Large cyst, down there.. sorry it's graphic! Don't know what to do.

Hi,

As the title says.. Blush
I woke up this morning with a horrible pain down below. Went to the bathroom and I've noticed a large cyst (??) down below. I'm so sorry it's cringey and probably quite graphic to explain..

It's on my inner labia, and is probably the size of a 50p coin. I don't know what to do! It hurts to touch and when I go to the toilet and knock it whilst wiping its like a searing pain. I want to pop it as it feels solid / 'full' but I don't know how, or if it's safe..

Has anybody experienced this before?! Blush

Pretty sure it's growing by the minute! ConfusedSad

It will do. Bastard things.

Silica capsules help to bring it down.

Nonimai · 07/03/2023 22:07

i used to have these regularly. Hot water with Epsom salts on a flannel. As hot as you can stand . Don’t squeeze it. Mine always drained, didn’t burst. If it is infected there will be smelly puss, if not just blood and a clear fluid. I used to get 4 or 5 a year lasting 3-7 days. I was told they would go with menopause.

M08my · 07/03/2023 22:12

I've had this before but it was small and, because it kept being chafed by underwear, I needed a steroid cream as the skin was so damaged. The steroid cream was like a miracle cure though.

If it really is a 50p size, I'd call 111 and see if they can get you into urgent care. That sounds really big, way bigger than a DIY hot compress "just let it burst by itself" jobbie

Mine was about the size of a large pea. The gp took a look and I had steroid cream the same day, it worked a miracle and I was OK within two more days.

If you have a gp with a walk-in morning, you could do that

SeenYourArse · 07/03/2023 22:19

These replies are hilarious 😂 I get them a few times a year and I’ve never even considered going to a GP! I just put up with them and they eventually burst on their own 🤷‍♀️ yes super painful but nothing serious AT ALL mine get to the size of a quails egg usually before they burst occasionally I burst them myself which whilst sore it’s momentary then they heal.

It's a pleasure pain thing isn't it, once you get it to pop the relief is fantastic.

Legobla123 · 07/03/2023 22:31

I have had this recently exactly the same I showed my best friend and she was like pop it I insisted it can't be popped, however after sitting in the bath for an hour I squeezed as hard as I could and it drained out.

Finallyfree41 · 07/03/2023 22:36

I’ve had a few but every single time I’ve been pregnant. No idea why.

Fromwetome · 07/03/2023 22:38

@SeenYourArse you are lucky and your experience doesn't account for anyone but yourself, so laughing at the comments might make you feel proud of yourself but these cysts can actually be serious and make women unwell, especially if it turns to infection and the area becomes septic

@SeenYourArse or anyone who says when you say you burst them yourself - how do you do it?

Can you talk me though it please step by step as if for an idiot? Do you just use your fingers? Where do you press? one place on the side (Single point of pressure) or move around? Or from the "back" towards the bartholin gland hole?

Actually onto the cyst itself (at the top/middle or bottom) or kind of underneath and push upwards?

Do you take pain killers for the bursting?

You showed your friend? ShockShockShock

i had one similar recently @diamondsandpearl . Advice from Sporner's Corner was compresses and hot bath with Epsom salts. It's gone down of its own accord (squeezing it was too painful), over the course of 4 or 5 days.

If yours is the same size or bigger in the morning I'd recommend a call to your GP.

JetBlackSteed · 07/03/2023 22:45

They don't disappear after meno. Voice of bitter experience.
I can echo previous advice here, hot bath, flannel as hot as you can stand. It will either burst or drain itself.
oh, and nurofen is better than paracetamol imo as it helps reduce the swelling.

Happysalley · 07/03/2023 22:51

Where exactly do they appear? I had a small, painful lump inbetween large and small labia (vestibule?). Thankfully it buggered off by itself. Hope you get some relief soon op 💐

“Hahaha, you’re all pathetic for going to see a doctor about something incredibly painful that can lead to infection and make you very unwell. Clearly I am vastly superior to all of you for, fortunately, having never been in that situation myself”
Is this how you wanted to come across??

Danikm151 · 07/03/2023 22:56

Hot compress can help ease the pain. If it continues for more than a few days then see about antibiotics

Skipsaway · 07/03/2023 23:00

I've had a fair few bartholin cysts. Some treated with antibiotics, and some under GA if I didn't catch them in time.
I literally couldn't walk and passed out in pain at the last couple so not a chance you should be trying to burst them yourself due to infection risk.
Hop you get sorted soon and feel better

LemonSwan · 07/03/2023 23:03

I’m a big fan of the aloe method. But do make sure you slice the spikes off the plant first. Then open it like it’s a jelly plaster and stick it on somehow.

I will warn when you wake up and everything down below is neon sticky purple don’t panic. That was one embarrassing a and e trip 🤣🤣🤣 but even the nurse was impressed and asked what I had done. Apparently a better job than they could have done medically 🤷‍♀️ who knows - not a doctor but it worked for me and never came back.

Novatherova · 07/03/2023 23:03

I get them all the time but mine are ingrown hairs from my bikini wax.

I just pop mine and attack with tweezers. How I've not had any infections I don't know. I've even gone after them when there isn't any head.

Could it be that? My ones range in size right upto 50p size

Rebel2 · 07/03/2023 23:03

I get them monthly if not more anywhere from ears to groin to armpit. FUN Confused
Hot baths, compresses, painkillers
I go to the GP if they're bigger than golf ball size, the redness is spreading or I feel unwell
They don't tend to like doing incision and drainage as usually needs to be done under GA (you can't numb infection)

Skin surface cysts or abscesses are completely different to barthloms cyst, and bad advice there sorry.

40goingon30 · 07/03/2023 23:04

I've had one of these for 12 years now. It's about the size of a 5p I suppose, I've never thought about popping it and it's never popped on its own.
I don't like the appearance so now I'm wondering as so many of you pop yours, I should 🤔
On the odd occasion it causes a little irritation but nothing major.
I would get it checked though if it's as big as a 50p!

Same. Deep breath and squeeze.

luckily you only get bartholins cysts at the entrance to your vagina, it’s where secretions usually come out. If you’ve got multiple vaginas all over your body i hope you’re making huge billions amounts of money in specialist porn

I have had one every few years for about a decade. I try to alternate between hot baths with Epsom salts and hot compress using a fresh facecloth. Lots of ibuprofen just to get through the day as it’s sore to sit, pee, exercise etc.

After about 2 days I get in a hot bath, pinch either side of the offending cyst and squeeze. I have been know to use a magnifying mirror to try and find the obvious escape route for popping 😳. I repeat twice a day until completely clear. Out of the 5/6 I have had I required antibiotics for one.

ClaireEclair · 07/03/2023 23:06

I had one a few months ago. It was agony. Went to see the nurse and she asked me to take hot baths and it would eventually drain. It did indeed but it took a few days.
