Hi,

As the title says.. Blush
I woke up this morning with a horrible pain down below. Went to the bathroom and I've noticed a large cyst (??) down below. I'm so sorry it's cringey and probably quite graphic to explain..

It's on my inner labia, and is probably the size of a 50p coin. I don't know what to do! It hurts to touch and when I go to the toilet and knock it whilst wiping its like a searing pain. I want to pop it as it feels solid / 'full' but I don't know how, or if it's safe..

Has anybody experienced this before?! Blush

Hot compresses, loose cotton clothing and hot sitz baths are the best approach here. Apply heat/ hot compresses as often as you can throughout the day. If it doesn't go down/ drain naturally and you've been doing that for a few days I'd contact gp.

Sensible advice .

AnyaMarx · 08/03/2023 01:09

I ended up in emergency surgery for an infected bartholins cyst , I went straight to a&e when the pain became unbearable I couldn't sit down.

I'd see the gp if it's painful

Rachie1973 · 08/03/2023 01:18

My poor daughter gets them, first one at 16 when 27 weeks pregnant.

Hospital drained it and added a word catheter to keep draining it.

i get these Bollickles from time to time. Inner labia, between either side of the skin. Hurts like hell.

I usually have hot baths with Epsom salts until it drains. There was one golf ball size one which hurt even if I went anywhere near it. Next time I get one I’m going to see my GP.

@nunsflipflop yep that's the one. Started age 11 for me and diagnosed a couple of years later

Took 15 years to diagnose me. In that time I saw various Drs including being referred to the sexual health clinic! It was a vulval dermatologist that diagnosed me. Took one look and knew instantly.

JustKeepGoingThere · 08/03/2023 01:52

I had mine drained in the hospital. It was very quick.

wingingit1987 · 08/03/2023 02:41

My sister had issues with a Bartholins cyst and ultimately needed surgery- so please go get it checked out ASAP.

diamondsandpearl · 08/03/2023 07:48

Thanks everyone. Went to sleep with a hot compress last night, still the same size this morning so at least it's not grown. Still very painful though.

I'm going to call the GP this morning for advice!

Yes, do ring GP. My Mum's burst just before she saw her GP, he said she still needed antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon. I don't envy you tge walk or journey.

SpottyLip · 08/03/2023 18:46

How's your flue now @diamondsandpearl ? (Sorry Blush)
Were you able to speak to GP?

drinkingcream · 08/03/2023 20:07

OP go to GP!! I've had them and was treated with antibiotics

Eliza121 · 08/03/2023 20:12

Did you call the doctors? I'm invested now Smile

knittingaddict · 08/03/2023 20:47

A hot salty bath worked for me. Second time I needed a minor op and that has prevented reoccurrence. That was 30 years ago.

knittingaddict · 08/03/2023 20:49

When I saw the gp they sent me straight to hospital for the op. No idea if that kind of service is available in this day and age

knittingaddict · 08/03/2023 20:53

imperialqueen · 07/03/2023 23:49

I had this constantly in my 20's (not sure why that decade of my life). It was ingrown hairs from hair removal. Magnesium sulphate in a compress works great, though did end up getting antibiotics from my gp a few times for them.

This isn't what op has. Bartholin cysts are a horror all of their own and completely unrelated to hair removal.

Crazycrazylady · 08/03/2023 21:08

I get these a lot and always treat them myself. I use a hot compress as hot as I can before bed and in the morning give them a quick jab with a sterile needle( can be awkward to reach) . Yellow pus followed by blood and the relief is just instant .

I am clearly not a doctor 👩‍⚕️

MoreSleepPleasee · 08/03/2023 21:29

I've had what I was told was a bartholins cyst for about 15 years and never had any issues, just a lump down there. Hope all is OK op.

imperialqueen · 08/03/2023 22:30

knittingaddict - you don't know what op has as she hasn't been to a doctor or dermatologist.

imperialqueen · 08/03/2023 22:33

knittingaddict, op has asked for other people's experiences and I have given her mine. Exactly what she asked for. I was in a lot of pain with it and it was always the same size as op describes.

purplerainlondon · 08/03/2023 22:37

I've had a few of them and always just pop them- very painful but they then resolve themselves!

JFDIYOLO · 08/03/2023 23:44

I had never heard of this... Now just one more sodding bastarding thing to fear ..

GarfieldAteTheLasagne · 10/03/2023 22:33

Op how are you getting on. I have hidradenitis suppurativa and am having a particularly bad flare up, I have 4 of the angry buggers all in a row. Just begged for antibiotics today because I've ended up in hospital with these before.

Really hoping yours has righted itself and it's well on its way down. 🤞
