My 2nd (3rd?) cousin in my adoptive family is Dave Bartram, the former lead singer of Showaddywaddy.

Please form an orderly queue for autographs...

Ooh, I danced with him when they played at my university summer ball one year! I used to have a massive crush on him when I was young 😍

PalominoUK · 26/03/2023 11:18

Not related to, but went to school with the man who married the Deborah from Pulp's Disco 2000

Somebodiesmother · 26/03/2023 11:26

Forgot Archie Mckellar plane Ace during the Second World War. Shot down more German planes than anyone else.Died in 1940 aged 28. Grandads 2nd Cousin.

If he died in 1940 he must have had a very busy few months to become an Ace

An Ace was a fighter pilot who shot down 5 or more enemy aircraft. If he was already a pilot at the start of the war and died in late 1940 it would be one roughly every 3 months from September 1939 to December 1940, Probably more like to have been during the Battle of Britain which would have been one shot down every 3 weeks.

Of course if he shot down more enemy aircraft than anyone else it must have been considerably more than 5.

The Battle of Britain fighter pilots were incredibly brave, I seem to remember their life expectancy was 4 weeks. some of them, well many of them, were just teenagers. Poor kids.

I happened to see Jamie Oliver's family tree online and discovered my grandfather was on it, so I am a distant cousin. My great grandmother's family were part of the same Oliver family from a village in Cornwall. I used to toy with the idea of going to eat in one of his restaurants and afterwards saying I didn't need to pay as I am his cousin.

@Lilibobo how fascinating what's do they do!

I suppose ‘glorified roadies’ might be an approximation of a job title!

They do a lot of fixing, filling in, mediating hot tempers and generally making things happen. When you read about a musician playing his guitar after smashing it during a set, or catching a private jet just in time for a performance, or stumbling in to an interview hungover, my parents are the ones making sure they have an instrument to play, a flight to catch, and turn up rather than leaving the interviewer alone in an empty room. They repair people and equipment while riding the chaos thrown out by both. Not sure what you’d call it, both are known in the industry by made up titles.

He clocked 5 in one day apparently, and a total of 21 and a half confirmed kills. You're right to be well proud 😊

It is so sad isn't it. Parents shouldn't be burying their children.

SinkingSwim · 26/03/2023 21:13

My third cousin was in Hollyoaks.

honeybeeandme · 26/03/2023 22:17

Proud Pappa 😁

My mum’s cousin was a professional footballer in the 1960’s and part of ‘that’ West Ham team who provided so many players to England’s 1966 World Cup squad - had he not had a nasty injury he may have even been named in the squad!! He also scored the goal that won the FA Cup for them. Met him a couple of times most recently at my mum’s funeral 5 years ago. Such a lovely man and so unassuming unlike a lot of modern footballers!!

Louise2092 · 28/03/2023 16:29

My gran is cousins with Robert Carlyle and on the other side, my uncle is cousins with Peter Capaldi. I've never met either of them though, unfortunately :(

Toastofnotlondon · 03/04/2023 19:09

I thought they were fab back in the day. I lived in France and they were huge!

I have a friend who does a not dissimilar job in touring opera (well, fewer guitars being smashed…), and I continue to find what he does far more interesting than many of the roles in front of the curtain!

My niece is married to the cousin of a famous comedian. I've met him a few times at family events (he and DN's DH are very close, more like brothers than cousins), and he has used some of those events as material for his act. He's a bit of a diva with an huge ego

Late to the party, but I am Charlie's aunt...............................

LoisLane66 · 28/05/2023 01:38

My father's cousin was married to the late actor, Jack Hawkins. Other than that, one of my children has been on TV numerous times here and abroad, featured in a well known upmarket glossy mag, featured in several newspapers and met many luminaries throughout their career so far. They are not keen on the limelight, although they always ring to ask me how they did when being interviewed or on a TV panel giving their views.
