As requested, a thread to discuss today's word openly.

But I tend to agree about today’s word. It’s at the outer limits of acceptable.

Yay! An actual, real, word today 😁

My first two lines today only left me with vowels so went for an elimination word. Think I'll start doing that from now on unless I'm in a good position!

Yes. A Good word today.
I think it’s usually better to have two starter words @PoseyFlump then start guessing. sometimes I may want a third elimination word, but not usually. T’s are tricky so if I get one, I always include it in my second word.

Same, @WhatWouldJeevesDo - I have two starter words that i almost always use - I rarely try for a two

I find the tactics of this game as interesting as playing it!

I always try for a two unless I have no letters at all in the first one.

@PoseyFlump . I did get a two quite recently. I think it was plate. Yes, I’m not completely rigid and sometimes getting the letters I’ve got into the right order is the priority.

I’m curious as to which approach is the best, these are my current stats…

I think the best approach is to think ahead as much as possible with the second word so have a few second words according to the first guess. That’s what the Optimal Wordle does.

Today rearranging the letters was a better strategy. I got it in three and I couldn’t think of anything else, whereas optimal Wordle takes four by going with a second starter word. (I don’t use the same starter word as Optimal Wordle though).

Bloody hell- I didn't even get it at all today- just drew a complete blank- was fixated on it having a ch in it.

An unusual word. Sometimes that makes it easy and sometimes hard. Bad luck!

I do that a lot, see 'ch' or whatever and then can't get it out my mind!

A disappointing five today. I got the RO in the first word then there were so many possibilities from that it took a few guesses to pick the right one.

Got a couple of yellows on line 1 then almost hit the jackpot on line 2, so didn't have the same number of potential solutions as I might have done otherwise. But yesterday all I could think of for ages was EIGHT, even though I'd already ruled out a T being the last letter.

Yes. I thought glass, class, clasp, clash, flash so I went for clash then glass…I seem to be in a phase of not using a second starter word so much these days. It sometimes seems too difficult to think of a good one.
