How much annual leave do you get from work?

How much do you get and what sector do you work in?

I'm interested in how many people get more than the legal minimum. No other reason than curiosity, most people I know get quite a lot and having a discussion with someone who says most people get the minimum.

27 days + BH + Christmas shutdown. I volunteer for the odd weekend event to claim back a day of TOIL here and there as well, which helps to boost up time off. I always carry over the max we allowed to (5 days), no idea why, it just feels nice to have it for an emergency.

Notellinganyone · 28/03/2023 22:00

17 - I’m a teacher!

Mamofteenager · 28/03/2023 22:01

26 days rising to 31 after 5 years service plus bank holidays. Also work flexi and can take 1 flexi day per 4 week period. Work in local authority

Primary School Teacher in Scotland - 40 days paid leave plus 5 more weeks unpaid. Salary is averaged over 12 months so each monthly pay is the same.

Sick pay is 6 months full pay followed by 6 months half pay. Then unpaid after that. I don't think the vast majority of employees in the UK have sick pay benefits to that extent. Civil service perhaps?

Mat pay is 3 months full pay, 6 months statutory followed by 3 months unpaid then accrued holiday pay. I had 13 months off work with both DC. I did all 10 KIT days in the last 3 months which paid the same as statutory.

Danikm151 · 28/03/2023 22:03

I started off at 21 days plus bank holiday then it goes up by one day per year worked capped at 25 days plus bank holidays.

mindutopia · 28/03/2023 22:03

I think I get 28 days plus BH, plus 10 additional paid closure days per year (I work for a university and we are required to close between Christmas and NYE and one week at Easter, which is all paid). So about 40 days plus BH.

theysaiditgetseasier · 28/03/2023 22:03

31 plus BH and can take up to 12 days flexi per year - civil service

Cece92 · 28/03/2023 22:04

I get 34.5 days, it increases with service the maximum is 35 days I'll hit that next year. We only get the Xmas and new year bank hols though. We can also buy an additional 5 days per year and a set payment comes out your wages each month for 12 months pre tax. Xx

WhatsitWiggle · 28/03/2023 22:04

I get 30 days plus bank hols. I'm in travel. It starts at 25 days and increases a day for every 2 years service up to a max of 30.

Proudofitbabe · 28/03/2023 22:07

28 + bank hols. Seems that's at the lower end on here.

FeltPenThief · 28/03/2023 22:10

20 days plus BH. However, I work term time plus some weeks in the summer hols so I actually get 9 weeks off although not all paid. Having guaranteed time off in the school holidays is much better for me than the amount of holiday I'm paid for.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 28/03/2023 22:20

26 plus BH, also bought 3 this year.

stuffnthings · 28/03/2023 22:21

25 plus BH, fixed, no increase with service etc.

ilovewispas · 28/03/2023 22:53

25 plus bank holidays and one extra day at Christmas. No increases for length of service.

We can buy up to 10 more. Can't really afford to but I buy all 10.

Campervangirl · 28/03/2023 23:02

28 days but we can buy an extra 5 days
Plus we get B/H
I work in the rail industry

HamstersAreMyLife · 28/03/2023 23:03

Civil service, 30 days plus bank hols plus a day for the kings birthday which I always end up having to work because courts are always open

DarkDarkNight · 28/03/2023 23:07

25 plus bank holidays. I know it’s not terrible but it feels poor. I did have 33 plus bank holidays in my last job.

DarkDarkNight · 28/03/2023 23:09

Civil Nuclear sector.

ChicagoBears · 28/03/2023 23:09

35 + bank hols and 3 days of Christmas covered by business.

Comefromaway · 28/03/2023 23:10

31 days including bank holidays
Construction Industry
doesnt increase

Rebel2 · 28/03/2023 23:11

25 plus bank holidays, mine has increased due to length of service but no idea what to

lechatnoir · 28/03/2023 23:11

I can really see the appeal of public sector and why people don’t tend to leave. Pay and conditions might not be great but pension and AL allowance is very generous.

I get 25 days + BHs + your birthday in the third sector. (And shit pay and a basic pension but my job is great and pretty stress free so can’t complain)

TreeLine23 · 28/03/2023 23:55

I get 20 + BH and have to keep 3 of the 20 for Xmas.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 28/03/2023 23:57

33 plus bank holidays - will rise to 34 next year. 10 years+ service public sector.

Changingmynameyetagain · 29/03/2023 00:17

I get 7.6 weeks and I work in retail.

I’m contracted to 3 days a week and this works out at about 23.5 days ish, plus I get an extra day in December as my Christmas bonus.

It’s not that simple though because I work at least an extra 15 hour’s overtime every week. I don’t get extra holidays but I get paid the average of my overtime over the last 52 weeks when I’m on holiday so I still get my overtime even on annual leave.
