Nicest/not nice celebs.

1000 replies

bazzabas · 10/03/2023 11:58

Who is the nicest celeb you've met?

On the flip side who was not nice?

I had a friend who met Girl's Aloud after she won a competition.

They waited hours to met them, waiting for them to arrive.

Apparently Nadine was lovely, chatted and genuinely seemed interested to meet them.

Sarah & Nicola not so nice, very mardy and diva-ish.

Who the fuck is Anne Cleves?

A wonderful writer, Vera, Shetland being two of the better known series.

I meet quite a few celebs through work, most are absolutely lovely. I won’t name too many as it would be outing to anyone who knows me but Phil Spencer, AJ Odudu, Rylan and JLS stand out in my mind as being particularly nice and down to earth.

I'm glad Rylan is nice.

David Walliams is very unpleasant unless you are famous.

Not surprised

America12 · 10/03/2023 20:57

Hoppinggreen · 10/03/2023 13:19

Gregg Wallace is a complete Dick

Again , not surprised

I have known one of the ‘not nice’ people listed since they were a baby. They are naturally shy and struggle with being recognised. Any of us can have an off day or not show our best side in public. Some people are arses too, but my point is that most of us don’t really know these celebs and they struggle with the same things as the rest of us.

But if you choose a career that will put you in the public eye and your fans pay your wages ?? Maybe not the best idea if you're shy ?

Giggorata · 10/03/2023 21:00

My son met Noel Fielding on Oxford Street, at the height of the Boosh fame. He was quite drunk (my son, I mean) and he was gushing about how much he liked the show, shaking Noel's hand for ages all the while. Noel was very nice about it and thanked him!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/03/2023 21:03

Charles Kennedy bought me a pint once (when I was a student union officer). A really nice man, seemed genuinely interested in all of us. I was really quite sad when he died.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/03/2023 21:08

@OffToThatPlace ah- I totally forgot to add Brian ferry to my Morrissey and boy George list of known within the industry as up their backside wazzocks-

I can confirm Brian May is a thoroughly lovely person-

concernedalot · 10/03/2023 21:08

Michelle Collins smiled at me in a nightclub when she was doing some sort of appearance but can't really comment more

Claire Sweeney (from Brookside) asked me for directions in my home town and seemed nice enough (but then you would be wouldn't you, if you needed directions).

Hard to guage some of these personalities through brief interactions with them really, but I suppose if enough people collectively say stuff then that's where there might be some truth in it..

SnowdayYay · 10/03/2023 21:08

@12FreeRangeEggs that's so so lovely.

Did you ever let him know since?

Are you sure it was Robbie Coltrane you met? He was over 6ft! Unless you were expecting him to be Hagrid sized?

Could @SinnerBoy be thinking of Robert Carlyle? He was tiny - and absolutely lovely! He "Robbie". went by "Robbie"

I don't have much to add.

Mark Watson, the comedian is an absolute gem.
Second hand - a friend was on the voice and said Ricky Wilson was great. Interacted with all the acts, not just his own. She also had really good things to say about Will-i-am.
An acquaintance works in television - doesn't like working with Rochelle Hume and her husband, as the days are always very long and slow (long breaks throughout the day), but says working with Richard Osman is great, he just wants to get the job done, so they get more done in a shorter day.

I second Mark Watson. He asked the lighting crew to put the lights back on and personally escorted me to my seat when I got a bit lost at the start of his gig. Most comedians would have used it as an opportunity to take the piss or make a joke, but he was really helpful and pleasant.
I went to see Ricky Gervais once and someone from the venue went round all of the audience and told them that Mr. Gervais doesn't like people coming in and out during his performance so if you want a drink or you need the loo you had to go before he came on stage.

George Best was lovely. Very very shy and quiet and seemed almost embarrassed (I was working in a bookshop and he was signing his autobiography)

I think Andy Murray is nice. I don't like the fist pumping and shouting but I do like the story (which I hope is true) that when he was very little he saw a famous tennis star walk past some children who wanted autographs- not sure if he was one of them or just saw it) and apparently he swore then that he would never leave the tennis court while there were still children wanting his autograph. I always watch with bated breath going "Andy, you've missed one, second row"

The Jonathan Creek man, Alan Davies(?) is apparently awful. A friend of mine was somewhere and he was there and again, some children approached him and he bollocked their parent for allowing them to go near him.

Everybody loved George.

He crossed the (backward) divide in Northern Ireland (especially significant during the troubles) and was adored by both communities.

He was the first real celebrity footballer in the UK and Ireland (Beckham before Beckham) but would hang out with anyone... which given his alcoholism wasn’t ideal for him as everyone would buy George a drink.

Violethayes · 10/03/2023 21:13

Claes (Dracula)Bang after a play. Was expecting smooth and debonair but he was excitable like a little boy and massive

user12345678912334 · 10/03/2023 21:13

@CrotchetyQuaver David Essex: I had exactly the same experience!
I was staring at him through the car window, thinking it can't be! Then he twinkled at me and gave a small wave. A long time ago but I'm still delighted.

tedgran · 10/03/2023 21:15

Was on the sane table as Sarah Lancashire at a charity do, lovely woman.

Mamai90 · 10/03/2023 21:16

Eamonn Holmes was at a christening I attended, he was a miserable sod. It was a fairly small do and he was so arrogant. It was supposed to be a happy occasion but he didn't smile once, at anyone, not even the baby!

Jenasaurus · 10/03/2023 21:17

Michael Barrymore was lovely, very friendly and nice, Shane Ritchie was very rude and full of self importance. I met Michael recently, but Shane was a while ago when I worked at Gatwick

WingingIt101 · 10/03/2023 21:17

I met Ed Sheeran in an airport lounge. He was bloody lovely. So friendly and chatted to us for about twenty minutes before offering to take a selfie. He even took the picture for us!

Gilead · 10/03/2023 21:17

When you’re 18 and helping out in a friends pub, George Best is not a sweetie.
Olly Reed was lovely as was James Hunt.
Also adore Jeremy Paxman, polite and friendly and not at all patronising to 17 year old disabled dd.
Claudio Sanchez from Coheed, lovely guy as were the rest of the band. Same goes for Limp Bizkit, Fred Durst, interesting, funny and kind. Likes to read New Scientist on the tour bus!
Tony Robinson, jumped up and extremely rude. Did the ‘do you know who I am’ bit in a facility that my son was managing.
A couple of weeks later, the then Prime Minister used the facility. He had made an appointment. He shook hands and thanked all the staff and according to ds was charming.

I'm not saying anything mean. Just because someone died doesn't mean you can't say what actually happened.

Have you not heard of never speaking ill of the dead?

Lsmummy1 · 10/03/2023 21:25

Met him in a pub once and yes very friendly and he was happy to chat for ten or so minutes! Seemed (or did a good job of pretending 😂) to be interested in what I was saying!

Anyone met Steve Pemberton ( League of Gents, Inside No9 and a million-ty other things including Happy Valley Series 1 and Whitechapel) and tell me he's lovely IRL but if he's an arse (which I hope he isn't ) just say "he's , erm.... distant "

Shane Warne.
After Aus had just lost at Edgbaston.
Stayed outside and signed for hours for every person waiting.
Particularly the kids, because 'these are the guys and girls that are going to be taking over'.
Class act.
