My husband's mother was related to a very famous film star of the black and white era in Hollywood who emigrated from Ireland, Maureen O'Hara. A signed photo always took pride of place on the living room wall. I think it was a big deal back in the day.

She was/is my favourite actress, she was such a beautiful women x

SaponificationQueen · 24/03/2023 20:29

My second cousin was the drummer for Alice Cooper. Unfortunately, he passed from cancer several years ago. I didn’t know he was their drummer until recently.

SmilesThroughGrittedTeeth · 24/03/2023 20:29

My granny was sister to the granddad of Charlie Sexton. He had a hit in the 80s (US) "Beat So Lonely". He's now in a band called the Arc Angels. I've never met him though.

One of my great great great... grandmothers was a sister to Daniel Boone (famous in US history).

JeannieAlogy · 24/03/2023 20:29

Yes. A singer who was famous (and has continued to be so) in the 1980s.
Don't want to say more as they may be on here and not appreciate my ramblings.

HarrietsweetHarriet · 24/03/2023 20:30

I used to have a dog who was the sister of another dog owned by Rod Stewart.
This was in the 80s.
Tenuous I accept 😁

whatwasIgoingtosay · 24/03/2023 20:30

Suspect DH's family is related to Enya, but he has made no attempts to find out.

MangoPi · 24/03/2023 20:33

Yes, my cousin is Jordan Nobbs - female footballer and pundit.

I am related to a very famous Irish vet, he's not a nice person. Bit of an arse.

If it’s who I think it is you have burst my bubble 😢

MangoPi · 24/03/2023 20:34

Also, my step dads great great grandad was the captain of the Titanic.

LoisLane66 · 24/03/2023 19:20

@ancientgran Yes, a very nice gentleman with a captivating voice. I admit I only met him a few times, one of which was when he was in the company of actor Robert Shaw, he of 'Jaws' fame, another very likeable and interesting person.

Oh well you've done the double for this household, Robert Shaw is a favourite of my husbands, probably his favourite actor of all time.

Jack Hawkins did have a lovely voice, so cruel that was what the cancer took from him, it must have been so hard for him.

Anskl · 24/03/2023 20:49

My former partner's cousin is married to Tori Amos.

mandlerparr · 24/03/2023 20:50

4th cousin 2x removed to Sir Roger Carr. My grandfather wasn't famous but did drum for many famous bands when their drummer wasn't available. Including for Elvis. My grandmother used to have the news story that had a picture of him on stage with Elvis, but IDK where it is now. Probably with my aunt.

Tracing my family tree and it looks as though I'm descended from Mary Boleyn (sister of Anne and 'The Other Boleyn Girl' of novel/film fame). If I can confirmed that I can go back to all sorts of interesting people.

So yes, I'm related to a household name but then so are probably thousands of other people if they can join the dots. Hope this isn't too outing!

We are probably related then, because I am related to the Boleyns via their Irish ancestors the Earls of Ormonde

That doesn’t really narrow it down Johnson, Blair, Hague, major etc

Hague was not a PM

totesembarrassing · 23/03/2023 21:08

Yes- and it's so embarrassing that I've changed names for it!

I'm closely related to Roy Chubby Brown - and no, I'm not his wife! He's not particularly like his stage persona - that comes out when the flying goggles go on.

But yeah - it's not one I shout about!!

Don't be embarrassed at that my grandparents met him years ago in Blackpool and had a great conversation with him after he helped my Gran when she slipped. When they asked what he did he explained and said that his show might be a bit edgy for them. They said he was such a lovely man. I know plenty celebs that are sweetness and light for the camera and horrible off stage so this is a refreshing change.

LubaLuca · 24/03/2023 21:02

My husband's cousin is on the BBC's top 20 earners list. One of those that you'd be surprised is on there though, I wouldn't even describe them as a household name.

NatMoz · 24/03/2023 21:06

This is...tenuous but i work in the same company as someone who was in an 80s band where the lead singer had big lips!

Dibbydoos · 24/03/2023 21:32

No that I'm aware of, though I tell people I'm related to a Chinese martial arts actor ;)

Someone once told people on a course I was the niece of Margaret Thatcher, it went down like a lead balloon 🤣 He spent the rest of the training session telling them he'd made it up. They then were funny with him, but OK with me 🤣 I hate the tory party too!

Step kids are cousins to an actor on Benidorm, lol!

happytoobehere · 24/03/2023 21:37

Not related but growing up our neighbours son was the lead singer in the Glasgow band Nightcrawlers. John Reid he then started writing songs, he wrote “A moment like this” for Kelly Clarkson when she won American idol. He also wrote I’m sure for Westlife too. I was only a teenager at the time and thought how amazing.
One of my closest friends Uncle flat shared with Gerard Butler when they were studying together at Uni before he was famous.

To be fair we can rule out Liz Truss and Maggie Thatcher.

Out of ex prime ministers of the last 30 years, we have John Major, IBS (Deliberate Freudian slip), Tony Blair, Gordon Brown David Cameron, and Alexander Boris DePeffel Johnson.

It has to be either Johnson or IBS (IBS was PM for a short period) in the 90s, I believe

IveShaggedSomeMingers · 24/03/2023 22:20

I don't know who IBS is meant to be but we only had 3 PMs in the 1990s. Thatcher, Major and Blair, @keffie12 .
If you mean IDS, he was Leader of the Conservative Party in the early noughties.

IBS, thank fuck, was kicked out as leader by his party BEFORE he could get to be PM. However, he still managed to do enormous damage as Work and Pensions Secretary.
