What is going on at the BBC right now?

What with the news breaking today ( 10/03/23) that Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day and now Ian Wright is also not going to appear on the show in solidarity. They also have said that they will not air a David Attenborough (what the hell did he do/say that pushed their buttons) episode due to fears of a right-wing backlash. On top of that, Fiona Bruce has said that Stanley Johnson 'only' broke his wife's nose once (I mean just how many times is too many, I ask ye).

What the hell is going on at the BBC right now????

Sources:
David Attenborough being cancelled
Gary Lineker stepping back from MotD
Ian Wright standing by Gary
Fiona Bruce story

Just wondering if anyone can make sense of what is going on in the BBC at the moment.

And to add to my previous catalogue of disasters , the regular presenter of Final Score has refused to present this evening

Does final score even need a presenter? I thought in the old days they used to have a computer image of the scores coming in and then an old dude reading the completed game scores at the end.

I do wonder how many people might come to regret their decision. The main presenters of Match of the Day are set up for life. If lower down employees refuse to fulfil their contractual obligations then the BBC might cancel their emploment.

All fun joining in until they cannot pay the bills.

What has that got to do anything?!

He is a well know man because of his past football career and MOTD gig. He should stick to the rules of whoever currently pays his wages as everyone else has to.

Why do you think he should be allowed to tweet divisive and goady rubbish? This is nothing like '1930s Germany' and must be incredibly unpleasant for any survivors to have it likened to it.

We can't have boatloads of illegal immigrants pitching up every day. It is a dangerous crossing and we need to do everything we can to stop it.

Month old article by Jewish holocaust survivor, are you telling her she's being divise and speaking 'goady rubbish'

So it's ok for John Humphrey's (news presenter) and Andrew Neil (news presenter) but not alright for a football presenter?

And Alan Sugar and Jeremy Clarkson. I'm sure there are more who have spouted right wing stuff and carried on working at the BBC.

If they are going to impose this rule then impose it to left and right.

Novella4 · 11/03/2023 12:13

So as part of their total capitulation to the right wing the BBC have decided not to air one of David Attenborough's programmes - it seems it may upset the Tories as it highlights how wildlife in the UK has been destroyed

Now William Windsor will surely have something to say - that's his new big thing isn't it ? The environment .

Oh wait ...

I always loved Attenborough, hence I watched all the news articles and TV at the time of his 90th.

For his 90th birthday he was invited to visit Obama in the White House. Attenborough said at the time he was perplexed why this was happening and why such a big fuss was being made of him.

It's clear that politicians had plans for him.

I still respect him for his years of work - he has been exploited in his old age by politicians.

Final Score - I got a news alert not long ago apple.news/AREMLLwh7QQOX8u0WNFiURQ

I think fair bloody play to them. Standing together against this nonsense.

I don't like football, don't watch any football programs but I am truly impressed that they are standing together. Good for them, footballers have gone up in my estimations.

Yet we can't be concerned about the amount of immigration occurring

Surely this is affecting the environment as we have to keep providing housing

Seventytwosunsetstrip · 11/03/2023 11:55

@GPTec1 they have had plenty of time to fix the immigration system but haven't despite many new bills on the subject.

The stumbling block is all the Leftie Lawyers who raise spurious last minute objections to stop deportation.

Ha ha again!

Lawyers can only operate within the law and ultimately its judges that decide.

Do you think they are leftie judges?

Bravo though for your wind up attempts.

This is incorrect.
The BBC said: "Wild Isles is – and always was – a five-part series and does not shy away from environmental content. We have acquired a separate film for iPlayer from the RSPB and WWF and Silverback Films about people working to preserve and restore the biodiversity of the British Isles."

Novella4 · 11/03/2023 12:30

I see

The BBC decides which 5 episodes though and they caved in on the episode that dealt with climate change and agri damage because the far right don't believe in climate change.

MP Steve Baker, a minister in the NI office and one of the ERG MPs keeping Sunak in place is a climate change denier.

Tories have had 13 years to fix the immigration crisis you claim they inherited.

I am assuming that the law on Asylum Claims is the same all over Europe, so it seems odd that the number of approved claims for asylum for Albanians is 53% in UK yet 37% in France......

Gosh are we about to call another country more ‘right wing’ than us?? 😱

I’m just kidding, of course we’re not.

There’s nothing that can be done to fix it, not without breaking international law. That’s the downside of being a country with generous benefits 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think these people lack critical thinking skills. They have an inflated ego from university who sold them a degree, because they have linguist and memory recall skills and deem the ideologies they are taught as superior. They don't seem to think anything through.

It goes back to Foucault, many following his Queer theory of blurred boundaries they probably don't realise is behind it all and its shootoff intersectionality (environmental as they eat unseasonal and not locally, as they are on a flight to Australia, chomping on an avacado or Almond lecturing the rest of us ) they don't seem to know that's what they follow - irrational luxury beliefs of a sadistic pedophile or how to link things up.

They then insult the victims of their ideologies and ineptness that they have zero empathy for - because they are worshipping themselves and how humaine/great they are.

FabledEasterEgg · 11/03/2023 12:46

Benefits which immigrants crossing via the channel can’t access until asylum has been approved.

Final Score is not the same as the videprinter. That appeared in a much longer programme hosted by, for example, Des Lynam in Grandstand days. Final Score is an entire programme and quite an important part of the BBC sports output.

The BBC has really struggled to meet its commitment to televised sport - which many people pay their licence fee for, after all.

They have been warm all winter at my expense, unlike me, a uk taxpayer, born here, a human also, that my country is supposed to put first, before other nationalities.

Makes no difference, that’s the attraction isn’t it?

Moonicorn · 11/03/2023 12:54

I don’t see the answer to a country’s conflict as being allow anyone who wishes to leave to simply pile in to another country which already cannot provide a good standard of living for the citizens it already has. That’s the bottom line. Afghanistan has a population of 40 million, if a third eventually leave that’s over 10 million people to be absorbed across Europe, with the U.K. as the destination of choice.

I really don’t understand what people don’t ‘get’ about this and how meaningless phrases such as ‘treating people like humans’ are just that, meaningless.

woodhill · 11/03/2023 12:54

And they will get housed at some point, they won't be in the hotels forever, yet they haven't paid any N.I.
