Nicest/not nice celebs.

1000 replies

bazzabas · 10/03/2023 11:58

Who is the nicest celeb you've met?

On the flip side who was not nice?

I had a friend who met Girl's Aloud after she won a competition.

They waited hours to met them, waiting for them to arrive.

Apparently Nadine was lovely, chatted and genuinely seemed interested to meet them.

Sarah & Nicola not so nice, very mardy and diva-ish.

Heather Small from M people. Not nice at all

I saw her in concert years ago and where we were sitting could sort of see the bit where she kept going off to get drinks and get changed etc. She looked like she was not very nice to the back stage staff and I felt she had no interaction with crowd. Have heard she can be good in concert though.

Charles Kennedy bought me a pint once (when I was a student union officer). A really nice man, seemed genuinely interested in all of us. I was really quite sad when he died.

I sprayed Charles Kennedy with a Coke can that had been really shaken up (total accident but it went all over him). He was incredibly nice about it.

Jimmy Carr is NOT lovely. No-one who makes jokes about rape or disabled kids could possibly be lovely,

Agree! He made a sick joke about deaf children once... I've loathed him ever since!!

Anyone met the late Great Amy Winehouse? (another of my faves!)

My ex was friends with her just before she released back to black. Said sh was lovely, very funny but a bit of a pool shark and could drink him under the table. Never saw her again when she got huge.

SnowdayYay · 11/03/2023 07:52

@FetchezLaVache wow that is so amazing I just love stories like this.

UserTwentyMillion · 11/03/2023 08:09

NC for this!

Anthony Head is a neighbour of mine (houses pretty spread out). He’s much more handsome in real life and just a really nice man.

A good few years ago Hugh Grant asked a dancer friend of mine to bend over and show him her pussy. I cringe even typing that out. It doesn’t surprise me about the prostitute scandal.

I used to work with celebrities in the 2000’s and one of the nicest was Simon from the boy band Blue. Mark Owen was also a nice guy. None who have been truly awful, although Elton John was pretty rude and would regularly tell people to ‘fuck off’ if they tried to speak to him. P Diddy was as you’d expect. Christina Aguleira (Sp?) was a live wire, I remember her always throwing things and her band in jest and partying a lot. Ben Affleck was a complete sleaze and tried it on with lots of women while he was engaged to JLo.

AG247 · 11/03/2023 08:20

Can confirm, had drinks and dinner with him a few years ago. He was very much what you would imagine a ‘Hollywood star’ to be. Exceptionally friendly and polite but also totally disconnected from reality and it was almost as if he were wearing a mask/facade.

not as short IRL as everyone says, maybe wearing a stacked heel? I’m 5’6 for context and he seemed taller than me. Also there are certain words you are not allowed to use around him… if you do he pretends he didn’t hear it but you get a warning from his people…

midlifecrash · 11/03/2023 08:21

We were in a small place in Soho on a weekday afternoon, the only other customer was Bill Nighy having a coffee. On his way out members of staff asked him for photos and he posed with them all, he seemed really nice.

Does anyone have any Beatles stories?

My cousin knew Paul McCartney when she owned/ran a recording studio. He was always very lovely and down to earth.
He was recording when John Lennon was shot so it was very tough for them all…

I confirm Jimmy was lovely when I met him. Of course he can be a nice person and even care deeply about the above serious issues and still joke about them.... People today have just lost the critical thinking skills to understand when a joke is a joke.

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 11/03/2023 08:30

Sandy Toksvig - kind, thoughtful and happy to give of her time.
brian Cox (scientist)- interested in everyone and everything. Engaging and fun.

Gargantuaetpantagruel · 11/03/2023 09:40

@Wilkolampshade What an awful way to describe one of the Hairy bikers. I don't know which one you mean as I don't think either of them are "ugly"! Unlike your comment.

whoknowswhen · 11/03/2023 10:19

From self and/or friends:

Robbie Williams: chatty, friendly, generally a nice bloke, had time for people
Peter Kay: friendly, quiet
Rod Stewart: nice bloke, social and made time for people
Tom Fletcher: really lovely, spent time talking to children at their level (knelt down so could chat properly, etc)
Giovanna Fletcher: again lovely, but quieter than Tom (to be fair, it was his event not hers) but friendly and polite
Nick Banks (Pulp): friendly, down to earth
Rev Kate Bottley: very friendly and happy to chat
Paul Sinha (The Chase): funny, chatty
Rob Beckett: polite, friendly, a bit quieter than expected (I think a lot of comedians are IRL)
Josh Widdecombe: quiet, friendly
Dave Gorman: lovely
Jessica Ennis: friendly, fairly quiet, doesn't make a fuss//big thing of being recognised
Chris and Rosie Ramsey: lovely
John and Laura McClure (Reverend and the Makers): friendly, social, happy to join in with things, volunteer with helping out, etc)
Justin Fletcher: was friendly with the children but seemed very grumpy when out of shot - though weather was awful and it was outdoors so maybe cold/wet)
Tom Felton: seemed really nice though fairly quiet
Footballer who used to be a pundit on MOTD (can't remember name at the moment so a bit pointless to add, lol) - rude and impatient on a plane; in hindsight budget airline, cramped seats, plane was delayed and it was pretty late and he was appearing in TV early the next morning so possibly stressed too)

I do think some are a bit different when recognised when with their own family, especially their children. I would never approach a 'celeb' of they were clearly out with family and friends, minding their own business though and wouldn't expect them to be up for photographs/autographs/long chats in those situations. I also think in those situations you could expect reluctance and a want for privacy, which may make them appear more distant or stand-offish.

Does anyone have any Beatles stories?

Very much at several removes, but...

My daughter's friend's grandad was at school with John Lennon, the year below. Apparently, he was a total arse.

Pankiraj · 11/03/2023 10:48

Colleague worked with Peter Kay - very talented man but difficult.

Barbara Windsor lovely and a true professional very keen on good discipline on set. Turn up, know your lines, hit your marks.

By contrast James Corden seems to be quite difficult on set, and a bit of an eejit off it.

katseyes7 · 11/03/2023 10:59

I met Noel and Liam Gallagher several times (my ex had worked with them).
Liam was a total sweetheart, funny and generous, totally down to earth. Bought drinks for the entire bar, and cigs for an old man who was in there.
Noel.... it depended on the day. Fine sometimes, other times he seemed to have a very high opinion of himself.

I never met Morrissey, l can't say l'm a fan (either of the man or his music) but he was incredibly kind to a very close friend of mine when he was very ill. And not just a 'one off' thing, he was very supportive and kept in touch for a long time.

I met Nick Cave backstage at Glastonbury (again, via my ex) - he was lovely but l was totally starstruck, could barely speak. The man has an amazing charisma.

David and Angie Bowie back in the 70s, we met them in a restaurant in London. Someone l was in company with knew David and they invited us to have drinks with them. Both lovely, very sweet and funny. Angie was a hoot, so kind to me and my friend (we were teenagers at the time, she shared her lippy and perfume with us in the ladies) and David actually complimented me on my eyes.

Alexa51 · 11/03/2023 11:01

A friend worked as part of the production team for many of Justin Fletcher's shows. She said he was genuinely very pleasant to everyone.

hoping one is ‘teeny-weeny’

Mine above was in response to this

AG247 · 11/03/2023 11:20

Hahahaha one word begins with a G and has been a bit of a controversial issue for him in the media, historically

Shitsandwiches · 11/03/2023 11:34

Shane Ritchie shouted at me once. I was a temp in a PR agency and answered the phone to him. I couldn't quite make out what he was saying because he was chomping on what sounded like an apple as he spoke, and when I said 'sorry I didn't catch that' he literally blow-dried me through the phone. Massive twat.

Madonna - stand-offish (not that I addressed her directly) spoke down to her 3 assistants like they were morons. (plus had an entourage of about 10 makeup and hair artists with her) - she was on a book tour of her childrens book years ago, but wouldn't sign any copies for anyone.

Hugh Grant - charmer

Denise Van Outen - blank and humourless.

Barbara Windsor - miserable, face like a smacked arse. That iconic laugh was clearly for performance purposes only.

Cilla and Bobby Black, came into an opticians I was in once, and they were really friendly to the staff. Cilla looked happy I remember. Must have been a good day for her!

Reece Shearsmith - hmm, a bit petulant, precious and up himself I thought. I've met him twice, so possibly 2 off days?

Noel Gallagher - HORRIBLE. Arrogant, rude. Just bleurgh. I do love some oasis songs though.

Kelly Brook - bubbly, fun and engaging on a photoshoot. I liked her.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 11/03/2023 11:40

preston from ordinary boys came into my work, we had a 10 min chat about football, he’s pretty chill...

In one way, it's a shame for him that the one thing that sticks in people's minds is when he stormed out of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, because he was portrayed as rude, angry and a real arse; but in the context of what Simon Amstell was saying, sneering and mocking his girlfriend, it was actually quite a demonstration of a nice and honourable character trait, standing up for her. Simon always had the way of disguising bullying as 'friendly bantz'.

Brucie didn't even try to hide his contempt for the public when he was on TV. His full surname was Forsyth-Johnson and I'll never forget the time when a woman was called down on The Price Is Right and it turned out her surname was Johnson as well. Brucie made some apparently-good-humour-but-actually-unpleasant belittling comment to her, saying "I'm a Johnson too" (no comment Grin) "....But we had money". That and his treatment of female contestants: inappropriately touching the younger ones and painting the older ones as stupid mad old grannies.

I wonder if he was always resentful that he'd started out at a young age as a top-flight, talented variety entertainer, but ended up just known as a gameshow host - it was entirely his choice to do that, though. Bob Monkhouse quite cheerfully embraced the two strings to his showbiz bow.

Anna Windass off Coronation St used to click her fingers at us as well when she wanted assistance

Dreadful behaviour - but imagine having to go through life (let alone in a high-profile job) with that surname?! Maybe getting in there first is her standard defence mechanism before people make the same old but still perpetually hilarious jokes?!

That's an amazing story about Ringo - what a truly lovely thing to do. I know he's had criticism for his 'leave me alone now, peace and love' comments, but I think he's just being honest with his fans about where he is in life and how he wants a bit of time to himself, out of the public eye. He's an old man now and he just does not have anything like enough time (or probably energy) left to respond to everybody who would want a piece of him (in a nice way!), so I think a clear but polite publicised withdrawal is actually the mark of a kind person who doesn't want to upset his fans who may have unrealistic expectations.

ooh ooh what are the words?
hoping one is ‘teeny-weeny’

That's probably one of them - along with 'pint-sized', 'fun-sized', 'shortarse' etc.!!
Also probably 'Scientology', 'David Miscavige' and the names of his former wives and lovers. To be fair, probably also 'Suri' - it's not her fault what her background is and she has every right to have her privacy protected.

Ds2 is at Crufts and I've just chatted to Victoria Stillwell via videocall... Ds2 is going to teach her how to sign Dog!
Also via videocall I've spoken to Dr Ranj... Samuel West, Justin Fletcher, Phil Spencer. Hayley Mills, Rula Lenska and Martin Freeman. He taught Phil how to sign House and Martin how to sign Film. He also recently met Olivia Coleman, Sam Mendes and Toby Jones at a film premiere!

But you haven't told us if they were nice or nasty!!

Shitsandwiches · 11/03/2023 11:49

oh yeah, forgot Sandi Toksvig - I saw her once in Soho. She was waiting to cross the road with someone, I'm assuming it was an assistant, because Sandi was literally hopping up and down and shouting at this poor girl about everything that was wrong with the world. The girl was quiet and looked ashamed. I thought, what a horrible tantrum throwing bag of a woman!
