Nicest/not nice celebs.

1000 replies

bazzabas · 10/03/2023 11:58

Who is the nicest celeb you've met?

On the flip side who was not nice?

I had a friend who met Girl's Aloud after she won a competition.

They waited hours to met them, waiting for them to arrive.

Apparently Nadine was lovely, chatted and genuinely seemed interested to meet them.

Sarah & Nicola not so nice, very mardy and diva-ish.

My grandma used to babysit Shirley Crabtree! I will assume he behaved well...

Shirley crabtree was my dad's best friend and they used to go to bingo together 🤣🤣🤣 lovely man

Crutcher · 12/03/2023 23:32

As some PP have mentioned, I think some celebs get unfairly slated for being standoffish when going about their daily lives. We often tend to forget that while the celeb is familiar to us and sometimes even lives with us so to speak, we are complete strangers to them.

I once met Milton Jones at Heathrow. After confirming it was he, I told him he was one of my favourite comedians. I got a quick thanks, but he was very clearly not interested in making small talk. Fair enough, he was at the airport picking up his dad, and not in the capacity of being a comedian. It would be ridiculous to hold it against him.

Likewise when I met Sara Pascoe on the tube. She was going about her daily life, why should she be forced to stop and chat with a fan?

Ellie Kendrick was really lovely when I said hello after watching her in Gloria, Hampstead Theatre.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 12/03/2023 23:34

John barrowman- sweet and polite, lots of energy.

Not quite so sweet and polite when he keeps getting his willy out on set, though....

Howard from Take That - misery guts
my heart is now broken!

As has been suggested a few times on this thread, though, 'misery guts' is very open to interpretation. It in no way makes a famous person horrible, just because they don't want to engage and maybe want to be left alone or just are quiet and/or introverted when they aren't performing.

It's hardly in the same realms as the attitude and behaviour widely reported by the likes of Cilla, Brucie, James Corden and Antony Cotton.

Plus, I bet Greta Garbo was described in exactly the same kind of terms in her day - and it's not really done her legacy any harm, has it?!!

Bellavida99 · 12/03/2023 23:35

Will Greenwood (rugby) was so lovely to my daughter when she was young and sulking about something a little way away from us at an event. He spotted her and went to see where her parents were. I caught his eye and nodded that we were watching her but he crouched down and chatted to her for ages pointing out silly things to cheer her up. Peter Andre shared a table with us at a theme park and seemed nicer and chattier to strangers than I would have thought. Duncan from blue did some really generous things for a school he had no connections to just from a request.

chipsarnie · 12/03/2023 23:41

I had a long career in the whacky world of magazines, so I've met quite a lot of celebrities, in various situations. The only not-so-nice ones were - in the main - Z listers from reality shows who got their 15 minutes and were convinced they were gonna be The Next Big Thing and vanished up their own fundaments.

Anyway, here are some:

Claudia Winkelman. Lovely. Helped me hang a massive framed photo. I also had a fairly long working relationship with her mother, Eve Pollard. She was nice to me - but got through a lot of PAs.

Dom Joly. Much nicer than I expected. Very friendly. Loves Vespa scooters. His (utterly adoreable wife) was a bit embarrassed by his fame.

Peter Andre. Met him many times. Genuinely lovely guy. Remembers birthdays of people he hardly knows. Very charming.

Simon Cowell. Box-shaped and very small. Seemed quite shy and awkward. Polite.

Barbara Windsor - exactly as you might expect. Giggly, funny and friendly.

Roger Daltrey. Absolutely radiated 'rock legend'. Very chatty and down to earth. A bundle of energy. In very good nick for his age.

Sarah Cracknell from St Etienne. Traffic-stoppingly beautiful. I met her at a photoshoot and she remembered me when our paths crossed again two years later in a pub. I was dithering if I should say hello, but she saw me and came over for a chat. I was like a blushing teenager. She really is stunning.

I've got friends who worked in other branches of media with GREAT stories about some real A-listers. If I shared them here I'd probably get my arse sued off.

I desperately want to know if Pedro Pascale is as much fun as he seems in interviews.

Me too because he's gorgeous 😍

OutOfChocolate · 12/03/2023 23:42

Barbara Windsor might have been giggly, buts he also hung out when younger with a lot of known gang members and criminals.

chipsarnie · 12/03/2023 23:48

She also 'hung out' with a load of actors in Carry On Films and Eastenders, which is why I was involved with her.

So I'm not entirely sure what your point is?

PatrioticPenny743 · 12/03/2023 23:51

Lawrence LB was really not very nice at all, also Bobby Ball from Cannon and Ball, was condescending and unkind, but met plenty who were lovely Barbara Windsor, Shakin Stevens, Lenny Henry, Steve McFadden, Alesha Dixon, Carl Cox, Dave Bartram from Showaddywaddy, Mike Tindall, just to name a few, thankfully I've met more lovely celebs, than horrible ones.

Boussa · 12/03/2023 23:52

Joanne Page is just so lovely. I used to work in a John Lewis cafe and she signed punny autographs for all of us starstruck teens despite being pregnant. Feel bad now for making her do this!

Chris Tarant didn't make eye contact when I served him but wouldn't call him rude.

PartyPartyYeah · 12/03/2023 23:52

Joe Gatto I've met twice and he is super super lovely and sweet.

Buggersticks · 12/03/2023 23:58

Monty Don - bit shy, very pleasant, shorter than I expected. Rough hands (when he shook mine!)
Jay Kay - looked at me like he hoped I recognised him, but then seemed annoyed I'd actually seen him at all.
Jeanette Krankie - tiny, very smiley, looked at me like "do you remember me??" It wasn't until her husband pulled up and shouted her name that it clicked who she was.
Monty Halls - absolutely lovely bloke, very down to earth, friendly and chatty.
Charlie Dimmock - much shorter than I expected.

earsup · 12/03/2023 23:59

Encountered some coronation st cast at manchester airport, my flight to kenya was delayed so they put us in the first class lounge for a while....the CS crew gate crashed the lounge and grabbed lots of miniatures of booze and food and ran out....cant really remember who they were, women cast.

*ZombieKettle · Yesterday 19:44

Great! Excellent! I'm glad to hear from more than one person that she's actually lovely!

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 13/03/2023 00:30

Nice Sam Fairs , talked to me about my twin daughters, said she would love twins .
Awful her sister Billie , rude & couldn’t stop looking at her own reflection.
Really nice & fun Russell Kane , met him walking along Southend seafront. He just stopped & started chatting. Very tiny guy .
Awful Diane Louise Jordan , nasty rude woman , worked with her on a reality type show .
She was mega short with a massive chip on her shoulder.

JaneJeffer · 13/03/2023 01:23

We need names!

*I have a friend who is an actress and is in a long running soap and is now widely known. She's a gorgeous person inside and out and entirely unaffected by her fame.

I had dinner with a member of Duran Duran. He was a perfectly amiable person but did cheat on his then fiancé (not with me I hasten to add).*

Relaxd · 13/03/2023 01:30

Trevor Macdonald. We chatted in a restaurant. Total gent.

Very glad to read this! Although I reckon all
the jokers would be lovely in person, they all seem ‘real.’

Pleased as well that David Tennant smells
good, as I suspected! 😍

And Steve Coogan is my random crush…he makes me laugh like no other. Quite sweet to hear he’s a bit shy/awkward.

Has anyone met Seth Macfarlane? I adore him.

Some of the smaller bands who had had a little bit of success though - christ on a bike. Absolute arseholes who acted like they were the rolling stones. Wouldn’t take dark glasses off in a dark studio. Thought they were so cool and edgy to take drugs at 2pm while everyone else just rolled their eyes. Thought every woman there fancied them. Pricks.

Mansun? 😂

Tereseta · 13/03/2023 01:57

Chris Camara is a great guy, he's been a speaker at a couple of functions I've attended and took time to talk to everyone afterwards. So down to earth

Stepuptowardsinfinity · 13/03/2023 03:22

Penn and Teller - they hang around outside their shows for as long as it takes to speak to everyone who wants to meet them. Very nice people though Penn is a bit odd

Olivia Colman - entitled and a bully. She humiliated a close friend in public which was really uncalled for.

Alan Rickman - thoughtful and kind, just as you'd imagine.

Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee - so lovely. We got to a show of theirs early and they actually waved us over to come and say hello. Really nice people.

Notarealmum · 13/03/2023 03:30

bazzabas · 10/03/2023 12:24

I've actually heard this before.

When I met him (albeit rather long time ago now) he was very pleasant company.

I posted this pages ago, but here it is again, just for you….

Spent an evening at a table with Steve Coogan. Very nice, but a bit sort of awkward and unsure of himself. It was very endearing.

Incidentally- note to celebs. If you want top rating on MN, what you need to be, apparently, is ‘down to earth’. Whatever that entails.

always wore creepers to give himself an extra inch. regular in The Grove pub in Camberwell. found myself on a table in the same pub with Lorraine Chase (& her dogs) a few years ago. low-key & polite.

What does wearing creepers have to do with Lorraine Chase? 😂

Sue2704 · 13/03/2023 07:32

I used to own pub right next to theatre stage door. Met so many actors and musicians. David Essex, Julian Clary, gary Wilmott all lovely. Our favourite was Richard Briers. He had big new fan following as he had been Doctor Who baddie. He was being surrounded by fans, and we offered him a more private area. Darling, he said, at my age the more fuss the better. Only unpleasant person. Lesley Joseph. She was appearing in rep and just not very nice to staff for whole run.
