What people can you remember being really popular at one point, and then seemed to drop out of existence?

Ill start with

Danielle Panabaker
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Julia Styles

I know people can look up anything these days, but I like reading these threads as you get extra information too. It's what the ' chat ' threads were invented for I'm sure

Terry Nutkins died in 2012

That would certainly explain why we haven’t heard much from him lately!

This thread is fun but some of the answers are a bit bonkers!

Allergictoironing · 20/03/2023 10:36

I think one of the things that puzzles me about this thread, apart from people not understanding that someone "big" in the 70's/80's will be pretty old by now, is some of the people that posters are bringing up as having been "everywhere".

Yes there are some famous film stars, who they may or may not have noticed are still acting, have quit, raised families, died etc.

A few presenters who seemed to be the go to guys for a few years, but many of the names were very minor or very niche celebrities e.g. soap stars, pop stars, children's TV presenters, who were only famous for that one thing. When they stopped doing that one thing, or in the case of pop stars a new "face" came along, they faded back into almost obscurity. Or they do something considered a no-no, e.g. Angus Deayton was exposed as using cocaine & paying for prostitutes.

In 20 years people will be saying "what happened to..." loads of today's celebrities.

For those asking after Gareth Gates... he's playing Squidward in the Spongebob musical. No sarcasm, I cannot wait to see that.

Zammo ….

Doesn't he have a key cutting business somewhere?

Richard Armitage - I thought he was going to be a huge star.

He has moved into audiobook territory and done a few more series for the BBC.

Trev and Simon!

Trev and Simon!

They're in line for a key new hair cupboard management role if Rochelle wins The Apprentice. Watch this space!

TheAirbender
Jasper Carrott

Currently appearing in The Archers on Radio 4.

I hadn't realised that was him. I can't recall the name only that he interacted with Ben. I'll look up the latest Archers chat thread, though I'm usually many episodes behind.

ArabeI · 20/03/2023 12:11

I wondered where Nigel Harman had gone the last five years. He's done some theatre and is now in Casualty. I like him so I might start watching Casualty again!

@SequinsandStilettos

I knew he was still acting, no idea what, but he also offers meditation courses online in groups. He's quite good.

pumpkintits · 20/03/2023 12:37

Alexa Chung.

It occurred to me that she isn't in the press as much as she used to be.

I've been watching Next In Fashion on Netflix and she is one of the hosts.

ReadtheReviews · 20/03/2023 12:59

@Shantayyoustaysashayaway Daniel Bedingfield had a horrific car accident and moved to New Zealand where he now has blue hair. Think Natasha married an American and still writes songs?

Ah, interesting! We had the Archers on when I visited my DPs a couple of weeks ago, and I was convinced a voice I was hearing was that visually impaired comedian, think he’s called Chris Causwell or Causfield or something like that. I now think it must have been JC. If so, he and CC’s voices are almost identical. I like to think I’m good at recognising voices (but obviously not that good!)

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/03/2023 14:20

Chris McCausland is a Scouser and Jasper is a Brummie - maybe their intonations are similar, but their accents are distinct from each other.

Because @xsquared , I hadn't gone through the 10 previous pages of speculation! I got to about page 4 and posted my comment. Obvs, the point about it being a chat forum was on a later page
But having a 'chat' doesn't preclude you from looking up whether or not someone is dead, or if they are working in a theatre production rather than on telly!

It's a lighthearted thread where people can reminisce about celebs of their day who are now mostly replaced by younger actors, presenters and what not.

Of course we can just Google what they are doing now, buy that wasn't the question.

Sartre · 20/03/2023 14:54

Mary Kate and Ashley and Nicole Richie. I know Nicole married Joel from Good Charlotte and had children with him and Joel’s twin Benji married Cameron Diaz (such weird couples!) but I barely hear anything about Nicole now. MK& Ashley seem to have disappeared.

Also Russell Brand.

SpookyBlackCat · 20/03/2023 15:08

I had it in my head that one of the Olsen twins married Nicolas Sarkozy, but now I think maybe I imagined it. To be honest, I admire celebs who take a break from it all when they have loads of money. It's what I would do. Especially when your kids are young, why not take a break and enjoy the lifestyle for a bit?

You’re quite right, Mary Kate did and she looked rather unwell at the time. I believe their sister Elizabeth is still acting but they have disappeared. I don’t blame them either, I’m sure being a child star is an enormous pressure.

Dean Gaffney

I think that work dried up for him, after he was convicted of drunk driving, during lockdown. Did he ever do anything apart from Wrickaaaay! ?

I think you’re thinking of Sid Owen, no idea on the drink driving front but he played Rickaaaaayyyy. Dean Gaffney played the local litter picker with the Alsatian called Wellard 😂. Don’t think either of them did anything outside of ‘Enders.

You think?!

😀

Many women disappear off our screens if they commit the dreaded sin of <whisper it quietly> putting on weight.

If you look at Jeremy Clarkson or James Corden, the same standards definitely do not apply to men, who are threatened with disappearing off our screens, allegedly for being twats, but still get to return nonetheless! 🧐

Christine Bleakley covers the Lorraine programme on ITV when Lorraine is away - and I thinks she does Loose Women

the80sweregreat · 20/03/2023 15:25

Dean Gaffney played Robbie Jackson in EE

Wrong Sarkozy. She married Oliver Sarkozy, Nicolas Sarkozy’s brother. They are divorced now.

Dean Gaffney was in Rick Gervais's Extras.

He worked with "Barry of Eastenders" in the phone shop 😁
