Nurses - what do you think to the pay offer?
BabbleBee · 16/03/2023 17:46
Initially I thought 5%, hmmm ok. Then I looked at the breakdown and it’s around £1500 a year extra for your average B5. That’s not going to make much difference in the monthly pay is it….
Onepotatotwopotatothreepotatofour · 16/03/2023 17:51
It’s nowhere near enough and I’m surprised the RCN are suggesting it’s accepted
Amethystanddiamonds · 16/03/2023 18:01
It's not enough. It also depends on what happens with the pension bands and where they are set (don't think phase 2 changes have been confirmed yet). I can imagine it works out so loads of people are paid less again despite technically receiving a pay rise.

Pretty happy with our pay offer, got last years backdated so got a lump sum, just waiting on this years being approved as unions recommending we accept. I'm in Scotland though.
secretmumoffour · 16/03/2023 18:03
It's the lowest in the UK not to mention firefighters were given 12%. Government are having a laugh! I'll be voting to reject
FannyFifer · 16/03/2023 18:05
What's the salary in England?
So I'm band 5 top increment & my pay should be going up to £37,664 once this years offer is approved.
sighsloudly · 16/03/2023 18:09
I think it is shit and worse in wales. In wales we rejected the welsh governments offer and the rcn accepted it I feel really let down by rcn wales.
FannyFifer · 16/03/2023 18:09
Well that's not very fair.
Come to Scotland, we could do with more nurses.
Botw1 · 16/03/2023 18:10
Nurses are still being shafted when you look at other public sector pay roles for similar levels of qualifications

Scotland is very beautiful… but if I was going to move I’d want to go somewhere warmer!
QueenCoconut · 16/03/2023 18:11
Are the unions suggesting the offer is accepted because of the one- off bonuses for 2022/2023? Are they lower than the Scottish bonus?

Agreed.
I’ve been top of B5 for a while now, have considered applying for a B6 role but I end up looking at the pay and it’s just not worth it for the extra stress and responsibility I’d have to take on

It's not a great increase, but then it's more than my increase of 0%.
I'm also sure plenty of people on here would love another £125 a month in their pay!

I hear Australia are recruiting........
So are New Zealand!

We get a couple of nice days a year in Scotland. Once every decade we might get a nice week hahaha although I’ve always been at work that week 😂. I’m quite happy with the pay offer up here too overall.
scaryeleneve · 16/03/2023 18:15
I don't really understand this 'one off lump sum of 2%' either. The numbers quoted as 'being equal to' on sky news aren't 2% of the salaries they are mentioning - I don't understand how a one off payment can be equal to something - it either is or it isn't surely?!
Pay award wise...meh.
It won't get anymore bodies through the doors to work in the NHS. They need to look at scrapping tuition fees, pay people for placements, improving infrastructure and IT etc. nothing the current government cares about.
We've been told we need to move away from a 1:1 model of care (AHP therapies) and only offer leaflet advice or advice groups. No more personalised assessments or rehab - even if the unis were full (which they aren't) there's not enough staff to the patient volumes and the exponential growth will keep on going.
GoodChat · 16/03/2023 18:20
The offer is appalling and should be rejected. 10% should be the minimum.
Yolanda524 · 16/03/2023 18:20
I hope the members reject this offer and return to the picket lines. And no one off day strikes, continue on strike Monday to Friday. I can’t say how angry I am at the RCN for recommending this pay offer
QueenCoconut · 16/03/2023 18:21
Under the deal, Agenda for Change staff will receive a non-consolidated award of 2% of an individual’s salary for 2022/23.
In addition, they will receive a one-off ‘NHS Backlog Bonus’ which recognises the sustained pressure facing the NHS following the pandemic and the extraordinary effort staff have been making to hit backlog recovery targets and meet the Prime Minister’s promise to cut waiting lists.
The backlog bonus will be worth at least £1,250 per person but will be determined based on how much experience staff have and based on an individual’s pay band. The average nurse in pay band 5, for example, will receive £1,350.

Does anyone know how the back dated lump sum will work?
If I was to leave NHS in next 2 Months would I still get it?
CakeWarrior · 16/03/2023 18:26
I think its an absolute insult - made worse by the fact the NMC have said they advise we accept it! We voted for fair pay. This is not fair pay. Particularly when its in the news that well known coffee chains are paying almost the same wage! I worked a 14 hour shift last saturday night - no break or hot drink. Still will have an hour deducted so only will have 11.5 hours of shitty pay and was late home as the agency nurse never turned up. Its a disgrace compared to the other sectors
