it was until today to be honest, and am indifferent and uninterested generally. The bank holiday makes no difference to me as I'm not currently at work and DP usually works them and will be on call.

Mainly I'm pleased that it seems there's no street party to contend with. Our road and area has form for them - God knows why when the monarchy wouldn't even piss on them if they were on fire but any excuse for a party I suppose!

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 02/04/2023 13:57

I’m out of the country getting a boob job Grin

Roselilly36 · 02/04/2023 14:02

Not something I have thought about tbh. I wasn’t planning on watching.

Walkerbean16 · 02/04/2023 14:04

I've won tickets to the coronation concert, which so far is half of take that so I'm in two minds about wether to bother!

LadyMargaretDevereux · 02/04/2023 14:12

I'm intensely irritated by the whole thing - the spectacle of all that money being spent, the unearned privilege and entitlement of them all, the bowing and scraping as if Charles is something special.

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 02/04/2023 14:13

Roussette · 02/04/2023 10:39

Completely bored with it already. Slimmed down? No.

I don't want to hear about the silly oil that will be used, the canopies over him and Camilla, who will wear what tiara, the two new thrones and new gold carriage. I quickly switch channels when anything comes up about it, sometimes I can't find the buttons quick enough!

Nicholas Witchell will need Tena for Men because of his sycophantic excitement. £100million is beyond a joke. And now £8 million on portraits of Charles for schools, fire stations, police stations and all public offices who want one.

I honestly honestly though it was an April Fools joke when I read the article about the portraits this morning. Then saw it was dated 2nd April so sadly not.

What on earth was wrong with the gold carriage they already had?

Shouldbesleeping8 · 02/04/2023 14:15

We're having a street party which I'm looking forward to but all my neighbours have prefaced it with 'I'm not a royalist but I'm looking forward to a street party'.
What do I feel about him? Meh. What do I think about the royal family? It's time for them to go.

Carlycat · 02/04/2023 14:16

Disgusted. So much of our money spent on an outdated institution
And I feel desperately sorry for people forced to take the day off when they don't get paid
Bank holiday pay is employer discretionary

AMealASucculentChineseMeal · 02/04/2023 14:17

@PowerhouseOfTheCell fabulous! Are you going to name them Charles and Camilla? Grin (I hope my tone comes over okay here, I'm not poking fun at you Smile)

Surely Cliff Richard is performing?

Or someone famous singing Sweet Caroline to get the crowds going?!

It's a tad uncomfortable apparently. Before I get jumped on by a royalist, it is apparently a gift, but it does have to be shipped over from Oz or NZ or somewhere.

Two new gold thrones too!

Actually I think I might join you 😂

If the truth were known, I honestly cannot wait until it is all over. I hope they don't bang on about it for too long after it's done.

mamaduckbone · 02/04/2023 14:22

Indifferent - I probably won't bother watching it but will enjoy the extra bank holiday.

AMealASucculentChineseMeal · 02/04/2023 14:22

This is what happens when you order your coronation furniture off Shein 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ahem.... not the boob job, the Coronation! Just have to make that clear lol

mbosnz · 02/04/2023 14:25

I just wish they'd all shut the hell up, and sit the hell down. I'm sick of the whole self indulgent, over indulged, ruddy lot of them. (Apart from Princess Anne. I still respect her).

I wish that we the people could forcibly slim down the monarchy to the point of non-existence, while nationalising their lands, and a large proportion of their questionably got gains.

Callmenat · 02/04/2023 14:34

I'm going to celebrate it by going to Pizza Express in Woking. May even catch a glimpse of the paedo brother

Mischance · 02/04/2023 14:37

Profound indifference.

MarshaBradyo · 02/04/2023 14:37

I don’t feel strongly either way

We have a street party and a five year old dd. She loved the last one

I wasn’t going to watch the last thing but did and found the spectacle pretty good so I’ll see
