How are people feeling about Charles' coronation ?

Considering it's a few weeks away I've not heard any sort of excitement, any enthusiasm or much at all about it really!
Are the public totally over the royal family now, is it because it's Charles or is it because people are struggling to stay afloat financially?

I think the whole thing is a shocking waste of money and totally unnecessary. The lack of excitement is indicative of how apathetic people are to it. I think the day off work is the only benefit of it.

They should return the stolen lands and buildings to Roman Catholics, if they aren't going to be genuine Anglicans. The woke are all into reparations after all.

quite like the monarchy (as opposed to politician as Head of State). I think the whole thing needs reforming though - they should all live more normal lives I think like the European royal family and get rid of all titles except direct in line to throne. Don't mind C+C and think they mean well but I think that the institution has been damaged by Charles/Diana (both), Andrew and Harry and Meghan. I don't mind any of them (except Andrew obvs)but I think it would be difficult to see any of them as role models really.

Pourmeanotherwine · 02/04/2023 13:08

Indifferent. Not really a royalist. I've agreed to work that day so I can take the extra bank holiday at a time of my choosing.

Disgusted frankly. It’s costing between £50-100 million to stage. I can think of many better ways that money could be spent in these hard times. I wish I could afford to leave the country so I could avoid the whole thing.

🙄

The UK economy will easily make that and more with all the additional people visiting London, staying in hotels, eating food, using transport, visiting other places spending £££ over the weekend.

And all the others having street parties, picnics, all sorts of events that will be on to celebrate it all

What do you think the £100m should be spent on? What problem will it help solve?

NHS costs £190billion....so that's what £3bn per week... So it won't even pay for 1/2 a day.

Schools cost over £115bn... So nope, won't make any difference...

Public Transport? Nope. That's over £5bn per year.

Where as it's expected the coronation will boost the economy by £1bn

So please let us know what would be a "better" way to spend the money.

King Charles's Coronation set to boost UK economy by £1bn

The King's Coronation is set to boost the UK economy by millions as the public splurges on souvenirs, pub trips and street parties.

Are you comfortable with £8 million being spent, during a cost of living crisis, on portraits of King Charles? Who even before becoming King had personal wealth nearing £100 million?

I'm baffled by the Royals' lack of PR prowess. Even they begrudged it internally, you'd think they would try not to be so monumentally tone deaf with their expenditure even just to look less out of touch.

Think of the good the money being spent on the Coronation could do. £100 million.

Again, even if they only did it due to optics (and internally were pissed off they couldn't do everything they wanted) I'm baffled they haven't had the PR savvy to say they're doing it in a way that is at least very slightly sensitive to the cost of living crisis. Would have done the brand a world of good with people who are on the fence about the institution.

What would the £100m be well spent on I. Your opinion, that does a better job than boosting UK economy by £1bn?

I'm looking forward to it, will be watching it on TV with family and extended family and if weather is nice will have a BBQ. What's not to like?

ClaraThePigeon · 02/04/2023 13:16

What's not to like?

The whole continuation of the Monarchy part, particularly while so many people are struggling financially and otherwise. Bread and circuses comes to mind.

Also "What's not to like?" Is possibly the most infuriating phrase ever.

LadyKenya · 02/04/2023 13:18

I think that it is a colossal waste of money. I have no interest in the coronation whatsoever. I have not heard of any street parties, or the like, which is surprising as there were a few events where I live for the Jubilee.

SimplyAverage · 02/04/2023 13:18

My daughter is fuming at him over the Royal menu 😆

No equivalent of coronation chicken or Victoria sponge sandwich!

He has an expensive, labour intensive lamb chop crown - unsuitable for an afternoon tea and many budgets.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 02/04/2023 13:19

It feels odd after having the platinum jubilee for the Queen last year and now King Charles is taking over.
We’ll probably do something similar. Watch it on tv, wave a few flags, watch out for the red arrows, stick some bunting up and have a pot of tea with scones and freshly baked sausage rolls.

Badger1970 · 02/04/2023 13:25

As a small business owner, I'm less than impressed to add in another May bank holiday.

I can't really generate much personal enthusiasm either, even though it's a historic event and I've never seen a coronation before. It just seems a bit ... meh.

Floofyduffypuddy · 02/04/2023 13:28

Unless Harry and Megan go it's going to be fabulous but a little samey

ajandjjmum · 02/04/2023 13:28

It's always the same before mega national events - London 2012, the Jubilee and now the Coronation.

So many people are very vocal about their lack of interest, concerns regarding waste of money etc. Then during the course of the event, those enjoying it and making memories seem to take over the 'noise', and a majority of people feel that the occasion has given a very positive boost to the country, and also individually.

Fruitcakesanddogs · 02/04/2023 13:29

I’m looking forward to it

Hbh17 · 02/04/2023 13:31

I'm really looking forward to it and to opening a bottle of champagne in front of the TV. God save the king!

Chipsahoy · 02/04/2023 13:32

Not bothered. Booked my sons birthday party for that day. So will be all about them

Awrite · 02/04/2023 13:35

I think the Royal Family are a bunch of degenerates and Charles represents the very worst of them.

Will try to ignore the whole circus.

dreamingbohemian · 02/04/2023 13:36

People saying it's just 'bread and circuses' but it's not really is it, it's just a circus. They're not even trying to give people enough bread to live on.

ClaraThePigeon · 02/04/2023 13:39

Excellent point.

topcat2014 · 02/04/2023 13:40

I will be ringing church bells for it. As I see it if we didn't have a monarchy we would only be spending the same money for the Blairs etc to have a go. Look at France, I bet Macron isn't cheap to run.

My taxes wouldn't go down that's for sure

Yes!

quiteathome · 02/04/2023 13:45

Waste of money really. We are probably going to do this all over again in probably around ten years

quiteathome · 02/04/2023 13:46

The 8 million on portraits is awful. Schools need staff and books etc
