“Going anywhere nice on your holidays?”

Inspired by my hairdresser, tell us your holiday plans for this year.

Is it Torquay to Thailand?

Are you more “swim up bar” or “sleep in my car”?

Do you come home looking Turkish, or more resembling a freshly plucked turkey? 🦃

It’s just hit 0 degrees outside. Put a spring in my step!

Nothing booked yet we had big holiday last year it was a belated birthday trip for me and Dh . So I think it will be a few weekends away and.maybe a week in the UK September after the schools go back.

Newtrix · 07/03/2023 20:52

We have a week a lodge on the Yorkshire Coast, another lodge for a week in the Lakes, a weekend in Northumberland and 3 nights in the Yorkshire Moors. Not a fan of heat or flying. Walks, exploring and good food is our type of holiday.

CalpolDependant · 07/03/2023 20:54

We’re off to Weymouth and Tenerife this year. Not at the same time obvs.

We are taking our 1 year old dd away for the first time in April. Going to Norfolk for a week. That will be it for this year unless we do a weekend away sept/Oct time

This question always makes me laugh. I always want to reply "No, we decided to book somewhere really horrible this year for a change."

OldTinHat · 07/03/2023 21:02

A what now? A holiday??? *scratches head in confusion!

Floralnomad · 07/03/2023 21:02

I like several short breaks usually in the uk or driveable as I prefer not to fly and no more than 3/4 days . As it is we’ve got nothing booked as my dog has been very ill and he prefers me to stay home

PillBoxes · 07/03/2023 21:05

There will be a trip to N Wales and Chester, then later to Provence doing the cities Arles, Nimes, Aix, Avignon - fly into and out of Marseilles. Using the SNCF train connections looks easy enough (famous last words!). Then Autumn in Estepona and Cadiz, then Brussels, Ghent, Bruges and the WW1 memorials at Menin and Paschendaele for Remembrance time. No trips during the school hols.

Before anyone thinks I am showing off, I am retired now, and at last have the time and the money so I am doing it while I can still walk and talk at the same time lol. Was not always like this but enjoyed myself no matter how near or cheap the place was.

I really enjoy these threads, might get some more ideas too.

Florida for a fortnight in May. I cannot wait!

slowsnow · 07/03/2023 21:10

Palma in may

bugsinmybrain · 07/03/2023 21:11

I always want to reply "no, somewhere shit"

Why would anyone book a holiday to somewhere they didn't think would be nice?

Even if it's butlins - people book bc they expect to enjoy it

Superstorefan123 · 07/03/2023 21:12

I had 4 days in the Lake District a couple of weeks ago. Soon to have 4 days on a narrowboat. I may have a few other short breaks over the year. I don't like leaving my cat for too long as even though someone comes in to feed her I can't afford to pay someone to stay whilst she plays out in the garden. She won't use a catflap.

SheepInFog · 07/03/2023 21:22

Yes! We've booked our first ever all-inclusive holiday in Greece. Have only ever done self-catering and villas but DSC are too old to be interested in coming on holiday with us - even if it's free, and want to do their own thing over Summer. Bit nervous about what to expect but looking forward to it.

lovemenomore · 07/03/2023 21:24

We are going away for a week in Fuerteventura this month as need some sun!

Then Thailand in July. Never been so we are very excited especially our 6yr old who learnt about Thailand at school last year.

Bikechic · 07/03/2023 21:26

Just booked a week in Brittany. Don't fancy Brittany ferries after bad experience on school trip so will be doing dover- Calais.

IceFair · 07/03/2023 21:29

Had a week in Lanzarote already.
Going to Filey, Yorkshire Dales and Majorca.
Nowhere nice though 😁

LittleBrownJug · 07/03/2023 21:29

Tenerife for an all-abusive with 4 yo DD around Easter. Bit trepidatious having read the recent thread that made the Daily Fail about Brits abroad, with particular reference to the Canaries. But it's just me & her, I need a kid's club, & no cooking or housework do I want to do! I tend to enjoy myself wherever I go, from a caravan park to 5* luxury, so I'll be reet.

Haven't been on holiday for years thanks to covid (actually that's a lie, that was a caravan park at Dymchurch, bloody great) & then this time last year I was diagnosed with stage IV cancer. The whole year was a write off. So I'm travelling this year while I can. Going to my parents the entire summer holidays (fingers crossed), they live in the southern US. Love it there.

Bucket list is Japan & South Korea but I'm totally brassic now from the above two, & honestly I just need a nice easy life now. I'll enjoy Japan through the medium of TikTok.

mondaytosunday · 07/03/2023 21:30

Maybe Spain in July after A levels. It will be our first flights since 2019. We have a house there. She has just been diagnosed with MS so depends on how she's coping with her treatment so not booking yet. Then USA for Christmas- my siblings live there and we used to go every other year (2019 last time) before covid. I stay with family and we go to Vermont for a weekend so my son can go skiing and there's guaranteed snow.

I know life with a 4 year old can be tough but an all-abusive sounds even tougher Grin

FrownedUpon · 07/03/2023 21:43

All-abusive sounds great 😂. We’ve booked a week in France & 2 separate weeks in Cornwall. A couple of UK weekends away planned as well.

Emilyjayne9421 · 07/03/2023 21:46

We’re going to Kos, Greece in June for a week. We went last summer and loved it so much we booked the same place. All inclusive, lovely sharing pool right outside our maisonette and a family friendly atmosphere. I can’t wait.

OnaBegonia · 07/03/2023 21:48

Off to Dublin this month, Lanzarote, Crete and a few U.K. weekends booked.
