What is going on at the BBC right now?

What with the news breaking today ( 10/03/23) that Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day and now Ian Wright is also not going to appear on the show in solidarity. They also have said that they will not air a David Attenborough (what the hell did he do/say that pushed their buttons) episode due to fears of a right-wing backlash. On top of that, Fiona Bruce has said that Stanley Johnson 'only' broke his wife's nose once (I mean just how many times is too many, I ask ye).

What the hell is going on at the BBC right now????

Sources:
David Attenborough being cancelled
Gary Lineker stepping back from MotD
Ian Wright standing by Gary
Fiona Bruce story

Just wondering if anyone can make sense of what is going on in the BBC at the moment.

Why do you doubt that?

How many rocket scientists do you know?

How many rocket scientists stayed with Gary Linekar?

Why? Men are tortured and subject to death threats. Men who are gay, are in danger. Men have helped our government (eg Afghanistan) and have been left behind.

Because women and children are the most vulnerable people in war. ‘What about the menz’ simply wouldn’t survive on any other mumsnet thread, it’s only accepted on here as there’s a racial element.

As I said.

If you have safe and legal routes, it creates a stronger border because you can better track who is and isn’t coming here.

Do you think it’s either unlimited or limited?

How do you think people should present their cases for asylum to the UK? If you say they can’t at all unless they come from three countries (!) then you will drive people underground. How does that improve matters?

So if you are limiting it, say a number 20k from x country and you’ve reached that and the 20,001st person applying is hugely desperate still, do they pay a smuggler for a boat crossing?

And if so how do you stop that.

So are you suggesting we have no limits then?

Or, as I think you’re suggesting, we have a limit of none at all and close our borders completely and say fuck off to any more asylum seekers and expect France to pick up the mess (for a princely sum of £500 million plus £120 million to Rwanda?)

@Moonicorn you consistently post absolute nonsense not supported by any of the facts known by those who work in the sector.

I myself know people who came here to live with distant relatives after their immediate families were murdered or imprisoned.

You can deny the truth of people's lives if you need to do that because you have a psychological problem processing the reality of the world, but it doesn't make you right.

Of course some people who come are criminals - but equally some are people who have suffered great hardship and trauma who just want to live a peaceful, productive life.

Moonicorn doesn't need to know facts and information and stuff before spouting an opinion.🙈

I feel like I am emotionally being held by the scruff of my neck by the left, they are everywhere bullyinb us to share tgeir beliefs, tekking me that I have to stop caring about myself, my family and those outside of us that interest me naturally and I am being commanded to care about things I just don't.

I don't care about undocumented fit young migrants from Albania.

I don't care about other groups who fly flags everywhere trying to make us all worship them either.

I don't care what names I am called, I dislike being bullied, this is part of the laundry list of make supremacy misuse of taxpayers money and institutional capture, I fund the BBC and state, I want a refund.

Grown men don’t ‘need’ to live with distant family. If they take their lives in their hands to do so that’s on them.

My some concern in all this isn’t the men, it isn’t even our ‘tax money’.

It’s the Afghan women and children who have been utterly shafted and the British women who are expected to tolerate high male immigration from a very patriarchal society.

I want pick up points in mainland Europe with a fast stream for women and children who want to come here. I want true information about what they can expect in terms of support given to them so they can make an informed choice about whether to come.

Women and children will be an asset to us, and minimum risk to the public.

Do you think children might want their fathers?

Closdifficile · 10/03/2023 21:06

Stop turning it into a left/right thing. The LP have nothing to do with this. It's more a right/wrong issue.

You can just ask instead of writing my response.

I’d go for safe routes with a limit but it will still mean tough measures as a market for smugglers will still exist.

As soon as there’s a no there’s people desperate enough to pay as there is now.

Saying safe routes only makes the issue go away if it’s yes to all, but not many want that. Only a minority imo

Are you aware that the Tories have been in power for over a decade? They are the ones you’ve been paying money to, not Labour or “the left”. If any of us deserve a refund it is those who have consistently voted against the current government!

Closdifficile · 10/03/2023 21:07

@NiceHotCuppaCoffee want a refund off the government for their shameless brexshit disaster ?

I’m a pragmatic person and don’t think we will ever completely get rid of people smugglers. Never going to happen. The same with all crime - you can’t completely stop it because some humans have criminal tendencies.

So I think the best we can have is a combination of

  • safe and legal routes
  • sensible quotas but based on evidence and are fluid and not hard
  • better cooperation with the EU to help tackle criminals; a sensible grown up conversation around this
  • invest in the home office. I strongly believe that part of the problem is staff cuts during austerity. It always takes resources to do this

There is a middle ground between completely closed and completely open boarders. The question is if you have legal routes for asylum seekers and you pick a number of people that you can cope with taking and after that people who are not admitted are still crossing in small boats what do you do to stop that from happening? It's a valid question.

And I think you’re being obtuse.

The refugee staying with Gary Linekar wanted to go to university to become a rocket scientist - he wasn’t an actual rocket scientist. Sweet Jesus. he was ambitious! Good for him.

Yes I think you’d end up with safe routes and the boats issue on top.

And the latter would grow as world issues do.

It’s very hard to stop, some countries manage it but it takes a lot.
