How much annual leave do you get from work?

How much do you get and what sector do you work in?

I'm interested in how many people get more than the legal minimum. No other reason than curiosity, most people I know get quite a lot and having a discussion with someone who says most people get the minimum.

30 days plus bank Holidays, and I work compressed hours so have an extra day off every 2 weeks. I am a senior social worker and will get an extra 2 days in 1 year so will be 32 xx

HP79 · 28/03/2023 21:23

Higher Education

27 days A/L.
Plus Bank Hols.
Plus 2 or 3 bonus days tagged onto the Easter Hols.
Plus all of Christmas/New Year when the university closes (1-2 weeks, depending on how the days fall).

freespirit333 · 28/03/2023 21:24

31 days plus the Queen (King’s?) birthday, and plus 3 days Christmas closure. So 35 days total but 4 of those the dates are set. Flexi time too. Work in the civil service.

Self employed, so try not to take much as I don't get paid for holidays.
Usually 3 weeks, so about 15 working days (I always work on bank holidays Mondays)

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 28/03/2023 21:25

25 plus bank holidays

Solicitor and it has been the same pretty much everywhere I have worked. Most places have some extra for length of service but that varies more.

ChocSaltyBalls · 28/03/2023 21:26

25 plus birthday off plus all BHs plus we can buy 10

HereHereSheSays · 28/03/2023 21:26

We get 21 & have to take 3 at Christmas, leaving 18 days across the year. It's painful!

TakeMyStrongHand · 28/03/2023 21:26

23 plus bank hols. Increasing each year until 25 i think. Maybe 28.

TroysMammy · 28/03/2023 21:27

Admin staff GP surgery, I work 25 hours a week I think I get 14 days and 3 days bank holiday but this year as I work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I'll probably have just 1 bank holiday, Good Friday. My colleague 25 hours a week Monday Tuesday and Wednesday will have 14 days holiday and the other 8 bank holidays. I know it's not fair, wrong and discriminatory but there is nothing I can do, no one wants to listen.

Full time colleague gets 20 days holiday 8 days bank holiday which is the minimum and she's been there nearly 20 years.

RosesAndHellebores · 28/03/2023 21:27

33
Plus 3-4 extra at Cristmas and usually Maundy Thursday. Plus the bank holidays. Usually I lose a few days as can only carry 5 forward

HE - the pay's crap compared to the private sector though - within M25 and professionally qualified. The pension has kept me - and the free parking!

DevantMaJardin · 28/03/2023 21:27

I get 21 days.

onelostsoulswimminginafishbowl · 28/03/2023 21:28

Do you accrue time off in the UK? I have worked in the UK but it's been a while and I can't remember. Where I am at the moment you accrue as you work, myself and dp are paid hourly and each hour you work accrues a percentage of holiday pay, I think it is meant to balance out at around 28 days per year plus public holidays based on full time hours. However, due to the nature of dps work he can sometimes end up working 50-60 hours a week and can't always take time off. The accrued hours also roll over, if the company cannot give you your leave, they either have to pay you out for it or roll it over to the next FY. Dp currently has over 370 hours accrued which is 10 weeks of annual leave. Terrible business practise but it will be great when he can finally take the time off (or the money!)

Northernsoullover · 28/03/2023 21:29

28 days plus bank hols. I can take an extra 12 days per year flexi too. Public sector.

AlltheFs · 28/03/2023 21:30

46 days inc bank hols, HE manager (although I am part time and so this is in hours).

I bought 5 additional days though, the minimum for my role is 41 inc bank
hols.

5 of those days are days were are closed and have to be off (3 at Xmas and 2 at other points in the year) so are a bit like bank hols.

Dogsitterwoes · 28/03/2023 21:30

28 days plus bank Holidays, which increases to 33 days plus b.h after 5 years. Plus 4 wellbeing days when we don't have to work but must be available in case of emergencies (so far worked for 2 hours on one of them). Public sector.

I've only had one other job that gave more than the statutory minimum.

I'm old enough to have worked when there was no right to paid holiday.

Chasingsquirrels · 28/03/2023 21:32

25 + BH (equivalent, I'm part time).
Trainees get 20 + BH.
Accountancy practice.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 28/03/2023 21:32

Just been awarded two more days so 25 (Inc. Christmas break) plus bank Holidays plus Christmas Eve if it's on a Mon-Thurs. I use most of my days for actual holidays or weekends away so have also bought an extra five just to hang out as it's as close to going part time as my role will allow.

CatOnTheChair · 28/03/2023 21:32

5.6 weeks paid (28 days?)
Plus 7.something unpaid.

Chasingsquirrels · 28/03/2023 21:33

I started, 30 years ago, different practice, on 15 + BH.

RosesAndHellebores · 28/03/2023 21:33

@TroysMammy we have sparred on many a thread but you should get the bank holidays pro-rated in accordance with your fraction, as should your colleague. You should be entitled to the pro-rated days and paid for them under the fractional hours you render. You should get days in lieu or paid and your colleague should get any excess deducted. The statutory entilement is for the no of BH's in any year regardless of working pattern. There is case law on this and when I'm off my phone I'll Google and explain over pm regardless of our differences.

Prettybubblesintheair · 28/03/2023 21:34

I get 4 days for each day of the week I work so 16 days plus bank holidays.

Asdf12345 · 28/03/2023 21:36

A lot more than the legal requirement, but a working culture where you don’t even use the legal minimum if you want a future.

ditalini · 28/03/2023 21:38

@TroysMammy Your colleague is getting too many bank holidays, you're getting too few.

Fixing this will be pretty much cost neutral to the practice (although your colleague will likely be pissed off) but also not optional for them - these are your employment rights, not a nice-to-have.

Juggler99 · 28/03/2023 21:38

35 days plus BH plus 3 or 4 days at Christmas.

AvySt · 28/03/2023 21:38

33 plus BH - 30 years unbroken service.

Local government (education).
No holidays allowed in term time.
Carry over from year to year only in agreed exceptional circumstances (never agreed).
Three days of the 33 days leave annually, as proposed by the council, is unpaid. This is to save money (£2million if I remember rightly). We agreed it as staff. Unpaid leave has to be taken between Christmas and New Year so that offices can be closed down, to save more money ( except essential service)
