Nicest/not nice celebs.

1000 replies

bazzabas · 10/03/2023 11:58

Who is the nicest celeb you've met?

On the flip side who was not nice?

I had a friend who met Girl's Aloud after she won a competition.

They waited hours to met them, waiting for them to arrive.

Apparently Nadine was lovely, chatted and genuinely seemed interested to meet them.

Sarah & Nicola not so nice, very mardy and diva-ish.

But you haven't told us if they were nice or nasty!!

All lovely!!
I was Christmas shopping IN Poundland when I spoke to Dr Ranj and I'd just got the dinner out of the oven when I spoke to Sam West... I had a face the colour of a house brick so I must have looked a right site!! 🤣 🤣

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 11/03/2023 11:53

Barbara Windsor - miserable, face like a smacked arse. That iconic laugh was clearly for performance purposes only.

Wasn't she also a good friend of - and apologist for - the Krays?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 11/03/2023 11:54

All lovely!!

Ah, great to hear!!

SinnerBoy · 11/03/2023 11:59

I'm really disappointed to hear that Sandi Toksvig seems to be a meanie; I've always really liked her.

Brucie didn't even try to hide his contempt for the public when he was on TV.

Friends of my auntie were on The Generation Game, in the early 80s and said he was absolutely horrible. He shouted at the contestants, mocked them, made them say and do things again. He bawled at the audience for not laughing enough / laughing at the wrong time.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 11/03/2023 12:06

I've seen mixed experiences recounted in similar MN threads about Michael McIntyre, but we went to see him in a studio theatre just before he broke through into the big-time and he wasn't yet that recognisable.

He noticed that there were two empty seats in a prominent position, and he commented in an OTT mock-affronted way that he'd been told the show was completely sold out.

He briefed the audience, borrowed the usherette's torch and then hid at the side, behind the curtain, with the lights down; then, when the late couple came in, he scampered over to them, pretending to be an usher, checked their tickets and directed them to their seats (not difficult to know which ones!), assured them that it was all fine and "I don't think anybody noticed that you were a bit late". He didn't even try to disguise his voice! Then he went up to the stage and resumed the show!

Not a hint of unkindness or ego about it at all, it was genuine good-natured 'let's all have a laugh together at the situation' rather than laughing AT anybody. It really did break the ice for everybody - the couple of latecomers were in stitches once they realised.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 11/03/2023 12:19

He bawled at the audience for not laughing enough / laughing at the wrong time.

He was obviously so arrogant that it never actually occurred to him that HE was the common denominator in thousands of people in countless audiences never ever getting his 'jokes'.

Not that he handled it nastily on that occasion, but I always remember when one of the contestants on Play Your Cards Right spectacularly 'owned' him and left him aghast. They would have a usually very easy question to 'qualify' the winning couple to get into the final round - normally something like 'name five things you would see in a kitchen', 'name five items of household furniture' etc.

On this occasion, he asked them to name (iirc) five of the largest ten inhabited islands of Fiji. Instead of almost pooping themselves, as he'd clearly hoped, the man instantly reeled them off and got them all right! Bruce just spluttered and said "Now's the part where I was supposed to say aren't you glad we don't have difficult questions like that on this show!"

Bepis · 11/03/2023 12:33

@A34 So jealous of your friend 😁.

What about Backstreet Boys members? Anyone met them?

I was a secretary for a time for a well known institution. I had to serve coffee to a morning meeting which included well known names. Everyone avoided eye contact and pretended I didn’t exist - except one person. Floella Benjamin caught my eye and gave me a warm smile. She said thank you for bringing in the coffee. She is a lovely kind person with immaculate manners.
How someone receives a cup of coffee speaks volumes.

Yes, Floella has been mentioned several times in other threads as being lovely.
She looks so youthful too

I met Robert Powell in a pub in London, he was the neighbour of the company owner I worked for, it was xmas and he was in good spirits said hi to everyone and was very chatty

Previously mentioned Chris Packham who I met aged 8 at a really wild show convention he was lovely as were Terry Nutkins and Michaela Strachan

I would love to meet Morgan Freeman, Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks, I'd be 🥰

I would probably do the sign of the cross and kneel if I saw Robert Powell. He was fantastic as Jesus in ‘Jesus of Nazareth’

I'm really disappointed to hear that Sandi Toksvig seems to be a meanie; I've always really liked her.

I spent 2.5 hours opposite her on a train

She was perfectly fine. Said hello/nodded to everyone when she sat down
Like everyone else she worked -heads down- throughout the journey
Was perfectly nice to the ticket collectors/catering staff. Brief but friendly. Smiled at all the right points

No-one disturbed her and she didnt disturb anyone else

Just like the other 10 people in the carriage
perfectly normal, perfectly nice

living in SW London we met a lot of celebs.

Hands down nicest is alesha Dixon …she’s amazing friendly, engaging and down to earth. I have been raving about her ever since.

my wife met Tom hardy with his little un and said he was super nice and friendly.

i bumped into stormzy and was desperate to strike up conversation but the vibe from him was friendly and chilled.

I haven’t really met any that were horrid.

Is she as beautiful in real life?

GardenGuardian · 11/03/2023 13:06

I met Charles & Camilla at an event quite a few years ago, they were both genuinely warm and interested in talking to us - he was shorter than I’d expected, and she was much better looking than the pictures the press generally printed at the time.

Also met Honor Blackman once, she was an absolute class act. Various sports people and tv actors, but nobody that immediately comes to my mind as either particularly lovely or awful.

Shufflebumnessie · 11/03/2023 13:06

@Crikeyalmighty he really was thoroughly vile. The police officers on duty had to intervene and escort him from the area.
Hopefully he didn't ruin your meal!

Hippobot · 11/03/2023 13:29

Ray Mears was really warm and smiley both times I met him. Happy to talk and compare notes about a specific tribe we had both spent time with. Also helped me with how to get hide that had shrunk off a quiver.

Janey Godley was incredibly kind and self deprecating. Really funny and personable.

Have you met his second wife, Ruth? I used to know her quite well, the same social circle and she's lovely. I haven't, but another couple we know have stayed over for parties and confirm that he's a lovely person.

Bob Geldof by comparison- 2 hours on a train
Total dick- telling people not to bother him- on-one was - everyone was working away

Yep. As is Morrissey. Both sent flowers to the funeral of one of them. As Stuart Maconie said: one of them predictably, the other disappointingly.

Harry Styles gave me the biggest, warmest hug when I bumped into him in the street not so long ago. It was lovely, he was so down to earth and friendly. He was with a family member and we weren’t in London or any big city. Nice to see him as a ‘normal’ lad not being followed by security or a string of fans.

You lucky, lucky thing!!!!! Even if I am old enough to be his mum

MaggieMagpie357 · 10/03/2023 12:07

Michael Palin is exactly how you'd expect him to be - warm, friendly and an all round lovely person.

Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen is also exactly how you'd expect - an arse. Also MUCH shorter than think he'd be.

how short? It says on google he is 5'11"

JMSA · 11/03/2023 14:32

A family friend has worked with Mila Kunis. Said she's horrid.

I confirm Jimmy was lovely when I met him. Of course he can be a nice person and even care deeply about the above serious issues and still joke about them.... People today have just lost the critical thinking skills to understand when a joke is a joke.

I totally agree hangingoninthere88
