Nurses - what do you think to the pay offer?

Initially I thought 5%, hmmm ok. Then I looked at the breakdown and it’s around £1500 a year extra for your average B5. That’s not going to make much difference in the monthly pay is it….

I thought the NMC was asking for 19%? So why is 5% which is still well below inflation suddenly a good deal?

CakeWarrior · 16/03/2023 18:38

@headstone probably because they are fedup of how long its dragging on for and just want an end to it without actually caring it is nowhere near what they proposed or what they said we are worth...

Triflenot · 16/03/2023 18:38

Can anyone tell me if the pay rise applies to all NHS jobs, not just nurses? ( I know doctors have a different pay scheme) I’m thinking of technicians, admin staff, porters, IT people etc

@Triflenot

Yes it will apply to all NHS staff on agenda for change

That was another part of the Scottish pay offer, an agreement to look at removing nursing staff from AFC

from the gov.U.K. site it looks like the English government has committed to this too- proposal to be in place by the 24/25 pay round.

TheUsualChaos · 16/03/2023 18:44

Not a nurse but AHP so on same pay system.

It's not enough but actually it's more than I expected form this government. I think if there is a plan in place to continue improving salaries so that we catch up to where we should be by now because of all the pay freezes than I could be happy with the offer.

Botw1 · 16/03/2023 18:45

@QueenCoconut

Thats good

Yorkshiredolls · 16/03/2023 18:46

top band 6 but on WTE 0.8 which is £32470. 4 days clinic work so no unsocial hours. 5% increase will be about £80 a month, hardly anything to cheer about. The lump sum is Ok but will they take tax off that? I will reject the offer.

Don’t be fooled. The government are committing to future promises they won’t be in a position to deliver- they will be out of power before any of this comes to fruition. The government is fully aware of this, it’s a ploy.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 16/03/2023 18:49

I’m not a nurse but it’s not enough. All public sector workers should get a pay rise equal to inflation.

Yea, any income would be taxable.

Yorkshiredolls · 16/03/2023 18:51

Ah well in that case they can extra shove the offer

Ladybug14 · 16/03/2023 18:53

It seems to me that the Government is doing very nicely thank you

Asked for - 19%

Settled for - 5%

🥺

NeonHalo · 16/03/2023 18:53

Hmm would this backlog bonus be pro-rata?

walkies123 · 16/03/2023 18:56

Ridiculous it should be no less than 10%

islamann · 16/03/2023 18:59

Also if staff are on universal credit the lump sum will tick up their claim for the following month so they won't have any bonus at all.

islamann · 16/03/2023 18:59

Fuck up not tick...

Sunbird24 · 16/03/2023 19:00

secretmumoffour · 16/03/2023 18:03

It's the lowest in the UK not to mention firefighters were given 12%. Government are having a laugh! I'll be voting to reject

It’s not, the military are getting 3.75%

littleducks · 16/03/2023 19:00

I think it being a full AfC pay rise limits how high it would go unlike firefighters it's not just the professions striking who would require the higher pay deal but far larger numbers

WimbourneWasps · 16/03/2023 19:00

Nowhere near enough

Sunbird24 · 16/03/2023 19:03

Not saying I think 5% is enough, just that it’s not the lowest in the country. But the military aren’t allowed to strike.

GCWorkNightmare · 16/03/2023 19:14

NeonHalo · 16/03/2023 18:53

Usually, yes.

Orangebadger · 16/03/2023 19:14

Yep just read it and came on here to ask the same question.

Utter crap! No way is that enough. I'll be voting to reject it.

Yorkshiredolls · 16/03/2023 19:15

£20 week I might be able to afford lurpak again woopdedooooo thanks Rishi

Exactly. I'm under no illusions that NHS salaries are ever likely to catch up to where they once were within my time. And that's assumng the NHS survives much longer.

I dislike the banding system as a whole anyway as there is far too much variation of jobs within the bands. I am fairly high up in what I do but I certainly could do a lot easier and less stressful job within the NHS for the same pay. It all feels very unfair.
