All suggestions welcome.

The peseidon Adventure 1972 version and 2005

I used to have nightmares about the Poseidon Adventure (the original) - the bit where the woman falls out of the lift 😱 and the ending which I won't reveal for anyone who hasn't seen it - excellent film

Children of Men is another good call - very bleak but gets you thinking, from the brilliant book by P.D. James (one of my favourite authors).

What happened to Monday is sooo good

Mumoftwoboysaged4and5 · 07/03/2023 21:04

Another vote for Geostorm, such a fun film and Gerald Butler is good.

The Martian is good if you want a happy disaster film with a great soundtrack

Justforlaffs · 07/03/2023 21:05

I also recently watched Plane with Gerard Butler and really enjoyed it. First decent action film I've seen in a long time.

Was going to say The Impossible - already mentioned - true story from the boxing day tsunami.

TheMatriarchy · 07/03/2023 21:27

I love The Day after Tomorrow. Also love Pacific Rim, Avatar, District 9, Edge of Tomorrow, Dune, Mad Max Fury Road, The Road, A Quiet Place, Snowpiercer, Interstellar, Sunshine, Vesper. Dystopian sci fi/cli fi. There are some good anime films in the genre too like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

Sockbogies · 07/03/2023 21:35

The Happening.

I am completely rubbish at remembering names of films, so had to Google "film with wind blowing people dying".

CathyorClaire · 07/03/2023 21:37

Independence Day

The Impossible

Mad Max (originals only)

I Am Legend

The Road

World War Z

Dante's Peak

Deep Impact

Terminator franchise

28 Days Later

The Road

And (If you like comedy) This Is The End

You breathed the same air as Clive Owen? Jealous!!

Rollercoaster1920 · 08/03/2023 09:22

Flood on My 5 was mentioned earlier. Whilst worth a watch it's very TV movie level. However do read the book, it is so much better. I can't stand at the platform barriers on the jubilee line without thinking about it!

BibbleandSqwauk · 08/03/2023 10:14

I know...we were in the front row. The funniest thing was watching the photographer's realise we were noone interesting and ignore us 🤣
I agree re the Flood. Good cast but the director should be shot..lots of attempts to raise the tension with "edgy" freeze frames. Also small early role for Tom Hardy in that. Watched a v crap one on Prime last night called Meteor Strike.

Custardbanana · 07/03/2023 20:45

Children of Men. Not quite Hollywood disaster but still end of the world type situation.

That movie was scary

Diorinthecountry · 08/03/2023 22:30
Episode 19 News GIF by The Simpsons

But the Chris Evans version is better

SunshineAndFizz · 10/03/2023 03:14

Everest.

Love a disaster/survival movie, especially if it's based on a true story. The one about the Thai boys stuck in cave is brill too (on Prime).

violetglow7 · 10/03/2023 03:16

A knock at the Cabin

Throwncrumbs · 10/03/2023 04:10

Shunkleisshiny · 06/03/2023 14:22

The Wave on Prime, it's subtitled (Norwegian) but such a good disaster movie.

I thought this was really good!

Throwncrumbs · 10/03/2023 05:50

FourTeaFallOut · 06/03/2023 14:30

Second this, it's amazing.

The Quake is the sequel to The Wave…very unlucky family!
